She's home now, but spent last night at the emergency vet hospital after having a seisure (s). They did bloodwork, which was not too concerning. But the xrays showed a few tumors in her lungs. The vet prescribed prednisone indefinitely.  We will not be going the chemo route. What else can I do/use/give her to keep her comfy in this stage? What has helped your pups? Thanks.

Okay Molly, let's get you over this "scaring the heck out of your mom", okay??

Take some DEEP BREATHS......B R E A T H E.......B R E A T H E..........Sure, this is ulsetting as heck, but there are DEFINITELY things that can be done, holistically and conventionally.

Sounds like they have no "cause" for the seizure, right? Sometimes with seniors they can pop up every now and then with no underlying cause determined other than "aging". I know they often lrescribe phenobarbitol (sp) if they continue.

Now, as far as those mets, prednisone does seem to be the route that helps alleviate symptons...It helps with inflammation if there is any in her lungs. But it seems like based on your recent post,,she had no symptons at that point, right? I guess what I'm trying to say is that, if it were not for the seizure, you wouldn't even know she had the mets found by the xray, right?

And that leads me to this......any dogs have great extended time even after mets are found!! Some here use metronomics , at home pills (search site). My beloved Happy Hannah developed a met "the size of a baseball" the vet said. At one point I tried the metronomics fkr about two weeks but she decided to just use Piroxicam. After a washout lweriod I switched back to Prednisone.

Is Molly showing any change in breathing pattern? Exhaustion? Lack of appetite? For whatever it's worth, my Happy Hannah never showed any real
Apain. She got so she tired very very easily and eventually became sort of "restless" trying to relax to get to sleep. Never missed a meal though!

I know I haven't given you specific anaswers as far as what can be done. Others can chime in and give you links on that. I'm just trying to tell you that Molly nas a lot of quality time to continue to soak up the loving and the spoiling that she deserves and has "trained" you to give her every second of every day!

You are together NOW! Let nothing rob you of your time together!! NOTHING has changed in Molly J's world! She doesn't give a rip about any ole xrays! She doesn't have a time frame stamped on her butt! Continue to take lots of pictures and give her anything she wants!!

Stay connected, okay? Many kf us have been where you are. It's not easy but we are here with you. Stay in the present with Molly. She isn't worried about a thing...other than how many treats can she get out of you! I have a feeling it will be a lot!!

Sending lots of love

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle

PS...Sorry on lrevious post to refer to Molly as "Dali Lahma"....I confused myself with another lovely tripawd who is named Molly also, but was aka Dali Lahma

Ohhh I'm so sorry. I am in the chat right now if you want to talk.

There are too many members here dealing with this kind of thing, it's so hard. Here is what I told Bella's mom.

Oh, I am so sorry for this news......I can't give any valuable advice, my Polly never developed any kind of lung mets with her type of cancer. But Jerry and Sally dealt with this situation, as did many others here, and Sally's advice is very helpful, and insightful. I am sure there will be others that will give other ideas for you.

All I can add, is let Molly J lead, enjoy each day, and I know there is a great treatment plan out there that will help her. Like Sally says, just breathe, and take one moment at a time, we are here for you.

Keeping you and sweet Molly J in my thoughts, and please keep us updated on her...
Love,
Bonnie & Angel Polly

It's hard to top what Sally and Bonnie said, they have such great insight. But as someone who understands the heartache of hearing that bad news, I can definitely tell you that the best way to manage it is to manage the symptoms and put your grief aside for now. Molly is still here, she's still by your side and wants nothing more than to have one spectacular day at a time. She is not focused on tomorrow or the day after that, just you and the pack's happiness. So be as strong as you can, cry when she's not around and love that girl like never before. Now is the time to Be More Dog .

Thanks for your kind and supportive words, Sally, Jerry, and Bonnie. I've been checking out the power mushrooms. They look like a good option for my girl. I spoke with my vet today about using them with the prednisone and she supported it.

As far as seizure history, she's had a couple. The first was 1 1/2 years ago, and took quite a while to recover from. This one had a strong but different effect on her. She doesn't show symptoms of developing mets. We wouldn't have known they had started forming if she hadn't been x-rayed.  Breathing, appetite, and energy are good. So, we will see how she responds to the prednisone and the additional supplements.

Thanks again for the continued support and advice.

Okay, I think we have a few things that are standing out as "pretty good" considering the circumstances! This may sound bizaare, but I actually felt a little sigh of reliew that Molly has had some seizures in the last. I say that because it seems to be completely unrelated ro this piece of crap disease. It's certainly not anything we want our dogs to go through, but it does seem that they are fairly infrequent and may, or may not, even need medication at this point.

Really glad you have a vet open to complimentary therapies in conjunction with conventional.

The fact that Molly is sympton free from those stupid mets is REALLY good!!! In my opinion that Indicates a lot of great quality time ahead!

As always, let NOTHING rob you of your time with Molly J.!! She is continuing on just like always..no worries...just absorbing the love and spoiling!!

Adding my hugs to everyone else's!

Enjoy your time with your pup. My girl started prednisone after we found out her lungs were covered with mets. The vet gave her 1 week and she was happy and playing for 6 weeks. You never know how much fight they have in them so keep up the prednisone, give pain meds when necessary and have one heck of a happiness tour. There is no way to know how long you have. Dogs are amazing. They will surprise you. I thanked God every morning that I woke up to my sweet girl. Every day is a gift. Enjoy!

I'm with the others, live each day for the gift it is. Find something special and make a new memory. There is no time stamp on their butt.  We don't know how much time we have, so just keep moving forward.

I had a friend whose dog had lymphoma.  She successfully treated him with a mushroom mixture (she bought and mixed her own) for a very long while. I can't remember the exact amount of time as it has been many years ago now, but it was at least 2 years.

Wishing you and Molly J many wonderful days, weeks, month, and years.
