Still planning to come home tomorrow. Vet says she's eating well, incision is good and stitches will come out tomorrow. She still hisses but let's them pick her up. She'll be on 100mg Gabapentin every 8 hrs, which is 3x the daily dose she had when she came home the first time. Vet also says that she seriously hates the cone, so they expect things to improve further with the stitches out because she won't need to wear it anymore.

That sounds like great mews; much progress. She's still so scared in there, im sure of it.

Yes, no one likes the dang cone.

That's a typical Gaba dosage of 100 mg, so don't panic about three times the total mg in a day., please.

Don't forget your AD when you or your husband get Discovery.

Thanks for the update.

She's ok <3

She hissed a few times and was vocal like she is when we come home from a trip. She's currently curled up with my husband on the sofa purring.

I haven't tried to pick her up yet. And I'm really hope we don't have any issues getting her to eat her medicine with food in a few hours.

I'm so glad she's home.

YAAAAAAAYYYYY smiley_clap 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Brilliant news. Welcome HOME, Discovery!!

My suggestion for you and wanting to pick her up so badly and for all to go well. Wait and let her come to you. She will give it a little bit of time.

You try to breathe, and we say that in all seriousness, 4 4 8 is easy to remember: breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds, hold for four seconds, and then breathe out for eight out of your mouth. This is to bring your stress level down and relax, so that is what Discovery feels from you. It's work and conscious effort, but try to see if it helps you and Discovery. They are so sensitive to us. We are humans. We are imperfect, and we get stressed by all the unknowns. You are nervous about how she will react to you. So breathe, and let her come to you!! She is purring with your husband because he is relaxed and not concerned with a reaction. (my thoughts anyway)

Meds: Do as I wrote above on the meds, and if you have any issues, we will come up with some more ways.

I understand the stress of medicating and learning and having a spitfire kitty on top of that. You are not in this alone. We will do what we can to help on our end. I hope the AD is the easy answer. 🤞🏻

Thanks for letting us know Discovery is HOME and PURRING on your husband's lap!!!😍😍😍  Have him give her a chin or ear scratch smooch from us.

Keep us posted, please. im praying my heart out the AD is a HIT & you all have an uneventful night! AD IS ONLY for meds!! HIGH VALUE tool

She's doing really well. She hissed a couple of times when she first got home and once when startled awake at midnight when we got up for meds but ate all the food I gave her with meds mixed in. She didn't do as well with breakfast, but I think I need to give her a smaller portion. I was able to supplement with some liquid gabapentin I had left over from the previous exploratory surgery. I'm confident she at least got very close to a full 100mg dose. Do you know if Pro Plan EN is similar to the Hills AD? Vet gave us Pro Plan EN but next dose I might try Fancy Feast, I think she still likes that better.

I'm working from home today, and we're in the living room where we spent the night last night. Vet wants her closed in a small room with nothing to climb on when I go to work. So, I'll have to pick her up tomorrow to carry her up to the spare bedroom we have set up for her. She's normally very easy to handle and will let me tote her around, so I'm hoping that by tomorrow she'll be ready for me to pick her up briefly just to relocate her. She was very affectionate this morning so maybe it wont be a big deal.

She's sleeping in her bed now. She's been sleeping really deeply, I feel like she hasn't slept well in weeks and is finally getting some relief.

I can't thank you guys enough for the support. These past 7 weeks have been crazy. Starting with a mysterious lump that her vet couldn't identify and that didn't go away, then exploratory surgery, cancer diagnosis, amputation and the difficult time she had afterward. She's really been though it, and I'm hopeful that things are going to start to improve for her. sp_hearticon2

Reading peoples experiences on here has been a great resource and comfort for me. I will for sure continue to keep this thread updated with her progress for anyone that needs it in the future.

Oh, im so happy to read this update. 😍PHEW: Great job supplementing to ensure the meds are in! The dear girl its no wonder she was startled in the night from being away so long. She will be sleeping A LOT to recovery from her stay.

