Thanks so much for posting that photo. It really makes me feel hopeful about my dog, Nosey's future.

So Brody is at the vet today. He laid around all morning until I took the kids to school, then he did get up and go outside. I made him chicken and rice and he ate most of it. When I asked "wanna go on a car ride" he perked right up and came to me very excited. I wasnt sure how getting him in my truck was going to be but I was able to pick him up at which time he tried on his on the rest of the way so all was good! He doesn't get very comfortable back there even thought there is plenty of room for him to lay down. He chooses to 1/2 sit 1/2 lay and pant. Once we go there he was good. Normally he gladly goes with the tech but today she had to pull him a bit. Poor guy probably afraid he's gonna leave with one less leg :-( . Anyway, that was about 915am. I told them I need to pick up by 230 because they kids off and we have sports and they said ok. But just got a call and they said Dr would like to keep longer and just supervise and monitor him. So now I will get anytime after 6pm. I hope he's ok! He's probably sleeping which is what he does best. I think he is overall doing great, I just don't think he has much energy. He gets tired easily. For instance, this morning I didn't open the door right away and he laid right in front of it on the patio. He got right up when I opened it but he would normally not do that so quickly. I gave him some pepcid last night because his poo was a little runny, which I think is from all the human food. I need to get him back on his dog food. I am going to go to the store and get some wet science diet to mix with the dry. He likes that.

Katy - no, the upstair steps aren't carpeted. Hardwood, so that is scary! The basement are but he never does down there. If I did want to give him a shower I'd have to lift him in the tub, whereas the upstairs bathroom he could just hop into.

Nosey - you're welcome! I love that picture.. You will be doing that in no time too. When was your amp?

I will keep you updated when I hear back from the vet. Julie :-)

Well everything sounds like its on the up and up!  I hear ya about them not liking to go to the vet now.....Jill never had a problem with going to the vet before her surgery, after surgery however, she started to catch on that the last time she went she lost a limb.  She never ran when she saw me take the case out and now she does.  It sucks, but maybe as he gets more comfortable again going to the vet, he'll get used to it again.

Keep us posted on what the vet says!!

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Okay.....I just have a "feeling" it's not so much the vet wants to keep him for more "observation" as it is she's not able to check him over 'til later.....just saying! Glad he's eatkng and showing lot of alertness when Brody deems it "appropriate"!

We'll look forward to your update tonigt Keep staying empowered and strng! You are doing a really, really good job!! Brody's lucky to have such a great mom!

Hugs))))))))))))

Sally you are 100% correct. She is busy. I feel bad that he's been there all day but at the same time I am glad she wanted to bring him in to check him out. He is probably sleeping which is what he'd be doing here anyway. They have him in a sweet and I took his blanket so he should be quite comfy! Plus, they are taking staples out so I wont have to go there on Monday! The weather is beautiful so Im hoping that if the staples come out, he feels more comfortable and is off exercise restrictions we could have a good weekend outside!!!

Jill, he was good when we were sitting there waiting, although I did notice he was right up against me asking for belly rubs and didn't leave my side which normally is all over trying to sniff the place out.

I went to petsmart today and got him a few goodies. Im excited! I got a really comfy harness for walks and some new real raw chicken tips as well as his wet science diet. The lady was really nice and suggested the raw food. Anxious to mix with his dry food to see if hell eat...

Ill keep you updated! Thanks, Julie :-)

He'll have a lovely (re)home coming!  I'm sure he'll get a great report today.  Enjoy all that freedom without staples holding him back.  YEY!
~ K&J

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

I just called the vet. They said he was very good today. He is sleeping now but every time they came around or took him outside he was happy and wagging his "nub!" She said they did take his staples out which is good. Do you think I'll see a difference since they are removed? I can't wait to pick him up! Yes, he is going to have a great re(home) coming. I just hope he's happy with his main course, it's no steak or chicken!

Till later, Julie :-)

I don't know if it's the same for every animal, but I saw an enormous difference once Jill's stitches came out.  She was so much more comfortable!!  Let us know how it goes!!!!!

We're home.... Brody is good. His stitches are out and he's happy to be home. I made him a big bowl of dry dog food mixed with a 1/2 can of wet and he woofed it down. That wasn't so hard afterall. So now he's got a full belly and is laying under the kitchen table. He is allowed to take walks now, so I'm excited to try this with his new comfy harness I bought today. How long should I walk him for? I don't want to overdue him.

Erica - I hope you're right... I'd love for him to be his playful self again. I did push the cushions up on the couch so he can lay there if he's like. We'll see if he tries. My husband said that he looked comfy laying partially on one of the cushions that were on the floor. Maybe I can move 2 down to floor and he can lay on those and get comfortable moving around and adjusting himself on them.

Off to put kiddos to bed. They went to fall ball tonight and had a blast dressed in their costumes. My son is a ninjia and my daughter is bat girl and I was her robin!!!

Nite, Julie :-)

And you need to dress up as SUPER WOMAN!! Good job mom! You've been a busy gitl today!!

So, I assume the vet found nothing to be concerned about and feels he's having a normal recovery?

Happ Hannah was one of those who did NOT show a big difference when ner stitches were out! I only share that with you just in case you don't see a big difference in Brody, o,ay? In fact, it was about a day or so later that I actually added a dose of pain meds back i to the mix per the suggestion of someone here. That DID make a noticeale difference. And by the end of the third week she was really starting to get ner sparkle back consistently. Yep, every dob is differeng!

Keep the walks short at first....build up slowly. Remember, you always have to turn around and coe back the same amou t of time! Five minutes plus several times a day.....then upit bit by vit. Some dogs regulate their own energy level and just flat out sit down every few minutes at first......rest....then proceed. You really cannot go wrong....inless ne takes off and tries to run a ile or so.....that won't be good for him!

Reallh glad ne ate a great eal tonight! Major surgerytakes a while to build his energy back up, but being well-fed he.pse speed up the process.

BRODY'S HOME AND HAS A FULL BELLY AND SOFA CUSHIO S TO SLEEP ON!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAY BRODY!

Look forward to your next update!

Hugs.....big wrap around you and Brody...hugs!

SOOOOO... Today is a FABULOUS day! The sun is shining, the wind is blowing and Brody is HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!

When I came downstairs this morning I asked him if he wanted to go out. I know he needs to go out but as usual he just looked at me. I got 2 pieces of cheese to bribe him but it didn't work. I eventually had to gently pull/push him out. He just doesn't initially like to go out but once he's out there he goes along and does his business.  I gave this the cheese of course just for getting outside. I fixed him a bowl of dry and wet and he woofed it down. Back the rug and resting he went.

Then the kids had a birhtday party to go today outside at the local park/fields. They are off school today so it was perfect. There were tons of kids running around, riding bikes and scooters , playing kickball, soccer. I decided to go get Brody and let him enjoy the day with us! Boy was he excited 1) car ride 2) attention 3) walk!!! I walked around the field with him. Then I took off his lease and he took off - I think he was sooo excited to see all the kids playing kickball he wanted to join him. He was on the field with them. I quickly caught up and brought him back to the outfield. It was great, I sooooo wish I had my video camera out, it would have been so great to share with you! So we stayed there for about 30 minutes. He drank water, walked around, got attention (and a hotdog) and I brought him back home.

Did I also mention that he enjoyed laying outside today on his blanket? That' my Brody boy!

BTW - the harness was to big, I guess I need a medium instead of large.

Have a great day! I know I am...

Love, Julie :-)
