Just made it into the new Fear Free Happy Homes blog! I highly recommend visiting this website and browsing, they offer sooo many great tips about creating a safe, fear free place for the animals we care for. Meanwhile, here is an excerpt from the article written by Kim Campbell Thornton:

Pet Losing A Limb? How To Help Him Get Back On His Feet

When my late Greyhound, Savanna, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, her oncologist advised amputation of her rear leg and chemotherapy. My husband and I were anxious about how our 10-and-a-half-year-old dog would respond to losing a leg, but we decided to give surgery a chance to save her life.

It was the right choice. Savanna had a rocky recovery period at first, but soon she was getting around fine on three legs, and she lived another two and a half years.

That was 22 years ago, and these days much more is known about amputation surgery, pain management , and recovery. Not only are there more and better pain medications, there are options for prosthetic devices and pet rehab techniques to help dogs and cats rebuild their strength and adjust to their new gait and stance. Here’s what to know about giving your pet the best recovery possible.

Stay Calm
Dogs and cats adapt quickly to their new situation, but owner state of mind is important, too. The best thing you can do is to stay calm yourself, says Rene Agredano, cofounder with husband Jim Nelson of Tripawds, an online community for people whose pets have lost a limb.

I love the comment Jim made “let him be a dog, he’ll figure it out”…..that’s exactly what John said to me on more than one occasion! I’m telling ya, those two are kindred souls.

Paula and Warrior Angel Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

I know the focus was more on the technical  aspect of why you use Simple Press, but you really did a stellar  job of weaving in the Tripawd mission and all the pluses of joining the community.

The Simple Press people should make a BIG donation to Tripawds for the artic.  It was quite a gift to them!

My favorite part, our Admin Guy was   more than gracious when he said:   “Our user base tends to be less technical than the average experienced forum user, so I created a child theme…..”   😂🤣😂🤣😂   That’s  an understatement!  At least from my perspective!

CANNOT IMAGINE  the 24/7 work that goes into keeping this site up and running.  The thought you put into  every little nuance from the colors,  to the rounded shape…..and on and on!

WE SALUTE YOU AND WE MEAN IT!!!

Gratefully,

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