No, I'm sorry, im not familiar with that food. Do they not carry hills? It's shocking, if not. AD is a very strong-smelling ( good to hide stuff in) high-calorie food for recovery & times like these.

Yes, I agree to do smaller amounts, and please not at her usual meal times. I hate, yes, hate, for you to ruin her favorite foods. I would like to see you use something new and yummy.

Do you have a Petco nearby? You can grab Tiki Cat Baby Thrive, a high-calorie supplement and tiny sachet you could use instead of the AD. It is not always in stock, so I would check the website, punch your zip code, and ensure they have it before going. You can also try Gerbers baby food 2 nd foods like Turkey and Gravy, Chicken and gravy, Ham and gravy. My first choices for you are AD and then the Tiki Cat.

I don't know what her favorite flavors are. What does she love ( her fancy feast is which flavor)? Does she like any treat tubes? Churu? Many people have luck with Hartz Delectables. I keep repeating myself here, but this is for Meds only. My concern with the above is she gets a taste of the gaba. Ad and Tiki cat you have the best shot being undetectable.

If you can syringe her the meds, thats #1 choice. #2 choices is adding the open capsule into a bowl, mixing it with a little liquid treat tube or baby food, slurping it up in a syringe, and syringing it to her or 3 rd only because she is the only kitty in the house, adding them in high-value food or treats such as the above ideas.

You are very welcome. That's what the site is for; we have all been on this journey and know the worries, the stress, and the toll it takes.🫂

Im over the moon; to see things are improvingl! Each day will get better🙏🏻

Scratches to Discovery please(((Hugs)))

Had given her meds mixed with Temptations Creamy Puree before, but she was eventually turned off of that. Fancy Feast Gourmet Gravy Ocean Whitefish is what she has never turned down even with meds mixed in. Its also small single serve containers so its never cold; she likes room temp food better than cold. We'll try that when she's due for meds at 4.

Emailed vet about Hills AD, if somehow they don't sell it I can get it at PetSmart with a RX which I'm certain her vet will provide.

I had given her some TikiCat with Pumpkin before to help her poop and she really liked it but I don't want to turn her off of that since its grain free and fits the anti cancer diet, I want it to be an option for her going forward. I'd rather her get turned off of junk food than good healthy food. At this point I'm not afraid of wasting doses, I have plenty and can always get more, fortunately Gabapentin does not seem to be super expensive 🙂

I'm amazed at how good the incision looks. Some parts look completely healed with no real scar.

WOW she is making some excellent progress! Glad the incision is healing too. That is a very good sign she is mending from all aspects of the surgery.

And you too, you are doing great! It's not easy what you've been through, it's like a bad whiplash injury! We never expect to deal with this kind of thing and when we do it's a fast learning curve, meanwhile we feel terrible that our fur kids are hurting. But it really does sound like she's doing better.

Try not to get too strict on her diet right now. There's been a lot of controversy over whether or not the whole grain-free , no sugar/starch cancer diet really works. Her appetite and taking meds is more important than anything else. There are always other foods you can try later. I know, easier said than done when it comes to cats, they are tough food critics!

I hope today turns out really well. Let us know!

Agreed!

She's been sleeping the past 4 hours with occasional position sifts. Lifts her head and purrs whenever give her a little love.

Excellent on the incision.
OK, yes, on the fishy foods, it's easier to hide meds in stinky!!! Plus, cats like stinky! 😻

The tiki cat I mentioned differs from the food you are speaking of. It is a supplemental sachet and worth a try for meds. It won't spoil her tiki cat "meal" food.

Great, you emailed the vet on the AD script. 🤞🏻

I ditto 100% on "our choice of foods." a cat eating & meds is #1, and if we have to compromise or feed foods that are not our (human) #1 choice, thats OK ~!! Eating 'junk" for meds or a cat not feeling 100% is OK; food is life!!

YES 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 on the sleeping and purring she knows she is home now and feeling so much better!
