Our mastiff has osteosarcoma. His right front leg was amputated today. They want him to undergo chemo 4 times 3 weeks apart by iv. I have my reservations about chemo. Looking for others opinions on chemo.
Mouse was 230 pounds. Yesterday before surgery he was down to 190. I anticipate he will lose another 20 pounds. He 5.5 years old.

First of all, no right or wrong when it comes to whether or not to do chemo, okay? I ment kn Moise's other post, it pretty much a crap shoot.
First though, what are your particular reservations? Maybe then we can be more specific in our feedback.
And keep things chunked down. You don't have to make any decisions right now. Just focus on getting some rest and preparing for Mouse's homecoming.

For my Ranger, I was not sure I wanted to do chemo, either. But, pre-surgical testing indicated that the tumor was confined to one area. X-rays did not show evidence of any spread of the cancer; however, x-rays would not necessarily show something really minuscule. Deep in my heart, I am hoping that I am buying Ranger more than the 10 - 13 months they tell you they get after surgery. He has a sister from the same litter, and they are very close. For her, I can't give up. For us, I can't give up. For Ranger, I can't give up.
Kristen, you have time to think this through. Read as much as you can on this site. Chemo is not for every dog, or even every owner. Look at the science, then see how you can support that science in your heart. You know what Mouse can handle, and in the end I know you will do what is right for him. Whatever you decide will get full support here.

Every dog is different, and as Sally said there is no right or wrong answers.
I had a Shepard that had chemo, but we felt it was right for her.
Brownie has not had chemo. I felt it was not right for him., so we have gone the Hollostic route. He has had several ozone therapy sessions.
You know your dog better than anyone. You will figure what is right for Mouse.
My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!
