We're 6 months post amputation for Riot! He gets rescanned on Thursday. Any well wishes are welcome for clear results! He's handling his first snow with three legs pretty well.
Czar is one week post op. He's bouncing back really fast. I just wish his depression would lift. I have glimmers of his true, happy self. I hope it comes back once he's out of the cone full time.
What a TREAT! Hoppy Ampuversary boys! Look what Mother Nature gave you for a present. It's marvelous fun isn't it?!
You both look so good. That's the fightin' spirit of the Wolff Pack!

Sickened for you, also sickened to hear this. We are devastated with you. The cards you have been dealt cannot be explained. Just so wrong.. I am so sorry.
Now, when you can catch your breath, there is one thing you must know! THIS OS NOT THE END OF THE ROAD FOR RIOT!!! And I'm not jist blowing smoke. Jerry is just ONE of the best examples we have as PROOF that dogs can get great EXTENDED QUALITY TIME ....sympton free extended quality time!
Don't know about that particular trial, but Jerry, and others tried Metronomics.
Riot is sympton free. Yes, he is a senior big boy and he is slowing down. That's to be expected, especially as a tripawd..
My Happy Hannah had a met " as big as a baseball the Vet said. As things progressed, she got more and more tired, but being tired wasn't painful. She always enjoyed being a couch potato anyway. Anf st 9 1/2 at the time, she was considered a senior. It wasn't until my Happy Hannah could not sleep, could not get comfortable enough to sleep. That was when the scales started slipping out of her favor. Until then she was comfortable and happy.
All we can ever offer is to continue to make every moment count.. DO NOT,DO NOT, DO NOT, LET THIS PIECE OF S××T DISEASE INTERFERE WITH YOUR TIME TOGETHER!!! The gift of NOW is all we have and to waste it by not being fully present is what that s××t disease wants...and your .love for Riot is sooooo much stronger than that!.
Remember, nothing has changed in Riot's world. Nothing. He's still his happy self loving all the spoiling nd loving you are giving him❤❤❤
Surrounding you with love and strength from. your entire tripawd family.....and lots of pawsitive energy

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Oh no! Stupid cancer, I'm so, so sorry. I feel for you, I understand what a blow that feels like and I wish I could soften it somehow. Ok, I'm gonna try....
When the vets told us Jerry had mets, he could have had them for a very long time. Since we didn't do any follow-up x-rays for 17 months, we had no idea if he was living with mets that entire time after surgery. He just might have been. We had no idea though. He was the same dog before the x-rays and the same dog after. He still did the things he loved and not once did he let on that he felt bad. Sure, the mets got to be too much later on down the road. But for the time inbetween, our happy dog was just that: happy.
It's hard not to let this kind of news get us down. If you find yourself crying, do it, but go outside where he can't see you (ok maybe the garage since I'm guessing it's cold out?!). Let it out, then gather your breath and remember: Riot is still, well, a riot! He isn't going to let this news change how he lives and you can do your best not to either. It's soooooo hard but you've got this my friend.
Now, tell us about the clinical trial! There are a ton of new advances when it comes to treating mets, and by participating you and Riot are helping science and future osteo dogs in a big way. I'm so proud of you!
((((hugs)))))

It just sucks so much. I was so hoping he would beat the odds. I can't help but blame myself for not taking him in sooner. The trial is Palladia and high dose Losartan. There's another drug in there as well, but I can't remember it. I'm waiting on a phone call to schedule his first IV chemo dose next week. I'm trying to get it around the same time as Czar's first chemo. Some dogs have had some success with this combo, so I'm hoping we can buy him some quality time.
I know it does, no way around it. And he just might beat the metastasis odds, you never know. Check out Reno's story. He lived with mets for over three years! I think he went to four. Another big dawg for your inspawration....

I know there are other dogs out there who have too, and some day I will write about them.
The Losartan treatment is very promising! Dr. Seguin from CSU talks about it in our video interview:

Big hugs for you and those handsome guys! First im glad to hear czar is making good progress and riot is enjoying the snow.
I know what a blow the met diagnosis can be. Cancer is such an unfair disease that not dog or human should have to deal with! Fortunatly riot and czar adopted a wonderful human who doesn't think twice about going above and beyond for them ❤ 🐾 and riot doesnt know anything about diagnoses he just knows he's happy and loved and having a great snow day.
Moe and i will be crossing our fingers and toes for good results with Riot's trial and Czars chemo.
Big hugs,

My sweet soulmate Roane was diagnosed with osteo in June of 2019. Had a rear leg amp on July 2nd & crossed the rainbow bridge to be with her sister Gypsy on the first day of Autumn Sept 23 2019.
You do NOG have to post! For goodness sakes, you have your hands full and you need to focus on your pack and YOU!!! So please, no worries at all about updates!
I do want for you to get clear on a y potential side effects of Palladia because of Riot's eating issues. I'm not sure, but I think digestive issues may...may....be a side effect in some dogs.
Now stay off the computer and go get some snuggles and sloppy kisses and tail wags!!

I second what sally said. We totally understand needing to take a moment for you and the boys. Take it one day at a time, if its to hectic or painful take a step away for as long as you need.
As much as we love the updates some days are certainly harder than others. Sometimes things just hit me wrong and as much as i want to reply to a post i just have to log off and try again later. Do what ever feels right for you. We will be here wishing you the best and sending love your way.
Now on your happy note.... GO CZAR!!!! Trying out the stairs already! He obviously knew you all needed a happy thought and a smile. 😉 good boy you and riot both get belly rubs!
