Those are very good scenarios. Ive Honestly said to myself the same things you guys just told me. I still cant make a informed decision. Im going to do like you said, write it all down, look at it on paper, RELAX & BREATHE. Cosmo isnt just a dog like some people say when ive told them he has cancer, he my CHILD. Which i know every single one of you agree. Im going to make myself stop doing all this research and looking for so many answers bc everyone storys are all different i cant let myself base cosmos fate off of them, everyone has different outcomes. I applaud each and everyone of you for your bravery and what you have been trough with your babies. I thank you for showing me that im not the only one. Im going to take a couple days off the forum and researching ike i said earlier. That way i can sit list all the scenarios list the pros and cons and figure out whats best for my baby. I cant even see what im typing bc i cant stop crying & the thing is, he sees it and tries so hard to comfort me.

As soon as i figure out whats best for my baby i will let you all know. but please dont stop posting while im taking a break, i want to see your thought and encouragement still. im sure it will only be a couple days and ill be back on here but until the, lift us up in prayer & i will do the same for you and ur babies. Were all in this together! oh and sally i never recieved and email from you. i checked my spam mail too. may want to make sure u sent it to the right address.

I know nothing about mast cell cancer, but I think it is one that can show up anywhere in the body?  So even if you amputate it could show up somewhere else?  And it doesn't sound like either solution - amputate or wait and see - has a "better" outcome with any level of certainty?    With osteo, and a fracture, we had no real choice on the amputation.  And I am really glad I did it.  But I'm not sure that I would take the same approach in your situation.  With a risk that is so uncertain and unquantifiable, I like the advice about doing what will make you feel best If the worst case scenario emerges (which might be, but is not always the most aggressive option).  Your thoughts about Cosmo and car rides are right on - maybe radiation would have been a more aggressive treatment option, but you know it would not be a good one for Cosmo for quality of life reasons.  And you do have some time - make your decision when you are ready and when your heart knows it is right.  If your decision is wait and see, you can always make a different or more aggressive treatment decision later.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

Howdy Marlena!

I've been kinda watching this thread from a distance because I just didn't know what to say. Our Harmony had MCT and was one of the unlucky ones. However, she lived for years with the disease because we (and the vet) just didn't identify it soon enough. It wasn't until she had an open lesion on her flank we knew there was something serious and that wasn't until the pathology report came back. Before then it was diagnosed as a hot spot.

Harmony was very close to the end of her journey before when we got the tools to start the fight.

As I read about your journey I really only have one thing to say . . . your sweet Cosmos is "sick" because of cancer and not by the decisions you have or will make. The waxing and waning you're doing is for cancer's advantage and it's just feeding the demon. Any decision you make, right now, will make a difference.

Use hate as your weapon and love for your shield. Force this serial-killer, the first step of many, backwards.

Make a game plan on behalf of your adorable Cosmos.

xoxo

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

Pam, I'm so sorry to hear about your fur baby.  I thank u for your advice and sharing with me her story, I also read your baby's story and some of your previous posts. The big C word is so scary and u think why my baby? I've came to the realization just as u said, the more I stress and cry and worry the more I feed the enemy. That's just what it wants. I feel like the old devil is using this in his advantage. Bc since I've found out all I've done is be distant, worry stress, cry, and just overwhelm myself, while Cosmo plays and has a good old Time. Just like Sally says Cosmo doesn't give a crap about cancer, he's living his life and enjoying it and that's all that matters. With that being said, I'm going to give God glory over this disease, put my clothes on and head to church. Trust in God and do what's best for Cosmo.

With that being said I still have further questions to ask my onicologist Monday when she's in the office before I decide what we're going to do. It's either amputation, watchful waiting, just let him live happy and change his diet and do supplements or chemo.

By the way has anyone ever heard of Cleos diet? I've ordered him the honest kitchen zeal food for him, but have gotten a lot of people recommending the Cleos diet. Just curious.

I also bought k9 immunity plus. How many should I give him when they come in or is that something I should ask the onicologist?

These are all great questions to ask in our "Eating Healthy Forum."

If he's never eaten human food I would be very careful. For now I would work with your oncologist to make sure you are all on the same page with Cosmo's diet. That way if you do chemo and he starts showing side effects it will be easier to pinpoint the problem. Adding too many new things to his diet now can cause trouble when undergoing chemo.

One great nutrition & diet resource is The Dog Cancer Survival Guide . You can also find & download dozens of the author's podcasts about diet, cancer, etc. here.

K9 Immunity Plus has dosages here.

Recommended Daily Use:

K9 Immunity Plus™ is packaged according to your dog’s weight. However, the formula is exactly the same for all three weight categories. The only difference is the dosage (listed below). For added savings, on smaller dogs, we recommend the K9 Immunity Plus™ for dogs over 70 pounds.

For dogs over 70 pounds: Three wafers daily. Or as recommended by your veterinarian.
For dogs 31-70 pounds: Two wafers daily. Or as recommended by your veterinarian.
For dogs under 30 pounds: One wafer daily. Or as recommended by your veterinarian.

NOTE: This is the dosage if your dog is in remission from cancer.

If your dog has active cancer and is critical, then we recommend doubling the dosage in the beginning until you see improvement.  You can then go back to the dosage described above.

Cosmo has always ate human food sadly. He never has liked dry nibbles. Only dog food he would ever eat is canned but still have to fix Chicken with it

Oh my gosh that's not sad at all, he's a lucky dawg!

Just a head's up: there's no need to requote everyone when you respond. Thanks.

The oncologist said it was okay to still do vaccines and wormer even after Mct cancer diagnosis? Some things online said otherwise.

It's a very controversial topic among pet parents and vets. Everyone has to weigh their animal's risks on a case-by-case basis. See:
