Thanks for keeping us innthe loop. I know ite hard to try and post when you are feeling so distraught, but we all care very much about you and Harmondy...and hub-a-dub too!!

Something stood out with your reply.....you mentioned that you weren't able to keep the pain meds in her consistently. That could DEFINITELY make her feel pretty rotten. If pain gets a head start, it's much harder to bring it back under control. If at all possible, if you can get the pain meds in her consistently without giving the pain a chance to amp up again, that should help in jer m overall recovery too.

Tramadol is supposed to be a really bitter and yucky tasting pill. If a dog can smell the slightest scent of it they will do anyth i ng to avoid it! I made sure my hands never touched the pill...actually used tweezers to hold it. I would make a little "pocket" in some turkey liverwurst, insert the pill, cover it up thoroughly with the meat, never touching the pill and not having it's scent too obvious. Anhway, hope that helps.

Karen's observation about this cral disease causing tummy aches was helpful. Maybe the vet can give her something for that.

And YAAAAY for being mad! I prefer that over being worried and sad madmad

As hard as it is, try not to make an assessment as to how she is right now compared to a month ago. A month agao she wasn't recovering from surgery. This is MAJOR surgery...times two! A human would still be in the hospital and probably on a morphine drip!!

I hope getting rid of some of the fluid and getting her treatment started will start turning things around for sweet Harmony.

The fact that she IS eating some and DOES wag her tail and feels good enought to chase bunnies in her dreams...all that's REALLY good!!!! RUN BUNNIES, RUN!! Harmony will be chasingnyou around again real soon....and we're not talking in her dreams...we're talking real life bunny chasing!!!clap

Sending love a d hugs!

OH, in cases like this chocolate alone may not help. You must also ingest ice cream and some gooey glaze covered donuts and yellow cupcakes with chocolate frosting...and maybe some chocolate chip cookies!!!

Hello all you wonderful saints!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to update everyone last night, but I was completely spent, physically and emotionally.

The visit with the oncologists was mixed. They drained 2.5 liters off her belly. And even though that was great, the truth of it is her liver is causing the buildup and to collect that much in 7 days is staggering. I was told her mast cell cancer is so aggressive that they couldn't identify the cells. And yet it was mentioned in her report that Harmony's tail wagged the entire time they drained her belly and administered the chemo (Vinblastine).

Prognosis isn't good. She has been given a 50/50 chance to survive a month. And they don't want to commit her to a full schedule of chemo until they see some kind of response on a day-to-day basis.

Of course there is always the slightest chance that Harmony will be a miracle dog. If disposition and attitude were prerequisites, then our sweet Harmony will be that miracle girl.

When I went to pick her up, she was a different dog. Much, much happier without all that fluid weighing her down. We stopped and got her a plain cheese-burger (sans the bread). She absolutely loved that, and I loved watching her wolf it all down.

This morning she was a little slow to get up, but I mark that up as still being tired after going through everything she did yesterday. Heck, even I would have loved to slept an extra hour or two!!

Her next appointment is next week. We're all hoping and praying that she doesn't fill up with fluid again.

COME ON MIRACLE HARMONY!!!

xoxo

You have an amazing positive spirit for Harmony, and you are absolutely right, Harmony can very well be your little miracle....Spoil that precious girl every minute of the day, and also enjoy every single second with her.......I think for your next burger run, let her have that bun as well, and Sally's suggestion of ice cream is fabulous.

I know she feels so much better without all that fluid on her belly, and I am very much hoping she doesn't fill up again .....(saying a little prayer for her)......love all the pics you have posted of her,  it is so obvious how loved she is.

Continue to give us updates on her, and I am keeping you and Harmony in my thoughts everyday.....

Thank you so much Sally. This little song keeps me going.

Harmony has stopped eating and drinking. I don't know if it's because of the chemo or she's getting close to wanting to go home. This morning, the hub-a-dub and myself will take her for a ride and see if she wants another cheeseburger.

Even now, her wag is very weak. Bless her heart. We thought for sure getting the fluid drained from her belly would be a turning point for her. And maybe it's just her reaction to the chemo. But she hasn't taken any meds in 3 days, no pain meds, no anti-inflammatory, no nothing.

My poor sweet Harmony.

Sorry to hear sweet Harmony is still having a rough time.  I'll be sending up prayers that she starts feeling better soon.  Take Harmony to McDonald's for as many cheesburgers as she wants.  She sure does deserve it!!

My Sweet HarmonyImage Enlarger

My sweet Harmony went to the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon at 1:00.

To the end, she called the shots.

When the vessel becomes unfit for the soul it moves on to a higher plane.

Her tail stopped wagging, she had no more to give.
