Aww poor girl. Yeah, stay home and cuddle. She'll hopefully forget all about that situation. It's a tough one. You handled it really well.

Love that all her siblings  were so happy to see her.  Very sweet.

My tripawd Frankie is very reactive vocally.   If he even "thinks" I might do something  he does like, he let's out loud, shrill howls.  Things that wouldn't  hurt him or cause any pain whatsoever!

She's probably  "anticipating " the pain that might" happen.  Good for you for backing  off and stepping  out of the room to reclaim  your strong confident pack leader energy!

This early part is hard.  Hang in there.  It doesn't  last furever...promise!!!

She got a good nights rest. Me, not so much, I slept on the floor with her and this fur mom is getting too old to do that again. We slept in the living room to prevent the temptation of jumping on the bed. no whimpering since I laid down with her last night. But this morning she seems to be more comfortable and relaxed. So that's a big improvement from last night. The incision looks good this morning, no bruising and very little swelling and redness. We did have a minor balance fall getting up this morning but I think she corrected enough not to hurt herself because she didn't yell or whimper in pain I only heard the thud and by the time I turned around she was back up. I think the dane might have bumped her on accident when he walked by. Ill update as we go through the day. Mom is trying to work remotely but most of the things I do have to be on a secure server so we won't be doing much work at all, more calling into my coworker and walking her step by step through the processes. Mentally I am better today then I have been since the day of diagnosis last week. She's home, we took the bum leg and pain away. Now just to rest and heal physically and mentally. We go back on the 10th of May for staple removal and then in a month for a check up on the cancer. Piper has already tried to fall back into her old routines and I'm having to tell her no which is something I've never done so she kinda looks at me like I'm stupid. Youngest brother wants to play so bad. they stood there this morning tails wagging in the play stance and mean ole mom had to shut it down. But the fact that she wants to made me feel better. We are gonna binge watch some NCIS for the next three days and learn the new life of being a Tripawd!

This update had me smiling the whole way through!  We KNEW Piper would handle recovery like a Champ.....it was you we were worried  about 😉   And now you are handling it like a Champ!  It does get easier as you relax more into the "norm" of what reco looks and feels like.

A tumble here and there happens as the adjust to three.  As you see though,  Piper just got up and went about hr business.

Love the look ahe gave you when you told her. "no". Slo2 and easy doesn't  sound like her style😎

I'm so happy for you guys! You sound so much more relaxed now that you can see how Piper is still herself, and she's thinking you are the one who needs help! icon_lol Yeah, occasional stumbles happen, and just like how it's important not to over-react when a little kid falls down, it's the same for dogs. You did great by handling that incident. There will be more but in time they'll fade away and life will be "normal" once again. You made it to Friday, you are getting there!

Afternoon update for day 2 post-op. We have done nothing but lay here all day. The whole pack took a good two hour nap and I can finally breathe. She's doing so well. I worried about her but I knew it would be worse on me.

Now THAT sounds like a nice way to spend the afternoon. You are both doing really great. Remember, naps are medicinal. Snooze away!

Question real fast. The bottom of her incision seems to be sagging some. It doesn’t feel fluid filled I can feel tissue in it but it’s all sagging when she stands. Will this tighten up over time??

Although you said it doesn't  feel like"fluid", it vould be just that.

Any leakage in that area?

Could you post a picture here and maybe we can help further?  Also check out seromas and see if it sounds like that.

She’s had a loose area since we can home from the vet. I’ll try to post a picture in the morning I don’t really know how to do that yet. No discharge at all. And it’s not warm to the touch.

So I called our vets office and got the after hours operator who gave the head vet of the office my phone number. I’ve texted her photos and she says pipers healing wonderfully and that everything is normal and looking better then could be expected. So I’ll try to relax today and not stress over everything.

Hey there! Just now had a chance to catch up. I'm glad the vet likes the way the incision looks! Yep, always better to play it safe and have your vet look at any concerns you have.

We would looooove to see photos anytime!

This is how adding images to the Forums works.

  • Upload pics to a photo sharing site like imgur.com or your own Tripawds blog (https://tripawd...../supporter). Pictures and video have to be hosted (live) somewhere other than in the forums.
  • Once the photo is uploaded somewhere, right click and copy the Image URL or just copy the image if you’re on a phone
  • Return to your Tripawds Forum post and paste the image URL (or the image itself) in your post. It should automatically appear.

If you’d like help figuring out the process let me know.
