I haven't been on here much recently and just now am reading that you had to say good bye to Harmony. I am so sorry! We had all been hoping that she was one of those that beats all the odds.
It is always strangely comforting to me, too, to bring home that little wooden box. My heart dog, Severn is in our living room with a double photo frame. A professional portrait of her is in one side and a copy of "my forever friend" is in the other. In front of it is her plaster paw print made by the vet techs. Millie's box is now on top of Sevy's, though I have not done a picture of her (she went to the same photo session, so will probably use that pic). Her plaster paw print is there, too. Most of my dogs don't wear collars, but a lot of people put their pup's collar on or around their little box.
As far as "clean out" goes, I haven't really had to do much of that. I used a good bit of Millie's cancer meds for DeeDee and what pain meds we still have will come in handy for one of the others. Some vets will take meds back & give them to people who can't afford them. I don't think they are really supposed to do that, but I know they do it where I work and a couple years ago a different place gave me some left overs for a cat I took there.
Remember, there is no time line for grieving. if it doesn't feel right to let go of certain items that were hers, don't do it yet. I still have the collars from my childhood dogs (One is a key chain) and ones I made for one of my girls that passed about 5 years ago. DeeDee's harness got put in the washer & is still hanging in the basement on the drying rack.

If you don't mind me asking, was this provided by the service or did you and hub-a-dub find this on your own? It is so perfect for your Harmony.....a "treasure chest" of happy memories filled with so much love.
Thank you for sharing this special photo with your "extended family". There hasn't been a day since Harmony's transition back home that I havent thought about you...many, many times a day. I'm just sooooo sorry. 'Wish "holding someone in your thoughts" could take the pain away.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013.
