Are you in Colorado and having financial difficulties paying for vet care? We just came across this article in the Fully Vetted Pets MD blog about an organization that might be able to help you: Low Cost Veterinary Care:

We have a similar organization here in Colorado called PetAid Animal Hospital. PetAid provides state of the art veterinary services to the pets of vulnerable populations in a compassionate and respectful manner.

If you want get a better feel for how these programs help owners and pets, check out the video available on the PetAid website and then rejoin us here.

If you are in the Boulder area, there is also a clinic that has a program for those in financial need. I've used it and can vouch for it. The clinic is called Pet Menders. The program is the Piper Memorial Foundation. Depending on contributions and investment return, the foundation contributes quite a bit toward the costs of treatment. I know for years it paid 2/3 of costs. I think now it is paying a little less. It can truly save a life.

The program does not pay for regular preventive care. When I used it, it paid for Dakota's massive dental because he had a congenital dental problem and the doctor prescribed the dental. But it won't pay for health exams, vaccines, etc. It will pay for emergencies, injuries, illness, medication, etc. You have to qualify, but it isn't hard or arduous or embarrassing. It is dignified and private. And the doctors are good and kind.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Dakota's thoughtful and erudite blog is at http://shari.tr.....pawds.com/
