You are right, Mignon didn't go near Jolie and just kept a distance.  Hopefully, that will change soon

YAAAY WELCOME HOME JOLIEsmiley_clap👏🏻 🙌🏻😻😍
I am so HAPPY for you and Jolie. He is doing a fantastic for his first hour home. That was the scariest time for me.

No one here said you can't teach an old cat new tricks;) You cannot ask for more on the first day home, eating, drinking, and hopping around. This is huge👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Yes, give it some time. Read the link when you have some time. A multicat diffuser is helpful in times like these, and, most importantly, wiping down Jolie to get some of the hospital smell off of him. Keeping his distance is better than having hissing and growling! 😁

The guilt will fade when you SEE Jolie being Jolie. Remember, recovery takes about two weeks, but you will SEE your Jolie and see how he adjusts in a few days. You look forward, not back. We do this for them, not to them; you had no choice. It was to take the leg and save his life.

We are here if you need anything or have questions post.

Give both the kitties a smooch from us, please.

Remember to rest when Jolie does, and set an alarm for med time.

I should be honest and tell you...In quiet moments dark thoughts come stealing in...'you maimed him' ... 'you disfigured him'...

But here he is next to me laying down. He is purring.  I put my head down next to him. He licks my face. He doesn't blame.

So maybe I shouldn't blame me either.

EXACTLY

EXACTLY

No, maybe about it; Jolie does not blame you and is happy to be alive and out of that horrible pain. Remember our motto. We did this for Jolie. We did this for Jolie, NOT TO JOLIE.

What were the alternatives? PTS or take away the horrible pain for some quality of life, more time on this Earth to be with his family, you, and Mignon. Jolie didn't want to end his time on Earth!

We all struggled with this decision, and most question their decision in recovery, but you will soon believe you did make the right choice. Jolie is already showing you.

Reframe with the fact that where there was pain (the bum leg) there is none and that is a besutiful sight to behold!   Once the fur starts filling in uoj won't  even notice he used to jave a leg there.

Clearly  Joloe is doing EXTREMELY  wll this early in recov.  Shhh......don't  anyone tell Edwwrd, okay?  Shhh.....I really didn't  expect Jolie  to be earing, drinking, hopping, pottying, etc so well this early on!!  Remarkable!!!

Hahah....too funny about Mignon liking the mat 😄

Would love to see poctures pf these two.  Let me know of yoi'd like me to post them for you, okay?  I'll PM you now with my email address of you's like to send me some.

YAAAY. for purring!  Best sound  in the world!!

LOL, yes, our best laid-out plans and cats don't always go as planned;)
I figured the entire spare room Purrkins would recover in, and he chose the little closet, which means I slept halfway in and halfway out of the closet on a sleeping bag pad for the first week. At least Jolie chose the TV room. Mignon liked something new coming into the house;)

Remember, Sally Korea is 13 - 14 hours ahead of us. It is 3:49 December 22 there. I google it to see;)

Hugs

I tried to stay awake last night incase he needed help getting in his bathroom. But fell asleep and didn't wake up until the alarm went off. I rushed in to see if he was ok. He was. Then I checked his litter and I'll be darned if he didn't pee and poop all by himself! Although he stepped on mignon 's on the way out and I spent some time removing caked up litter from his feed. And as I was cleaning his feet he was purring loudly to beat the band. He hasn't purred like that since summer.

As far as HE is concerned, the amputation never happened?

It's absolutely amazing how they figure things out and just get on with living. The lessons we learned from our animals on this journey are never ending.

Goad  you got a good night's sleep. It was much needed. Obviously Jolie did not need  any help getting to potty all by himself. Truly a remarkable kitty!

PS.... The purring is yet more reassurance that you have already improved Jolie's quality, even in the midst of an early recovery. she is happier than before the surgery.😎

As far as Jolie is concerned, that excruciating cancer pain is no longer & it is a relief to have that leg gone! DITTO Sally!!!!

Jolie is doing fantastic. Whoo hoo. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Glad you got some rest, and Jolie did Jolie.😻

What meds did they send you home with? I did some searching, and it looked like you have the same pain meds for cats available there.

Scratches to both kitties, please

I'm not sure what the pain meds are. the vet said something like it was a narcotic type. They don't write what kind of medicine it is on the envelope here. Jolie was ok during the day but tonight he seemed uncomfortable. So I gave him half a dose of the pain killer. This one doesn't go down very well even tho I mixed it with a flavoring. He is sleeping now. If he is still uncomfortable in the morning I might take him in to the vet.

Is it a liquid? Buprenorphine, I'm thinking.

Why administer half dosage? Do the total prescribed dosage on a schedule every 8 hours, and I think you will see that it covers the pain. I would have loved to see Gabapentin along with it. Yes, maybe you can call and ask; that way, Jolie doesn't have to go in.

You should be sleeping you have to heal, too;)

this is a powder. the vet said it is very strong so i want him to have pain relief but not be totally zonked out that he doesn't eat. i have to mix the powder with a paste that's supposed to cover the taste and give by syring orally but even a half dose doesn't go down well. It's so bitter it makes him foam at the mouth.

Just now he got up and drank water then went and peed then pigged out on some food. So, maybe I was just having a mini panic attacked.

We are due to go in for a follow up on Christmas day so I'll see if there are any alternate pain killers we could switch to.

PS he is purring again...

I know...I should be sleeping..I'm going to try to sleep now

But when I know someone is sick my radar is always on...good thing I took vacation

I'm not sure what the med is, try some tuna water ( juice out of a can of tuna) to mix the powder to syringe. It will help mask that nasty bitter taste and will prevent the drooling. It's horrible for them and us to see that. Tuna water and your treat tube will help it go down.

The thing to keep in mind is we want to stay on top of the pain even if it means they are drugged out. It's tough to catch up once we get behind on the pain.  Yes, if you have any concerns, never hesitate to call ok.

EXCELLENT on PURRING again I hope that HELPS YOU KNOW you did exactly what was needed.

Edward I'm so glad he's with you and making progress! What a difference already, even with the icky pain meds he doesn't like.

These are all great signs he is giving you! Many cats have a lot of unease with those meds so you are doing great! I would ask what meds he is on, it's just good for you know so that if he ever needs more you know what he does good on and what he does not.

I love that he is purring and showing you he already feels better without that bad leg. Best gift ever!!
