I included the study below for more information.
JAVMA | JAN 15, 2022 | VOL 260 | NO. S1
Outcome of appendicular or scapular osteosarcoma treated by limb amputation in cats: 67 cases (1997–2018)
25 April 2007
Thank you for sharing this Holly!
I'm glad some researchers dove into those numbers. Too often when a cat has osteosarcoma, their parents are told "don't worry about it, it hardly ever metastasizes in cats." It's such a rare condition but we see it here enough to know that sadly, it often results in metastasis. 40% is a large number.
I hope studies like this will encourage more vet oncologists to discuss chemotherapy treatments for cat parents dealing with this disease.
Your welcome! Yes, not good mews. Much needed information so kitties can get the help they need!
I'm glad to see the info, studies, and research trickling in for cats. One day cat owners won't be so frustrated with the lack of information. That's my hope and prayer anyway.
