If I recall, Happy Hannah was a little over the two week mark.  Generally it is around the two week mark, but some may have to go a little longer.  Some get them out sooner, maybe around the twelve day mark.

Other will chime jn......

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Sally is spot-on, generally 10-14 days as long as everything heals up nicely. Why do you ask? I'm nosy 😉

I've been for endless checkups with Adam, everything looks like it has healed fine and he is DESPERATE to get going again now (only so many mind games and calming exercises you can do with a sighthound who just wants to run like a maniac 😂)

But we're on day 17 and the vet says he no longer needs his meds but we need to leave it ANOTHER 5 days before he will consider removal... I just felt like 3 full weeks seemed a little excessive.

The stitches are driving him mad, which in turn is driving me mad, and frankly I'd like to see my dogs face again soon, rather than a big blue moody daffodil with a body 😂

Ohhh yeah, it's gotta be making him crazy to be subdued for so long. Your vet is being super cautious, and unfortunately it makes sense. We've seen a lot of wrecked incisions here and even this late in the game. Are the stitches itchy for him? Have you applied any vet-approved topicals to make them less itchy?

R got his out at exactly the 2 week mark.  He was very, very ready.  Sorry to hear you guys are slogging through a whole 'nother but certainly better than having a setback, I guess.

I know my cat Mona was getting itchy from the hair growing in so I just draped a cold, damp washcloth over the site. It helped her to relax and ignore the itchiness. Maybe it'll help Adam until you get a topical as suggested by Jerry.

We have a topical cream, which I keep refrigerated so its even more soothing. Hopefully these next few days go by fairly quickly!!

Update : I took him into the vet 4 days early because he was driving me mad, and the buildup of dead skin under the sutures that I couldn't get to was starting to smell. They took them out and he's much more relaxed. Only a few more days of the damned cone!!

Oh it's not an infection, there was a flap of skin sewn over the main incision to protect it from knocks and scrapes (because Adam is a buffoon and his greyhound skin is super thin) ... There was starting to be a buildup of dead skin and the cream that was difficult to clean properly, which was just a bit cheesy! hence I took him back early 🙂

Oooooh wow poor guy! At least he's feeling better and your nose isn't assaulted anymore. What cream were you using? Just curious.

Onward and upward!

Dermisol, a wound healing cream that kinda helps push out dead skin and debris. It's fabulous stuff, I was just being a bit OTT with it in the flaps and the pushed out stuff had nowhere to go 😂😂

Anyway he smells great now and we're mere days away from full freedom! I can't wait!

Wow.  Our vet said he could remove the stitches the end of this week which would be 10-11 days since surgery.  Perhaps too soon?  Do you guys leave the cone on 24/7?  The cone has really slowed our puppy down.  Give me patience.
