Jolie is 15 and a half yrars old. Amputation is strongly suggested by the vet. I live in Korea and trying to decide what's the right thing to do. I am on my way to the hospital now for surgery but still unsure although surgery seems to be the best choice. He has a lesion a little bigger than a golf ball. He had a ct scan and the cancer is suspected to have spread to liver and lungs.
Oh gosh, I know this is upsetting news to you.
So not sure of your cat has had the surgery by now, Can tell you that one of the main purposes of the surgery is to remove the pain.. Generally age is not a tissue. We've seen cats older tha6 yours go thru surgery.
Obvi the fact that it has spread to the liver and the lungs can make your decision. more challenging.
I see you're on here now, so I'll wait for an update before going any further, okay.

Thank you for answering. We just met and talked to the doctor again and I gave the go ahead to have surgery later today. Jolie went right to the doctor and they seem to have a connection. Jolie never goes to another person on first meeting. I'm taking as a sign to go ahead. The doctor said this surgery will be in the long run the most humane thing to do.....
Definitely a "sign" from Jolie . . I think it was her way of telling you to give her a chance for more loving and more spoiling ♥️. Her connection with the Vet and his suggestion of the best path forwa4d validated it for you.
No one knows how long we each ave on this earth. What we all do know is we want that time to be quaility pain free time. You are making a decision out of love for Jolie and that is always the "right" decision!
Is Jolie coming home the same day of surgery or is she staying the night (if it's a fully staff overnight clinic).
Recovery is no picnic at first and proper pain management is very important. Sometimes it take a bit of trial and error to find the best meds, dose and frequency that works best for Jolie Remeber, he good news is recovery doesn't last forever!

Thank you. They are saying 2 or 3 days for the hospital stay. I have scheduled 10 days starting on Thursday to stay home and take care of him. I am alone so it's only me to take care of him. My first worry is just him surviving thru the anesthesia. So I will be worrying about that til he's out of surgery. Surgery is from 2- about 5 o'clock this afternoon here on Korea time....
Glad that they are keeping him for a couple of days. That gives him time to get his sea, legs and shake off the anesthesia. It also gives you the chance to catch up on some much needed rest!
I'm sure your Bet will do all the necessary work ups and blood work, etc to make sure he can handle the anesthesia, the surgery, etc.
Well, just to give you some reading material to help keep you occupied over the next couple of days check out these numerous post on senior kitties!

Hi, and Welcome to you and Jolie
I'm sorry you had to find us, but glad you did. What leg is inflicted front or rear leg?
Sally has given you excellent input and support.💖
YAAY, surgery is done, and Jolie is in recovery now. 👏🏻🙌🏻That's ONE huge hurdle down, and you can rest easier knowing he is okay and where he needs to be right now.
Ask what pain meds they will send Jolie home with and how many days worth. You need more than three days of pain meds. Amputation is a major surgery. We need adequate meds and duration of meds. Purrkins was on meds for 14 days.
Does Jolie eat wet food? Wet food is best in recovery to ensure hydration; stock up on some stinky wet food to help get past the pain meds. Set up a little recovery area for Jolie to come home, too. If he will recover in a bedroom, put the mattress on the floor if possible. That's the last place you want Jolie is hiding under the bed, and there's a 99% chance he will. We need him accessible for medication.
So it looks like Korea time is 13 hours ahead of us.
Ask any questions you have and keep us updated. Please

Hi. I got a follow-up call from hospital. All of his vital signs are good. He is still out of it from the anesthesia. I go see him tomorrow. We discussed meds a little bit on the phone. I'll find out more tomorrow. They wont eat wet food but they do like the little tubes of snacks that are like a paste
Hi Edward, welcome to you and Jolie. I'm so glad he made it through recovery, that's wonderful. It sounds like his care at the clinic is really good, I like that he is staying at least a night and being watched carefully.
Please let us know what questions you have, I'm sure you'll think of them as you go. Don't forget to check out our What to Expect articles and our Trikitty ones too, there's more info in there for you.

I am going to see him after work tonight at 7:50. The assisting vet said she will call me today when she comes on her shift. I am still quite apprehensive about how his condition and what I need to do to ensure he heals once he is not in the vet's care.
Also...I fell and broke my foot while taking him to the hospital for the surgery yesterday. I was in so much pain...I realized the pain in his leg from the cancer must so much more painful. So I was in the emergency room having a complete meltdown...poor Jolie...
Oh my gosh! So sorry to hear about your foot. You certainly didn't need that on top of everything else. It is interesting though that you can relate to Julie's pain. That can be such a validation that you are doing the right thing for him.
Will be here every step of the way to help you navigate through recovery. There will be some ups and downs but eventually it will be onward and upward.
