How old is your Tripawd?
Estimated to be 4 years old
When and why did your Tripawd lose a leg?
She was found as a stray and taken to our local shelter. She had no response in that limb and amputation was the best option.
We took her on 3 weeks post-op. She was weak in the beginning, but over time she was able to gain strength and muscle.
How did your Tripawd adapt to life on three? Did the reality match your expectations?
Very well. I was worried she would be limited, but she keeps up just like she has all four legs. Our only limitation is that she can’t go on as long of walks/runs as our other dog and that’s okay. She does about 3-4 miles no problem
What are your Tripawd’s favorite things to do?
Canicross, be outdoors, go to grandma’s farm, lol
What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd so far?
That she’s tough. We treat her like a regular dog and plan to give her as full of a life as we can. She doesn’t know she’s handicapped.
What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?
Adopting-do it. It’s so worth it!
Amputation can be a hard choice, I work in vet med and completely understand. It may be a hard road, but there is a positive light at the end of it.
