Hi, everyone.  I have a three legged cat named Tiger and I am tigerdad.  I have had Tiger since July of '20.

Skip the next paragraph if you would rather not read about his injuries.

When we took him in at the rescue, we were told that his left rear leg had been injured for perhaps a year.  Also he had been shot with a BB gun in his right rear leg which was infected and and it looked like perhaps he had been run over by a car because much of the skin on his back had been peeled off.  Poor kitty!  He went directly to the vets when we got him.  After a few weeks of healing, his left rear leg was removed.  They worked hard to save his right rear leg and were successful.

After surgery the vet told us to leave him alone and not to touch him because of the chance of infection.  The person who was treating him at the rescue did not have enough time to spend with him and he became withdrawn.  I talked to him every time I passed his cage.  He always had a fearful expression. Despite what the doctor said, that "only one person should have contact with Tiger," I think that perhaps I should have put on a protection suit and given him some quality time.

When he was cleared for contact, we put him in an open pen where he would have contact with people.  He was eating and drinking very little and his eyes had become unfocused with little to no color showing.  The consensus was that he was crashing.  For several days, I picked him up and held him for hours with his head buried in the crook of my arm, but when I came back the next day, he was no better.  I took him home about 3 days after he was cleared for contact.

It too several days to get him to eat.  And it took about two weeks to befriend him.  I knew we were buds when he head-butted me several times one day.  He's still a little wild - he will take claws-out swipes at me from time to time - but what an incredible little love bug he turned out to be!  He has gained 3.5 lbs. and his fur has filled out.  He is a beautiful cat!  He did not need to re-hab his leg since he had learned to cope with having a bad leg already.  When we got home and I put him on my bed, he jumped off and went running for a hiding place.  I was surprised he was so mobile!

This post is to introduce Tiger.  Also I want to give props to all those who have made a place in their lives for a tripod animal.  And I hope yours turned out to be as rewarding to be around as sweet little Tiger.

What a story! He is so so lucky to have someone like you in his life. You never gave up and now he has the best life ever. What rescue do you or did you work at? Feel free to give them a shout out and let them know about the Tripawd Rescue Fund too (matching funds for rescue animals needing amputation surgery).

That's pretty miraculous that he survived the accident without ongoing issues. He sounds like a pretty spunky guy. We would love to see photos!  Here's how adding images to the forums works, let me know if you'd like help.

And never be afraid to talk about gory details here, we totally get it and aren't afraid of that kind of thing!

Welcome aboard! Your future posts won't require approval so post away.

Thanks for your kind welcome, Jerry!  I read Jerry's story .  Pawsome right back at you!

Tiger has a good story with a happy ending.  For both of us.  Tiger is such a sweet cat.  I am very pleased to have him living with me.

The rescue I have been with for about four years is Animal Care Foundation in NC.  We have many fosters and we have spay and neuter transport/clinics at least once a month, with nominal charges for those with low incomes.  We have a feral cat TNR program and we neuter many hundreds of ferals every year.  We subsidize these activities and more with donations and the proceeds from the thrift shop we run.  We are all volunteer.  We are a 501c3 tax deductible animal welfare organization.01c3 tax deductible animal welfare organization

It is surprising that Tiger is doing so well after all his injuries.  The skin on his back has reattached and looks healthy.  The black line that should go down the middle of his back does bend to the side a little at the tail and he does not like to be petted on his back. Also he does not like his stump touched. He gets around just fine and does not seem to be in pain, though cats are stoic and it's hard to know if he is or not.  It never shows in his face, voice or actions that I can see.

This is Tiger.  Forgive the cheap door veneer that has been pulled off by my cats.  They love to pick at it!  (I hope this effort at a picture works!)

Thankmyou so much for sharing Tiger's journey with us.  I was riveted to very word as you chronicled  everything he had been through and how he came into your home and uour heart.  And what a big heart you have!♥️

I love how you knew he was bonding  with you when he gave you a couple of head butts😎

And that is such a sweet photo.  You would never know all the trauma  he has been through, but all that's  behind him now.

Thank you for giving Tiger the best life this little kitty, or any kitty for that matter, could ever have.

Look forward to following  more of the adventures you  and Tiger will be sharing.  With pictures of course.  And kudos to uou and all uour team who put forth so much effort to help feral cats and control  their population.

Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Oh my gosh he is gorgeous! And so so happy (especially 'cause he gets to sharpen his nails on the veneer! 😉 Yep, cats and dogs can do pretty much anything in our homes and get away with it right?

Yeah he's a miracle kitty for sure. If you ever have any question about whether or not he's in pain, have you seen the Feline Grimace Scale?

Oh and be sure to let your awesome rescue (wow they sound fantastic!) know about our Tripawds Rescue Fund . They sound like an incredible group. Thanks for all you do to help the animals of North Carolina!

Keep us posted on how he's doing and if you ever have any questions about life on 3.

P.S. Thanks for reading our story! smiley9

The first head butt I thought might be an accident, but when it happened twice I knew!

Thanks, jerry for the link to the pain index.  I am watching Tiger with the illustrations in mind.  I am a member of another website where I might share it, if that 's OK.

I have told the rescue about your Fund, thank-you.
