We took Maya to do her mid treatment x-rays and unfortunately they located a small mass in her lungs. The mass is approximately .7mm and they suggested to change the chemo from carboplatin to Doxorubicin. She doesn’t really cough as much only has a little hack here and there. Anyone has heard of any success with doxorubicin for lung Mets? I was hoping that the chemo would buy her more time and feel very defeated to get this news only two months after amputation icon_cry

We have been doing everything that we can and she is pretty happy and energetic. If anyone has any suggestions for any other treatment for lung Mets please let me know.

Thank you,

Juliana & Maya

First of all, know that you ARE doing  everything possible for sweet Maya and she IS doing well and is happy!!

No, not the news anyone wants to hear.  It truly sucks.  As Bev said though, many dogs have gotten good extended  quality  time (Jerry is one of them)!

I know some have used Doxorubicin, some have used Palladia.  I don't  have experience  with either, but those who have can chime in.  You can also ask about Piroxicam.   That supposedly has shown results in reducing tumors.

Once you can catch your breath after hearing this, know that because Maya isn't  show any symptoms is a GOOD sign.    My Happy Hannah never even had a cough (and her met was "big as a baseball the Bet said.  So I'm  not even sure Maya's cough is related. Could be a bit of allergy or any number of things.  If it  others her yoj xan ask the Vet to recommend a dose of over the cou ter cough medicine.

Maya didn't  see those xrays and nothing  has changed in her world!  You DO have some good qua rime ajead snd rhe important  thing is to  make every day count!!!  I know you are following Maya's lead and you k ow jow ro Be More Dog .   Yes, it's   harder some days than others. But not letting  that piece of crap disease  interfere  with your time together is so important.   You can  bet Maya isn't  letting anything  rob her of being  more spoiled, getting more treats and yummy rubs!  And scoop of ice cream every now and then...for both of you....is a good way to spoil.

Keep us posted and stay connected.  And you KNOW you have to post pictures, right?

Darn I'm sorry you got that news. It's hard to hear and it does make one feel defeated but look at your girl...she's the same girl as ever, happy as can be! She's not looking back at the calendar and marking days, she just knows that she's been feeling really good and enjoying life again with her favorite people. Let go of the concept of "time" and you'll see what really matters in this world: the here, the now. It's so Dog!

We do have information about dealing with lung mets. Here are some links for you:

So sorry you got the news. About a week ago I got the news that Brownie's cancer has spread to his lungs, and I was devastated and thought it was the end. But you know what? Brownie doesn't care. Sure sometimes it sounds like he is hacking up a fur ball, but it doesn't really bother him, so it doesn't bother me.

the point I am trying to make is nobody human or animal knows when their time is up. When Brownie was first diagnosed with OST several vets gave him three months. Brownie just celebrated his one year on February 26th. In a few weeks he will be celebrating his 13th birthday. So just let Maya know how much you love her, and make each day special!

Sending positive thoughts your way....

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

There is a trial vaccine that has helped some dogs. It's the Yale vaccine, out of CT. It can be shipped to your vet, or you can travel. Some dogs with mets have shown stable tumors, or some dogs the tumors have disappeared. This isn't a guaranteed cure. Just an option. I've done it with my boy, and three chemo rounds so far. His 3 month scans were clear.

Thank you all for the support and suggestions. It’s definitely a kick in the gut all over again. I am trying to stay positive and live onde day at the time. I have been following the protocol from the Path with Paws website and have been giving her the Chinese herbs in combination with chemo. She is also in the vaccine trial. We got her first dose of the new drug doxorubicin and we have to see how she does. I have to travel overseas by the end of this week and will be out for 10 days. I really do not want to leave her and the thought of something happening while I am away is terrifying me. I definitely will add some pictures but not sure how. I will try to figure out

And having to go out of town on  top of everything else certainly isn't  good for your stress level.  That said, it would be highly unlikely  that a complication  could develop this early on with that s**t met.  Certainly  somet xould pop up unexpected and unrelated  to the s**t disease, but again, highly unlikely.

I know Louie will be very well cared for while you're gone.  He's got a good Vet team to take care of any of Louie's needs.

You've got agood treatmenr plan and clearly are doing  everything possible and then some!!!

Hope you can get pictures figured  out.  Can't wait to see them!

Hugs
