Hello all♡

I am happy to report that it has been an uneventful week here at chez-Jolie.Mignon...which translates to an absolutely fabulous week of eating and snacking and and playing and pooping well with no need for Cerenia. (Jolie has insisted on hopping up on the sofa behind me giving my hair a good washing while I write this)

I just wish I could figure out the best treatment plan. I have 2 extremes:the ckd group that is pushing me discontinue iv altogether and a vet who is pushing me to do 200cc.  It's still very concerning to me and I have reduced the iv's to 35cc 2×/day. We won't see the vet until the 24th.its not something I want to discuss over the phone.

Jolie and Mignon are doing so well so I want thank everyone again for all the good thoughts and prayers.

Such excellent update! We are also happy to know how well things are going! All I can say is, whatever you were doing right now is working. You've researched everything possible and you seem to have found the best path forward.

Brilliant news, whoo hoo. You guys will make it just fine to that one-month appointment. smiley_clapsmiley_clapsmiley_clap

It is very concerning to have such vast differences. Why not discuss it on the phone? Or email her? Another option is to book an appt for YOU to go in and talk to the vet. I would speak to her before making further changes. You have received fantastic advice from the group! They are going with the information you posted, one set of labs, no dosages of the meds, and a little history, and they gave excellent feedback. Your vet has ALL of Jolies medical history. We don't know why she has recommended what she has & that is what you need to find out!

I am in 100% agreement, NO, never 200, for Jolie. It is imperative to talk to her and get the dosages and an ongoing plan you both agree on. Explain your concerns and tell her what you're doing now so she is in the loop. We need a vet for ongoing care and scripts. Everyone involved is putting Jolie #1. We need everyone to get on one page. At the very least, the vet knows what you are doing and what is working.

Now I say again YAY & Snacks & scratches to both the boys, please

Here's to more chez-Jolie.Mignon.😽😻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thoughts and prayers are ongoing.

Hello♡

I remember the vet did show me a graph of the creatinine levels from time of surgery until 24 Feb. They were very hi at the beginning but the last 3 or so test were in the 160s or 70 with most recent ones creeping into the 180s.  She was thinking that they were low because he wasn't eating much.i think I'll have to wait and see what they are next time to what the trend is.  She is not on duty until Sunday so I might message were on the hospital chat page on Sunday.

Also, on the 24th they will be doing more extensive exam to check on progress of the cancer....

Oh are they doing some kind of CT scan?

And remember there may be no progress at all, which is what we all hope for!

Cheers to more uneventful days at Chez Jolie Mignon smiley16

Yes, I am sure Jolie's numbers were higher after surgery, and that is how they diagnosed stage 4. He is now coming in with all the fluids and treatments at stage 2; she will continue to check labs and monitor all this. It is excellent to reach out to the vet before the appointment.

Yes, those are the gold-standard X-rays and ultrasound. I hope Jolie is not sedated for any of those.

We will continue to send good juju, tripawd power thoughts, and prayers for that conversation and the appointment; no progression found.

Give the boys a chin scratch from us, please
Hugs

The last time they did a check they saw no progression. In fact she said it looked like there might have been a slight reduction. So I hope they find the same this time. They did no sedation for the xray/ultrasound last time so I don't think they will this time either.

Always thanks for  prayers and thoughts.

Most excellent all around!! Yes, if they did not sedate last time, they won't this time. Clinics and hospitals vary. I'm glad to hear it.

Always

Hugs and love to boys please

Hello All

I had a phone conversation with the vet today.  I talked about what I read about the strain giving fluid I.V.s is on the heart and kidneys and she said that, looking at his blood work until now, his heart and kidneys should be alright processing this amount of liquid which she thinks is on the low side.  About the Ringers Solution, she says some of the contents of that might not agree with Jolie. I looked up the contents and it does contain potassium chloride and calcium chloride, which are listed in the contents of the Renal Feed for Cats powder that Jolie had the strong reaction to that caused the vomiting. She said that a Normal Saline Solution with 4% sodium chloride contents is available, but looking at Jolie's tests, she doesn't think it's vital that I change.  In all, I feel uncomfortable switching to Ringers because of the potassium/calcium content.  She agreed that Jolie is at stage 2, but that's not what I remember her saying originally after surgery, so maybe I am misremembering it. Jolie has finished taking all the iron tablets and the vet says that she doesn't think he needs to take more at this time.

So, the result of all this is that I have decided to just keep things the way they are.   Jolie and Mignon are doing well and I will wait for the next blood work result to contemplate any changes.

Thanking everyone always for the prayers and advice and information and good will....  sp_hearticon2sp_hearticon2sp_hearticon2

I am glad you had the conversation and feel comfortable with the plans. That has to feel like a weight lifted. Keep the communication open and continue to work as a team.

Sounds like a really good, productive conversation! I love the back and forth exchange of ideas and how you both agreed on the plan. YAY! Way to advocate for the boys!

You clearly have a wonderful communication with your vet now and clearly she has the boys best entrance at heart, just like you. She has all of the facts, all of the records and she really seems to be on top of things. I'm over the moon happy to know how well things are going. I assure you, we are all giving you a standing ovation for the care and the advocating you are given your boys! Many people are willing, but they just aren't able financially to keep up with things as well as you were doing. Just be sure and give yourself credit for that, okay? We are all giving you a standing ovation!

To help celebrate this great news, look what we have for everybody?! Some more smile making pictures of two of the most beloved boys in the world. Seeing them  so happy, so content, so comfortable and loving being by each other's side, as well as being by your side, makes us all smile😊

Hello All:)

It seems like the views of the CKD group and my vet are in two different schools of thought as far as treatment of ckd goes.  The ckd group was suggesting alternate medications for many of the medications Jolie is presently taking.  I respect the ckd group very much, but I am not knowledgeable enough to weigh the pros and cons of each medication.  I feel uncomfortable  discussing or critiquing a majority of the medications my vet is presently prescribing as I feel that would be detrimental to the vet/patient relationship we have build together so far.  I have to feel that I can trust that her observations and decisions are solid.  At the same time, I am also being diligent in observing the effects of the medications and whether they are having the desired effect, if Jolie's body is handling them alright.  (I was really hoping to end the IVs because I'm always afraid I'll make a mistake and cause an infection.  Case in point, this morning was worrisome because when I finished the IV and took the needle out there was some blood on it and a little blood in the IV line.  The vet thinks that the additional moisture that the IV brings is beneficial so I will continue it) All in all, it seems like we are in a very good place in treatment right now.

As far as my advocacy, I am lucky that Jolie and Mignon's condition improved right as I was reaching the end of my resources which had already been severely tested due to Jolie's treatments at the previous hospital (before Jolie's amputation).  And, there is no knowing how much of Jolie and Mignon's recovery  is due to the prayers and positive energy of this group, quite a bit I'd wager.

I am hoping there will continue to be some trouble-free weeks and months ahead to give me time to recover financially and prepare myself for what may lie ahead.

Until then, it is good to see  Jolie and Mignon being comfortable through the day and night and seemingly happy each morning and evening waiting for the snacks and just being them.
