So this photo was taken just a few mins ago. Her shirt was changed early this evening. She was laying on that side for hours after. Im kinda thinking its a seroma . Its hard to see in the photo, especially with her black fur. But there is a lump next to the incision where the larger fluid spot is from. The lump has been there since we picked her up. The spot isn't deep red like its pure blood. So Im thinking its seroma . What do you guys think? The second little tiny red spot is new. Seems to be from the junction where the incisions meet.

Here's a very old link about seromas. https://tripawd.....to-know/

Doris will soon absorb the fluid, but for now it will gravitate  around the jncision area.  As ,ong as theremis no smelly I fected looking discharge, bloody, puss, etc ot most likely is a seroma .  My Happy Huannah developed a big saggy fluid sack..it reabsorbed, then came back and reabsorbed.

Of course, we are not Vets and not giving Vet advice.

That looks pretty typical. I would send it to your vet just to be sure, but yes, the body does absorb the fluid after a few days.

Little update... Doris is doing really well today. She's eating really well! She's still having some fluid drainage from a spot in her incision. I sent photos to the vet hospital this am and they said it looked normal. Then I spoke with our regular vet to give them an update and they also wanted to see the photos. They also said it looked normal. Which is super relieving to hear!! Doris is more active and alert today (and even yesterday). She's getting around really well! She's tried to scratch her incision a few times today, I assume its itchy, so the shirt is def staying on! She still seems comfortable and not in pain, so we're happy about that but also keeping up with her pain meds. We are pleased with her progress so far and hope she keeps it up! Thank you all so much for your reassurance and support! It means so much to us!

Honest to goodness, every picture of Doris makes me go Awwwww.  She is just as cute as can be.

Really good update. I'm glad you're starting to relax a little and appreciate how well she really is doing, this early on.

Keep us posted and, keep those adorable pictures coming. Got to stop smooching the screen every time I see her, it's getting a little dingy!

Hugs!

I agree with Sally - Doris looks super kissable.

Surgical incisions become itchy as they heal. I would put a cold cloth or ice pack on Mona and it helped to distract her from scratching.

Glad to hear Doris is doing so well.

Oh that little cutie! She looks pretty mellow and relaxed, that's terrific. You sound great too! I hope your anxiety levels have gone down now that she's doing better. Keep it up Team Doris!

Thanks guys! I'm definitely feeling a little more comfortable and confident. Not as anxious as the first few days, that's for sure. We had been doing a cold pack for the first 3 days and then switched over to a warm pack. Drs orders. She seems to be getting a little more uncomfortable a little sooner so I've been giving her the gabapentin a little sooner. She's been more tired today and a little less spunky. To be expected I suppose. She stumbled twice outside but no big deal. All in all, not a bad day... Just a lazy one lol

Oh Doris!  Everytime I see you I grin ear to ear  and my heart melts a little more😊

Everything sounds normal this early in  recovery.  It's  still a bit of a roller coaster right now, but soon she will become more and more consistently  stable and her sparkle  will come back more and more.

Thanks for another pic of the cutie pie.

Doris, those gigantic eyes of yours just melt my heart!

Yes, it takes time to build up that balance and stamina. She's getting there. Just don't let the occasional stumble freak you out too much and she won't either. Keep her activity as minimal as possible so that her body can catch up with her mind that will soon want to go go go and she'll do great.

Has anyone experienced muscle spasms with their dog before? I'm not positive that is what it is but it definitely seems muscular. New today, Doris has been tensing and straightening her front leg. She'll hold it out straight for a few seconds then relax it and will keep repeating that. It has happened twice today. Once this afternoon and once tonight. Tonight I tried gently rubbing the muscles of her leg and around her leg. It seemed to help and definitely decreased the frequency. Happens while laying on either side. At first I didn't know if it was a pain thing but I'm pretty sure its muscular. She doesn't seem to be in pain from it. And like I said the massage definitely seems to help. I'm assuming her muscles are tired and sore from trying to keep up with life on 3 legs. I could be wrong. She is definitely being limited in her activity, only allowed limited walking. No stairs, running, jumping, etc. Lots of sleep and rest. Let me know if anyone has experienced something like this before. Thanks!!

Yeah, I think your right.  Just a little stretching  because  her muscles are tight and stiff.  Could be like a leg cramp.  My front legger who has been a tripawd for aboit six years stiffens and stretches is front leg out a lot for a couple of seconds.  And I think that's all it is, is a good stretch  that feels good.  He loves massages too.

This isn't so much of a stretch. She's been doing it for over an hour. Its like a twitching or something. At first she was straightening and tensing her leg, would hold for a couple seconds, relax and repeat after several seconds. I massaged and it became less frequent. We went to bed and she is laying next to me just until her next pill at 11:30. She's twitching her leg. I can feel the muscles tense. Its much less frequent now, maybe once or twice a minute. Its often a small series of twitches instead of one long tense stretch. I'm pretty sure its just her muscles being exhausted. Her leg was shaking earlier when she was sitting up. Was just curious if anyone had experienced something similar.  I appreciate your response!!

Okay....when her leg "twitches", is it also in amp area where her leg used to be?  The muscles will definitely twitch on ocassion.  No pain associated and doesn't seem to bother her?? ....I wouldn't be concerned at all. Of course, you can video it and show it to the Vet.
