Hey Sally, you can also ask for the diagnoses/treatment in writing from the vet. This will help with your understanding. I think when we are stressed the blood pumping to our brain plugs our ears so we don't hear so well. You could also have your questions written down (don't have Merry Myrtle do the typing though laughing) and the vet could respond and write the answers down. Or even bring a friend along.

The only time I understood that Mona was in some kind of predicament was the few times that the vet phoned me to discuss it further.

Good luck with your visit and big hugs to your Merry Myrtle and that hound dog of yours.

Hi Sally

Tuck and I are just chiming in to give you a big hug and say "don't worry"!!!  Okay - I know- that's not really realistic but soft tissues really can take a long time to heal.

As you may remember, Tuck is the "lumpyist" dog there is - at first I used to worry about every new lump - the dreaded "what if" always comes to mind - and inevitably the lumps turn out to be lipomas (which don't necessary all feel or look the same to this untrained eye).

Take a deep breath - eat some chocolate - give Merry Myrtle and Franklin lots of hugs.

Many hugs and much love,

Linda and Tucker

Awww...thanks GYMNIST MONA and thr HANDSOME MR. TUCKER!

Great ideas Kerren! And yeah, I'll keep Merry Myrtle off the keyboard...although, she would probably have less typos than I would!!

Linda, I had indeed forgotten how Tuck likes to grow lumps!! I think it's because he is so sweet, the sugar has to go somewhere!!

LOVE TO ALL!!

Poor Myrtle!!! I hope she feels better soon!

I've also made the executive decision that Finn and Myrtle can't play together next month... :( Finn is still intact, and we don't need any accidents :(

Domino had his left front leg amputate on May 13th 2014 after being hit by a car. He's now living a happy healthy life on three legs :)

It is still swollen in the area of the Achilles tendon and the tendon sheath.  I doubt it is ruptured or she would not be able to walk but there could still be a partial tear or inflammation.  I would continue with some sort of NSAID such as Rimadyl and consider a wrap or brace as long as it is not too tight.  Unfortunately she should probably still be rested!

Xrays will only show bone but an ultrasound may be informative if she does not improve.  An MRI is the best way to evaluate a tendon or ligament but they tend to cost about $1800.

Julian scared me last month because his entire rear leg swelled up from the knee down to the foot and he had an enlarged lymph node. I immediately worried about some weird mast cell tumor but he was better after 2 weeks of antibiotics so I think he just had an infection.  Miss Myrtle should be fine with more TLC and rest.

CASSIE! The thought of Finn and Merry Myrtle having puppies...OMD! The cutest babies EVER!!! She's all done with her little "womanhood episode" now. Hopefully, she won t become a woman again before I can get her snipped and stitched!!

DR. PAM!! I'm sooo glad the Magnificent Julian has responded to the antibiotics!!! GEEZ! I know it had to scare the heck out of you! Stop it Julian! No scary stuff anymore!

And thank you so mich for taking the time to "review" .Merry Myrtle's "issues". Yeah, I picked up some more Rimadyl today, I got an elastic wrap that I'll put in lightly.(.she'll probably jave itmoff in no time though!). And keeping she and Frankie from playing and wrestling is a hard one...but I'm trying!

Give that gigantic teddy bear a big hug from the entir community....and a kiss in his sweet mug from Miss Myrtle!

With appreciation,

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Sally, was just wondering how Myrtle is doing. Hopefully, she is resting and staying far out of the woods. Lori, Ty & Gang

Thanks Lori! Thought Id post some pics and a video of her walking. It's been three weeks now and, yes, there is certainly improvement and the "over-all" sweelingnhas gone down, but NOT the "knot"

She ks tender if I touch the know and she is tender if I touch the left side...the outside of the knot (that is still a knot" too. She is also tender if I touch...hmmm...how to describe...where the "inside of the bend" is. That seems slightly puffy. All the other "knots" still seem more like feeling a round bone.

She acts fine through! I did buy some elastic wrap and, so far, she's gotten that off in a matter of minutes each time. Frankie helps her with that.little task. I got some different stuff today and will try that. I have failed miserably at keeping them from playing and keeping her quiet! She still goes up the stairs without me looking and still jumls up and down on the bed before I can "semi-lift" her

This is a perfect distraction from watching my city burn in riots tonight.....Sally, I was thinking back to when Polly was much younger, about a year and a half old, and she injured a ligament or tendon in her front left joint area above her paw....it swelled a great deal and that was the first time I was so scared it was something like cancer because her vets were not completely sure what was happening. The only saving grace in leaning away from cancer was that she definitely had banged it pretty hard going up our back steps to the porch, and it started to swell afterwards. They x-rayed it, was not broken but the swelling was due to a lot of fluid filling it. My vet drained the fluid off and wrapped it not too tight but hopefully to prevent the fluid buildup again.....well, it did fill up a little again within a week, and he did the same thing with draining and vet wrap, and that time it never filled again and it healed completely. I don't know if this is similar to Merry Myrtle's swelling, but wanted to give you my experience.

Hoping it gets better soon, though, and try not to worry too much....
Love,
Bonnie, Angel Polly, and new crew

Thanks Bonnie! That Polly just keeps on giving through you! Your recollection of Polly made remember (which I keep forgetting), that his happened after Frankie took her out running through the woods and scrub and got her lost for four hours! That's when she hobbled back with all this leg stuff. So clearly it's injury related and nothing more!

You stay safe Bonnie! It's just tragic what is going on. If you need to evacuate Baltimore you a d Zuzu and Pearl can come to Virginia and stay wih me!! We'll start the tripawd lawty early!

Sending love ALWAYS

Ouch! I hope that knot goes away soon, I know I'd be crying like a baby.

Bonnie, take good care of yourself and the pack, I can't believe what's going on over there. Crazy. We're all sending you lotsa love.
