Kerren and Mona! Really interesting about the Erubus being found!!! I love reading about the Shcakleford expedition...stuff about Everest (Into Thin Air)...stuff like that! So the py found Sir Franklin's ship and this Sir Franklin found a forever home! YAY!
Alana and the Coons! Yeah, someo e pointed i ut he had an "anti bark collar on. And when I spoke with the coordinator today she said..."Now he does like to how@!" She said it about four times! To me....that's beautiful music and I love listening to the melody of a hound! If it's early in the morning though, well...guess Illw just wear ear plugs!!
Karma and Brendol! You'll have to give me tips on a front leg amp. Like Michelle said, I'll have a "learning curve"!
Kathi and Murphy! Your typoing is lerfection! Signed, Merry Myrtle!
Shana! Exactly! The first rescue was not meant to be!! Thanks always for your continued support! Welcome home!
Elizabeth and Tanner and Jake! You just light up my world!!! Cannot wait for our next tripawd, quadpawd gathering! Harmony...Meesha........Phranklin...love it!And love you!
Sahana and Leland! Thanks so much for sharing in our joy! I'll ALWAYS remember the story about Lucian pooping in hubby's shoe! Anytime Myrtle indicates she wants to gonout I jump up like a firecracker and let her out immediately! It just dawned on me, I don't even know if Franklin is housebroken het! Oh well, I'll findn o ut soon enough!

Sally, the bawing of a hound is just too beautiful :)!
Cooper does it when he is happy (meal time, playing with Colby), sometimes when we cross the path of another dog on our walks, and... This is hysterical...
Before he poops he spins around, lets out a loud and happy baying howl, and happy announces to the world what he is about to do :)! It has us in stitches, along with anyone passing by, each time!
We have found it quite easy to have a front leg amputee. Our vet's advice (who is specialized in trauma/rehab) was:
- never let the dog jump out of cars, down from anything, etc. always lift down. Jumping up into the car is ok;
- go for more frequent walks, long enough but not too long. Needs to develop front muscle strength to support the weight of the head and neck;
- supplements for joint health;
- be cautious on slippery surfaces
That was pretty much it really, he jumps, plays and frolicks like any other dog... Though we are careful if multipe dogs around to avoid them jumping on him at once and too much weight...
Oh, and hounds are notorious for running away after a scent... Cooper may have 3 legs but boy can he run... And jump over fences... We've trained him well off lead and he is good 90% of the time, but the other 10%?...
We always have a long lead trailing behind him just in case... Makes It easier to catch him if needed. And our yard is fenced on 3 sides so for his last bedtime pee we have a log lead tied outside our back door for him.
Hugs, so happy for you and Myrtle :)!

Yaaaaay, Sally! Lol, I sent an email reference before I finished reading this thread. So happy for you, and Franklin is a lucky, lucky boy!
Ruff Love is great to work with, btw. Can't wait to hear more!
Love, hugs and woofs from us!
Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.
OMD Sally I can't think of a better way for our new year to start. Congratulations!!!
Welcome Franklin, you've won the most cherished spot in the animal kingdom: in Sally's heart! WOOHOOO!!!!!
Do tell us more when you can, like when he'll be coming home and all that. We are all so very hoppy for you and Myrtle and I've got no doubt that Hannah is smiling knowing she has some extra watchin' over to do. Looks like a great time is in store for you!

Oh duh I just read your screenshot of the details about his homecoming. YAY!
Just wanted to add that as the pawrent of both a front and rear leg Tripawd, there are subtle differences between the two but nothing you can't deal with. I'm so happy that you got this special guy since chances are his activity level and Myrtles will probably be quite similar. They are a great match. What I would focus on is getting him strong, since he probably hasn't had much in the way of conditioning or strenthening, which is critical for a Tripawd but moreso for a front-legger who puts out a little more work in getting around. I have no doubt you'll help him get there.

Wish I lived closer. I'd drive you down.
Kathi and Murphy
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Oh Sally, I am so happy for you!!! He is so cute. What a lucky boy to get you for a Mom! This happened pretty quickly, when it's right, it's right. How old is he? Sorry, you may have put that in an earlier post and I missed it. It will be so hard to wait until the 13th. I had to wait about 10 days for Daryl and I thought it would never get here. Now he has been here 3 months and it seems as if he has always been here. Hugs, Lori, TY, C ,L and Daryl
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Oh Sally!!!! I posted earlier but I guess in my excitement I hit the wrong button. We are SO excited for you!!!! I wanted to let you know when I came to check this thread yesterday Happy Hannah's banner appeared! Just further proof that this was meant to be and that she definitely had a hand in bringing Franklin to you. WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!! The OP is howling with glee for YOU!!!! Congratulations!!!!!
xoxo,
Codie Rae and the OP

Thank you MARTHA and Pack!!! And I LOVE that Hap o y Hannah's banner came up!! Can't wait to video this guy howling...which allarently happens a lot. And then seeing the Oaktown Pack watching the video and holwing back...FUN!!
Tha ks LORI and TY and DARYL!!!! His age? It depends on who you talk to! One volunteer said he's about eleven months....the site said ine.....the other thinks he's about two!
Kathi! OMD! We'd have a GREAT trip!!!
Something that I cant erap my head around....he aplarently was found wandering around in the woods...a tripawd "wandering" around all on his own. CLEARLY he was loved because someone went to the exlense of the amputation! I dont understand why they couldn't find his owner. I would think that calls to area veterinarians would have solved the puzzle. I don't know....it just bothers me.
Imw going to email this wuestion and a few more so they can get answers from someone who knows the story. The two volunteers I've been in touch with dont really know much and have only seen him at an occasional adoption event
Plus, Idw really like to know his condition when found, and if his amputation looked "newer" of was total k y healed. And, of course, I do wish I knew the cause of the amp.......yeah....the cause.....couldn't be.....nah....couldn't be!
Alrighty...that's the update for now! Should have him soon!!
