It’s been said that dogs are the most forgiving creatures on the planet. Wolfie just proved it, again. Today’s Tripawd Tuesday story will leave you cheering for this beautiful Shepsky with the huge heart from California.
Wolfie lost her leg to violence. But her resilience and love for life, shows us how to live a truly meaningful life with what we have. She is an inspiration to us all to overcome fear, forgive , and live forward.
Tripawd Tuesday Q&A: Wolfie’s Rescue Story
How old is your Tripawd?

When and why did your Tripawd lose a leg?
February 2025. She was shotgunned to the leg and delivered 6 puppies. Emaciated and she was not going to survive the night. A group called A Wolf Rescue was thinking she was a wolf. The wolf rescue I volunteer for amputated her leg and fostered her and two surviving puppies.
We volunteered to take care of her puppies while she healed. She rehabilitated at the wolf sanctuary. She lived with wolves and they loved her. Volunteers and the directors kept her on track w medication and veterinary visits, and rehab.
I am a wolf volunteer and adopted her because she is a dog and can’t stay there. Her puppies were adopted by volunteers.
She now lives with me. Sleeps on my bed. Goes on road trips. Has a big yard. Has a new brother and sister dog. And she is the most loving gentle happy Shepsky you will ever meet. She was rescued by Apex Protection Project.
How did your Tripawd adapt to life on three? Did the reality match your expectations?
She is amazing on three legs. She couldn’t use the leg after she was shot. But she had nursed her pups for a few days. She jumped through a window to see her puppies with a bad leg.
And now she lives her best life now. Able to hop, run and walk and ride in the car. And she still visits her Wolf friends and her puppies visit each other when we volunteer together. She has a wonderful life now.
What are your Tripawd’s favorite things to do?
Sits on the hill and watch the birds. Visit her wolf friends, play with her toys. Go to Las Vegas road trips. She loves to clobber me with her one paw.
I named her Wolfie because she woke up from darkness to the calling of the wolf sanctuary where she rehabilitated for months. Her three legs didn’t stop her. She is empowered with strength, curiosity, and the most affectionate heart.
She runs with the wolves on weekends when she returns to visit her pack. And three legs doesn’t hinder her as she runs to see Thor , her wolf. Shes a tripawd Shepsky that doesn’t know she is different and runs with majestic apex predators
What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd so far?
She is resilient, she is better than before and not in pain. She is the happiest dog I’ve ever met despite her trauma.
She loves people and she loves other dogs. She doesn’t like gunshot sounds on TV though. Wolfie holds no anger or fear. She is resilient and lives the best life in our loving home.
What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?
It will be ok. I used to be afraid to amputate. I used to think they would have a poor quality of life. I was wrong. The pain is gone. And she is balanced and never missed it.
She knows what she can do. And she knows when to rest. She still loves people unconditionally and so happy to be free from pain. I do monitor her activity and some day I’ll save for a prosthetic so she can take longer walks.
