Hello!  I just joined the forum!  My girl Nona is a pitty tripawd.  She had a tta done 3 years ago for her acl.  Sadly it was poorly done and the cage wound up in her joint 🙁  After 3 years of trying not to amputate it wad left to only amputate.  It was about 6 weeks ago.  She has done very well!  The first week she had loads of pain, but the vet helped figure out meds and she did wonderful.

6 weeks later she had a tplo on her leg that is left.  I asked the vet a ton of questions, but got home amd have more questions for people who have gone through this.

Nona had her TPLO yesterday and was released today.  We have a help me up harness.  However she is refusing to bear weight.  I am assuming she will feel better in few days and start bearing weight?  She also hasn't peed since yesterday afternoon.  Is this normal?

Thanks!

A very nervous mama!

So sorry to hear about Nona and the challenges she faces. That will be a ruff recovery indeed, but many members have shared similar experiences here and in the Tripawds Blogs . Don't miss this Tripawds News blog post about remaining limb surgery and recovery.

Thank you for all that GREAT information.  3 yesrs ago she had the tta which went wrong, but vet at time said knee issue was nothing to do with tta.  Naive me believed him. Anyway 2nd surgery tta plate removed, 3rd surgery meniscus removed, then we moved about a year after this.  This summer we were referred to the vet hospital school where we found out the issue was indeed the tta and her leg needed removed 🙁  I felt awful.  And the first week of figuring out pain meds was a nightmare.  That being said, the pain level of the TPLO (5th surgery and god willing the FINAL surgery) is no where near the level of the amputation.  For that I am grateful.  I feel bad that she is struggling so much though.  She wants to resettle in crate and just can't get comfy so she whines and cries.  I took the lid off her airline crate and laid in the crate with her.

The moment I felt good about this amputation, then she has this TPLO and I am like oh no.  Going to be a super long 6 weeks.

I was reading about the rehab after your post and feel so much better!  I was thinking I have this dog who use to run after rabbits, do barn runs, go for jogs, and all that has just disappeared.  So the rehab at least gives me some hope.

Oh and can I say I have never been so excited to see her pee!  LOL
