Ever since Jim heard the Big Dog talk about his daily mantra for Malcolm, he’s been thinking up one to keep my tail wagging every day.
After Malcolm’s osteosarcoma metastasized, Luke would wake him every morning with a resounding “we will never give up” … and now, Jim has proven his age by adapting some of his favorite Devo lyrics:
We shall attack this day with vigor vim vitality and punch!
And as they say … you know that’s pep! But I just tell him, Duh. That’s how we dogs greet everyday anyway. Does this look like I’m about to let a little thing like cancer let me down?
Devo – That’s Pep!
Freedom of Choice (1980)
Vigor vim vitality and punch
The ability to act on a sudden hunch
Nerve to tackle the hardest thing
Feet that climb and hands that cling
A heart that never forgets to sing
That’s pep
That’s pep
That’s pep
Sand and grit in a concrete base
A friendly smile on an honest face
A spirit that helps when another’s down
Knows how to scatter the blackest frown
Love’s it’s neighbor love’s it’s town
That’s pep
That’s pep
That’s pep
That’s pep
Say “i will” for you know you can
Look for the best in every man
Meet each thundering knockout blow
Come back with a smile ’cause you know
You get the best of the whole damn show
That’s pep
That’s pep
That’s pep
That’s pep
That’s pep
That’s pep
You know that’s pep
how cool is that…maybe I should have it printed, all of it, on a tshirt
