Tribute to Daisy: Making Sense of Saying Goodbye

Colorado Tripod Daisy DogTwo weeks ago as I was leaving New Mexico, my pawrents and I started traveling north to meet my Tripawd friend Daisy. We’d never met in person, but we were being treated by the same oncologist in Santa Fe. We had already missed meeting each other at the clinic by one day, so now we were finally going to get to play.

Sadly, we crossed paths one more time, but still didn’t get to meet. At the exact time were traveling northbound toward Antonito, where we would meet up with Daisy in a couple of days, Daisy and her parents were traveling south, on the same road. Only it was a very sad trip for them. See, the cancer had recently gotten the best of Daisy, and her health was rapidly deteriorating. Her Mom, LeeAnn, had to make the difficult decision to help Daisy across the rainbow bridge. She and Daisy were driving to the vet’s office at the same time, on the same road, that we were on.

My Visit From Spirit Dog

Looking for Spirit DogBefore my recent appointment in Santa Fe, we camped out overnight in the parking lot of Rancho de las Golandrinas.

My people checked out the vast living history museum during the day while I gladly rested in the rig. This was just fine with me really, considering I didn’t care for the canon fire from the civil war reenactment going on!

But we did meet some new friends who worked there and arranged for us to stay overnight. And that evening, we were visited by Spirit Dog.

Are we not dog?

Canine Cancer survivor Jerry attacks each day with pep!Ever since Jim heard the Big Dog talk about his daily mantra for Malcolm, he’s been thinking up one to keep my tail wagging every day.

After Malcolm’s osteosarcoma metastasized, Luke would wake him every morning with a resounding “we will never give up” … and now, Jim has proven his age by adapting some of his favorite Devo lyrics:

We shall attack this day with vigor vim vitality and punch!

And as they say … you know that’s pep! But I just tell him, Duh. That’s how we dogs greet everyday anyway. Does this look like I’m about to let a little thing like cancer let me down?

Dog Dreams and the Big Bad Wolf

My girlfriend in Israel sent me a St. Patrick’s Day greeting. She is so sweet. It featured us on a beautiful, dreamy beach. As in her dreams. Like I said. Isn’t she sweet? And cute too. But she’s a bit far away, unfortunately. And I must have been in everyone’s dreams lately. I’m always chasing rabbits while I sleep with … Read more.

Time for a Reality Check

Dr. Mazzi listens to Jerry's lungsI went to the County Line Animal Hospital in La Habra today for a refill on my heartworm medicine since we’ll be on the road and off the beaten path for at least the next six months. While we were there, the nice vet convinced my people to get some x-rays of my chest.

Jim and René have always said they would rather not know if my osteosarcoma had returned or metastasized in my lungs. They believed I would let them know if the cancer came back if and when the time came. But the doctor recommended x-rays because he believes “it is better to know than to not know” … so, they agreed and I went through with it for them.

Notice anything different lately?

Bored Jerry Destroys Gift from LallaJim just spent a whole lot of time in front of his computer, when I wish he would have been playing with me!

But we heard from some people about how this site had certain layout issues. Issues, never problems, as I like to say!

So I sat by while Jim worked away, knowing that it was for the good tripawd lovers everywhere.
