…elsewhere even if it's not obvious.

Chemo was recommended of course, and we actually were able to start it today. We are doing 8 injections of Vinblastine - once a week for 4 weeks and then every other week for 4 more doses. Following that, they will do the chest/ab scans and liver/spleen aspirates to

…Pug Maggie had Mast Cell cancer- lost her back leg to a MCT in her knee.

Her chemo regimen was actually both lomustine and vinblastine, alternating dose given every other week.  You can read about her chemo in her blog, the link is 'Amputation and Chemo' in my signature below. …

… According to the notes in my blog post Mag had reactions to vinblastine but not lomustine.

Our oncologist called mast cell the most unpredictable cancer she treated, that was my experience with multiple tumors over

…surgery last week for removal of an 8cm spot. Came back Grade 2 high mast cell. So they are changing his chemo to lomustine, he's had 4 weeks of vinblastine and prednisone. Looking for feedback from others whose dogs have been on this and your experience. I also have him on a great diet and some good

… Mag lived almost 4 more years and did not pass from mast cell cancer.

Mag's chemo consisted of two drugs: CCNU or Lomustine, an oral drug, and Vinblastine, an IV drug.

She was on prednisolone throughout chemo and then about a 7 week taper until she was off that med- about 8 months all together.

…and is doing really well.  The good news is there was no sign of mets in other lymph and abdominal organs..YAY! But the vet wants to start Vinblastine chemo and prednisolone. I wanted to know if others have gone through this and decided not to go with chemo and how their pet might be doing, how

…don't have to worry about all that additional cost. (We have maxed out our Pet Insurance until end Jan)

She will have injectable chemo called: Vinblastine once a week X4 and then 1 a fortnight x4 together with steroids.

We do have to be careful of the urine, salvia and poo. If she has a wee

…was given last Saturday -

The oncologist after reading all Pixie's medical records from my vet and current oncologist.  She does not think that vinblastine (recommded by current oncologist) will have helps on Pixie's cancer and the Palladia is not effective once the cancer spread to another place. …

…vet confrimed the 2nd metastasis (to liver).  He wrote back almost immediately to admited that he read the wrong report (March's exam) and offer vinblastine treatment.  Hope this, read the wrong report, not made him not reply my email.  Pixie's problem will only get worse and i will not blame any one.

…!

My sweet Addi had her RH leg amputated in February due to an aggressive grade 3 mast cell tumor diagnosis.

We were planning on doing chemo (vinblastine) in June. Unfortunately, her mast cell cancer came back much sooner than anticipated and she now has systemic disease with multiple tumors

…might have some mild discomfort and offers to put Pixie on Gabapentin at a regular basis.  The oncologist also suggests additional chemotherapy with vinblastine. I have not replied email to him yet.  not sure about the new IV chemotherapy.   Sigh, I don't know how Pixie reacts while she is in oncologist's

…a lymph node a year ago while the primary tumor (grade 2, mitotic index 0) on the same leg went away initially with steroids. After rounds of vinblastine, 6 months after finishing chemo a 2cm tumor has appeared where the lymph node was removed and is really bothering Jasper after the oncologist

…of Carboplatin for osteo.   One reason I proceeded  with it was that she could stop if there were side effect.  So I assume  it's  the same with Vinblastine. And yes, having  to delay a treatment until the WBC returns  to normal is not unusual  at all.  In fact, there is some "theory" that the low WBC

…and blood tests. This week we were told that amputation is more or less pointless as his cancer has spread and at this point even Palladia, Vinblastine etc will not help. If I knew that any or all of these drugs would get rid of this cancer I would do it in a heartbeat but sadly they will not.

… but she's on a healthy dose of it and has been taking it for a year, so that's not an immediate side effect of the steroid.

Tina, Izzy is taking Vinblastine (IV administered by the onco - 1 mg bi weekly), 80 mg Palladia every other day, 15 - 20 mg of Prednisone daily, 20 mg Pepcid 2x daily

My gal is currently on a CCNU chemo treatment (alternating with vinblastine).  We have experienced neutropenia in the beginning when her treatments were every other week (now every 3 weeks- always was in our protocol).

…! I am not a vet, but my dog has experienced neutropenia several times (vinblastine & CCNU alternating tx's).

My oncologist vet said the lowest the WBC's can be to be able to do treatment was around either 2,000 or 2,500

…which they simply adjusted (lowered) it so it wouldn't happen again and also put her on antibiotics. She has neutropenia again now after combining Vinblastine and Palladia, so we just started another round of meds but she is still scheduled for her vinblastine dose on Thursday and takes Palladia every other

…-itive energy! I'm hoping Izzy and I can make the party so I'll keep my fingers crossed and start doing some real planning. We are continuing with vinblastine in the hope that the radiation weakened the tumor defenses and we'll get somewhere with this thing.

I'll keep you posted and hopefully can get

…530, she was curled up and sleeping comfortably.

I re-dressed her foot tonight and her tumor seems so much bigger than it did Monday. That vinblastine dose either hasn't kicked in or plain old isn't working. I did start Izzy on Apocaps
and worry that it's somehow contributing to the growth but I

…the essence.

The alternate radiation provider didn't get back to Izzy's onco today, so we'll wait for news. She's scheduled for a second dose of vinblastine and, if we get two more weeks, won't bother with the CCNU. It isn't effective. Izzy's foot is smelly and appears to be painful; she is panting

…Vet school on April 3rd to see about radiation, so will add that to the arsenal.

The CCNU isn't really working, so will likely switch to just vinblastine. Either way, they said her foot looked no worse and she is happy, hungry and seems to be comfortable. Here's a little aside from the visit, as
