Hi All!!
Lucy continues to improve! She just about has all of her sparkle back. She is doing so well with eating and getting around. She is still a bit lazy with her back feet, but she is a Dane. She still doesn’t want to drink a whole lot of water, even with chicken broth, but eats like a champ. She has gained some weight back and you can no longer see her spine or hip bones as much. She likes to hang out on the patio or front yard and just watch the world go by, she demands attention again if she feels like you aren’t giving her enough, her tail wags more often than not, and she plays with toys again! I’m linking a video of her first swim session.

These are the kinds of updates we love! Lucy is a big girl RockStar!!!
Lucy has learned very quickly that Tripawds can get more spoiling than they ever could with four! And when you're a Greyt Dane tripawd, cuteness is undeniable!
Her swim video made me smile😊 I'm pretty sure she prefers being on dry la and thpugh!
And the sparkle continues to get brighter!

She looks SO good! Love those big waves that she's making, what an inspawration!
Sounds like things are going really well. I wonder what's up with not drinking water? Did your vet have any clues?
3-paws up Lucy! You're rockin the life

I have a theory about the water drinking. She used to be a BIG Chug-Chug water drinker, but I think when she drinks a bunch and then has to hop instead of walk it sloshes too much. The first couple of days home she was doing big chug-chug, but would go to walk and some water would come back up.
She is peeing several times during the day and sometimes has to go at night, so I’m not too worried about her being dehydrated. It is just a behavior change since her amp. She also prefers to drink it out of a bowl with us holding it versus her water dispenser on a stand. We always have water available to her and offer it several times throughout the day.
And YES, Sally, Lucy prefers terra firma!!
Ohhh that IS a good theory! I know that when I drink too much water and then go out for a run, I feel the same way. The unique Tripawd gait probably makes things really, really sloshy in the belly. I never thought about that before!

Yeah, good observation about the water and the "sloshing" theory. Makes sense to me!👍

Wow look at Lucy go!! I just checked out her instagram page and she is looking AWESOME! Our dane Sage is only on day 2 and has yet to come home but seeing Lucy's story is such an inspiration! Sage needs to shed some more weight, but for better or worse, I'm sure the major surgery will push that process along. She's a rescue so she has been on a strict diet already and has already shed weight pre-surgery, so we'll get her looking as lean as Lucy as soon as we can! Love to Lucy and her family!!
Hi All! Just an update on Miss Lucy. Surgery recovery is going really well! She has her spark back! She had some zoomies last night, she plays with toys, she eats like a champ, goes potty, and gives tons of tail wags and love. We add one house length every couple of days to our walks and she loves it! She gets more comfortable walking as a tripawd every day and I’m going to have to start wearing runny shoes to keep up with her!
She was having some neck pain from adjusting to her new gait as a tripawd. We tried PT in the water, but she hated it. We tried acupuncture and she wouldn’t get out of the car and then they treated her in the back of the car and she was too stressed to get any benefits. Finally, I found an animal chiropractor that made a house call and Lucy seems to be doing much better with her neck pain after that. The chiro evaluated her gait and other limbs and she said everything is doing great!
We just dropped her off for her second chemo appointment and she does not like to get out of the car. It took my husband and the vet tech to drag her out! She shows no interest in any high value treat to get her out not even peanut butter! I feel like I’m torturing her every time I have to take her to the vet because she is so stressed by being there. I feel so bad! Unfortunately, chemo is the necessary evil vet visit that we have to do. Now, I have to wait for her to be done this afternoon.
YESSSS! Miss Lucy you are a champ!
I love that you are slooooowwwwwly adding those house lengths into her walk. Taking it slow and easy is the best way to go as you start to see where here body is at in terms of endurance.
What a total bummer that she didn't like acupuncture but YAY on the vet chiro! That's very cool it went so well and she got a good report card.
Paws crossed for a good chemo session and recovery! Keep us posted.

Lucy is now 8 weeks post op! At this point she has zero limitations. She runs, jumps, plays, gets zoomies, and barks at the little dogs next door. In short, Lucy is back to herself! Sometimes I think she has more energy now that she did before she was a tripawd.
Lucy went in this past week for her first set of follow up X-rays and they were clear!!! That gave us tons to be thankful for this holiday. Her WBC count was a little too low to do her third round of carbo, but she is scheduled for next week. When we picked her up from her X-rays she was so excited she jumped all the way up into the back of our 4Runner, she didn’t even do that before.
It makes me so incredibly happy to see how well she is doing! I still have to remind myself every day to “Be More Dog .” so I can enjoy the little things with her. I can’t thank this community enough for all of the support when she was freshly recovering. I will update in a few weeks, until then Lucy will be living her best life!!
Hi, just catching up. Miss Lucy is absolutely beautiful! May I ask how old she is? She looks like she is doing fantastic! I love the video of her swimming. She looks so Happy!
And YEA FOR CLEAR XRAYS. WAY TO GO LUCY!😁
Keep the videos coming. And pictures of that beautiful girl please....
My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!

WOOHOO! I'm just catching up on your super joyful news, congratulations! I kept missing you in the chat the last few days so I'm really happy you updated here. Thank you for sharing the love and hoppiness!
Many people get really down when their dog can't have a chemo session because of low WBCs but you didn't and that it proof that you are absolutely practicing how to Be More Dog and following Lucy's lead. YAY YOU TOO!
Sending lots of love to you and beautiful Lucy! Love this pic:

Friday is going to be Lucy’s 12 week ampuversary! I can’t believe it!
This year for Christmas we got Lucy’s last chemo treatment today. She had some yuckiness with her third round of chemo so for her fourth round today I asked the onco for the injection form of the Cerenia and the oral form to bring home. Besides being wiped out, she is doing well today.
As far as her recovery from her amp and adjusting to life on three legs, she is doing AMAZING! I think she has more energy and spunk than she did before her diagnosis and surgery. She’s happy, she plays with her toys, jumps, goes for tripawd “walks” which means I’m running. She does everything I would want for her! Next update in a few weeks.
