My cats hind leg was removed on 3/19 and stitches were removed on April 2nd and said she was recovering fine and healy grea and thought she was getting back to normal life untill yesterday when i heard her crying in chair . When i picked her up i notices her other paw and no nails and look like an infection between her paws as rushed her back to vet and they had the nerve to charge me for the visit. They explained she bit her own nails off and they will grow back as first i thought they declawed her. When i asked my fellow three legged facebook group about this situation nobody heard of this. I'm reaching out and asking if this is normal as they put her back on gabapentin and clavimox and confined her to a small room for 2 weeks. Has anybody heard of this as i feel they took her off gabapentin too soon. Any help and support in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanking all in advance. Carol

Hi Carol, welcome. Sorry we missed you in the Tripawds Chat earlier today. We are so glad you posted here. Your future posts won't need approval so post away.

What is your cat's name? How old/young is she? Why the amputation? The more information you can share the better we can help you.

So, cat's won't self-mutilate like that for no reason. Did the vet give you any ideas about what could have caused her to do that?

If your vet doesn't know why she did it, it's best to investigate the problem by getting another opinion at another clinic. Yes, it could be that she is having some sort of pain related to the surgery. The best way to find out where she hurts is to have an expert take a look at her. Does she react when you massage her body? How is her appetite and thirst, are those habits normal?

Sorry I know we've got a lot of questions!
