I had to go back a couple of pages to double check which limb Nick lost.... the newfie in the dead center I only count 3 legs, but it's a rear one I can't account for (or what I think is a tail could be an oddly placed leg).  My guess is he's in the right third of the photo.  I can't get more specific than that.  Left/center Newfs look to all have 2 front legs.

Nick is a forelimb amputee. I checked. My last post may be poorly worded. I'm having a rough week st work and my brain is fried! I think the dog is the middle does have 4 legs, it's just at an angle where one leg is hidden (or what I think is the tail is a leg).

I also think we tend to assume whatever limb our dog is missing is what everyone else's dog is missing. I know I assume hind limb without clearly being told otherwise!

OK Here's the Answer... Don't peek if you haven't tried it yet.

The one with the man leaning over him.  Nicky had a left foreleg amp but the shadow looks kind of like another leg. Tricky!!! It was a wonderful day though. The first year we've gotten him to face the camera!

Have t peeke.   gonna post this and go peek.  The Newfie standing in fron of man with aqua blue.or light blue tee ahirt.  NOT Nicholas but sure does look like a tripawd with REAR leg amp..his stance, etc looks like a tri .

But then, as pointed out. Nick is a front legger.  So then I looked for a dog who was sitting  or laying down as a front leger would prob be more comfy that way.  Then I looked for dogs with harness

Okay I give up!  Gonna go peek now!

I feel good about my assessment even if I didn't narrow it to a single dog!

Yes, The third man from the viewers right, looking down, between the woman in the black shirt and the white haired lady, that's me!  Nick was sitting on my foot at the time. So everybody wins!! Good Newfie tripawd spottingsmiley9smiley9smiley9

We have been taking Nick out for the last two mornings early and he seems so much better. Gets a good walk, makes some new friends, sleeps all day in the heat, and keeps the bad guys/bobcat/coyotes away in the cool of the evening. He took another long barking run down the side field and into the woods tonight. so life is interesting for him again and i think he feels more confident. He started to bust through the little gate, as he did before and then remembered how to go around. I think he was getting kind of down, just lying around.

Oh yay! I got it! Ugh, he's so handsome sp_hearticon2sp_hearticon2

Mischief, you are SO right in the assuming whatever leg your dog had amputated is the one that ALL dogs get, I know I VERY much do that, haha.

Thursday August 19. nine weeks today since his amputation. Nick was so excited at the idea of our morning outing. It didn't take him long to understand this was going to be daily. He met people he's not seen in a long time and dogs he brought up as puppies who played with him today. He did a little Recreationa Director duty, splitting and laying down the rules. "I know she's your sister but you are being two rough!" We all use him to guage if teenage play is getting out of hand. He loves to play too. People were surprised that he was 8 years old and a puppy's owner, a preschool teacher so a good observer, said his personality and attitude hadn't changed at all, so that confirmation felt good. Just some more muscle and balance development. That's my goal.

OSU on the other hand failed to submit the 7/31 prescription order for metronomic chemo. I called the distribution company who answered right back and emailed OSU, no response, so now I have to tangle with their phone tree. The very competant office manager at the front desk said to select Billing and they will route me to the right person. Saves a lot of steps. I'm not sure if chemo is the right solution for Nicholas anyway.

His swimming therapist said she would stay in the water with him for a half hour so he wouldn't have to get in and out three times, which was very kind of her. I'm thinking he can put up with two minutes of indignity (being backed into the pool) in exchange for a  half hour of swimming. He's going to remember the last time when he must have been in pain, but he'll just have to trust that we listened to him. Four legged Newfs seem to be able to tread water so we'll see if he can figure it out. His swimming stroke is a similar circular breast stroke rather than a dog paddle, even with three.

YESSS! smiley_clap Congrats on getting there!

Let us know how the swimming session goes. That's a lot of time in the water, hopefully he won't mind!

He really is sich a stellar example of how well bigger dogs can handle life on three.

And yes, can't  wait to see the swimming video.

I always love reading your posts about Nicholas and seeing the photos!  I’m glad you found a morning outing that he’s excited about.   We live in Florida so I have to leave for the lake by 7/7:15 AM.  Otherwise, it’d be far too hot.  For the most part, all 3 of my dogs want to just nap in the air conditioning during the day.  And, despite my putting rugs down in as many places as possible so they can get up more easily, they manage to find the hard floor instead due to it being cooler.   In the cooler weather, they are often wanting to go outside much more.  It’s probably a good thing that’s not the case at the moment since I have to take 2 out of 3 of them out on leash right now even within the fence!

What is the metronomic carbophen? I may have spelled that wrong but I thought that was an NSAID but may be getting it confused with something else!

I spelled it wrong You are right. That one is rimadyl, the cytoxan, cytophosphate, is the chemo. Metronomic chemo just means small dosages, which can bee given at home. As soon as he's no longer taking these drugs I forget how to spell them!

Our weather is a lot like Florida right now, but dry and cooler at night.  Nicky just loves his morning outings and it's such a pleasure to see him play!  He had a great game going today and can still whirl around and bump his friend (a newf specialty)
