We did Palladia for about six weeks. Rocky's cancer started spreading between his fifth and scheduled sixth rounds of Carboplatin, so the Palladia was our second line of defense. 

Rocky got his dose every Monday-Wednesday-Friday. His OSA spread down his side as he had a couple of tumors. After a couple of weeks on Palladia, the fast-growing tumors had actually shrunk a bit. Unfortunately, the Palladia stopped being effective after six weeks and we took him off it. 

His appetite and energy level decreased a bit and he did have diarrhea, but how much of that was a reaction to the Palladia and how much was a reaction to his cancer is unknown. His cancer did get aggressive at the end, so I tend to think it was more the cancer than any side effects. 

Bandit did not get his final Carboplatin treatment as they found mets in his lungs, this was about 3-4 weeks ago.  He was prescribed Palladia-200mg-every other day (he weighs 160 lbs), and Losartan 1500mg per day (750 am, 750pm).  He was in great spirits, energetic, active when he started this.  He was fine after the first dose.  After the second Palladia dose he became very cramped, could barely get up or walk, didn't eat for go outside for a day-it was all we could do to get him to drink water. We stopped all medication except for the minimal Rimadyl.  It took 4-5 days before he was back to normal, maybe longer.  The doctors wanted him back on Palladia at a lower dose, which I am really not in favor of as he has finally regained all of his energy and happiness, and seems as normal as could be.  I understand that he isn't fine below the surface, but you wouldn't know anything was wrong with him.

We had some travel planned, and a dog sitter, so we have waited until yesterday to restart the Palladia/Losartan.  They reduced the amount to 180mg MWF, and back on the 1500mg of Losartan daily.  We gave him the first dose last night and he seems fine today.  I'm hopeful the second dose Monday, or third Wednesday do not result in the same condition as a few weeks ago. If it does, I'm failry certain we will not continue down this path and let him be happy for as long as possible.  

We were giving him the meds in Pill Pockets in his food, which worked initially, but it seems he has equated the pill pockets to the discomfort he was in and is now wary to eat without inspecting his bowl for those things.  We've stopped putting the meds in his food so he doesn't worry about eating...we give him the meds seperately after he eats-which is not easy, and will get more difficult.

We need to see him happy, and not fearful of eating to continue on this path...I'm not sure it is worth it otherwise.

If there are any words of wisdom from those who have gone down this path I'd love to hear about your experience.  We want to give him as much additional time as we can, but not at the expense of his comfort. If others have experienced the same and it gets better quickly, please let me know.
