Green clay.  HUH.  Wrote it down.  Will make some calls in the morning.  A PLAN, that's all I need is a PLAN!!!  Thanks for the link; another new company to order stuff from - things are looking up.  Met the mail lady one day last week when I had quad GSD Smokey in tow, and she commented about my spoiled rotten dogs as she handed me the pile of pet catalogs, WDJ, and Bark Magazine.  And she doesn't even see the stuff that our favorite UPS guy brings!!!

I'm really beginning to suspect that after we go to bed they all get on the computers and plot against us....just for yuks.

Thanks once again for great ideas; I jus want so badly for our old girl not to have pain and discomfort..I need to b-r-e-a-t-h-e and give things time to work.  If I only had a "patience" gene.

Remember- it's about quality time, not quantity.  If Roxy doesn't tolerate something then move on.  She doesn't care and you are not giving up.  You are GIVING quality time!!

My last three months with Maggie were a mess from some perspectives (kidney failure and second cancer- melanoma). I had all kinds of crap in the fridge that Mag wouldn't eat, all my furniture was lined with incontinence pads, my back room looked like an infusion ward with the sub-Q fluid rig, and I was doing laundry every day because Mag was making a mess from one end or the other.  In fact I did so much laundry that I broke my dryer. Maggie was so thin you could see her ribs- I can't imagine what people who didn't know us thought...pushing my 'starving' my three legged dog in a stroller.  I know what people who knew me thought... that I was a whole new kind of crazy way-confused

But none of that mattered.  All that was important was that Mag was still happy.

This is the place to share our fears and frustrations, because we all can relate.  So hang in there and a belated rooooo rooooo!

And yea for a new place to shop big-grin.

Karen

p.s. I can't have gone that crazy because me security clearance was renewed!

Do you think anyone here in my part of CT has any kind of clay????  Sheesh.  Looks like Amazon has the RX Clay, although it's supposed to be only thru a vet, so I'm ordering some.

HRH had a little more diarrhea overnight on the pee pad by the back door, and a LOT of pee.  She would only take a little slice of roast beef so I at least got this morning's Prilosec in.  She's got a mucus-y discharge from both eyes (I know I read something about that but where the hell was it???) Hubby got the 2nd dose as well as the last Cerenia from IV chemo around noonish after a lot of coaxing.  I left a msg with onco and she called back early afternoon.  Stopping Palladia and she called in a scrip for Flagyl.  So I got that into her and she ate a little frozen yogurt and maybe half a slice of roast beef.  Swallowing seems to be an effort.  I checked her mouth and her gums look quite inflamed - very big change from a very healthy mouth just a month or so ago.  She's just sleeping quietly.  I may work from home tomorrow to keep an eye on her.  Onco is only in M-Th, so I'm thinking of getting an afternoon appt just to have her look at Roxie.  Primary care vet who knows her best is on vaca this week - OF COURSE!!!  So there we are.  Right in the middle of suck city.

From some of the other posts I know we're not alone.  So prayers upstairs for all our kids.

and, like Patricia, it's a new day.  Roxie just looking like a sick old anorexic dog this morning so I got her into the onco.  Full exam, including the surgeon doing a 3-limb-check, temp, blood work, urinalysis (results tomorrow) and....NOTHING IS WRONG.  Slight movement in proteins that Palladia may have caused, but not likely.  And wouldn't cause the refusal to eat.  BUT she says Roxie's not crashing and thinks this may be some transient bug that she just needs to work through.  She'll call tomorrow if anything odd in urine results but otherwise I'll talk to her Monday and reassess.

Very puzzling.  I think she just wanted to go see the doc since they love her.  So $290 for peace of mind - PRICELESS.  And we stopped at fast-food drive-thru on the way home and she very daintily ate half her burger and roll...more than she's had in 2 days.  sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

OK I know that was some expensive peace of mind but wow, that's great that everything is normal!

I think a lot of times it's just the major shakeup in routine that can really throw off a dog's GI system. As things normalize so will her tummy. I hope your green clay arrives soon, it's really miraculous for upset stomachs.

It's a rollercoaster isn't it? Hang on, you'll be off this crazy ride soon and things will settle down.

Liz, d'on't make me come over there and beat you over the head with HRH's crown! You aren't spending the night at the drive thru burger joint?? You went home? She ate a vurger and you wwent home? :-) :-)

Okay, so Happy Hannah needs to loose weight. So, if I put her on Roxie's diet of Palladia, she'll knock off a couple of ponds? Jerry needs to put this in the "eatng healthy" section!

I'm really glad you're feeling some relief tonight and that is, ndeed, priceless!

Okay Roxie it's time to shout out a little ROO ROOOOOOOOOOOOO! Oh yeah, I heard that ne!

Lots of love,

Sally nd Hapy Hannah

Well, lets go with the positive....at least the vet doesn't think she's crashing and that great news! I agree with Jerry, my pack does not react well when the routine or "norm" is changed around. Especially Atlas, the boy has such a history of GI upset that I keep a bottle of metronidazole on hand at all times. It works great for him, just one pill and he's all cleared up. Some vets say it has antibiotics and it has to be given 10 days to work others say it has a combo of meds and so many healing qualities that if just one does the trick for Atlas then its ok to administer on as needed basis. So that's what we do and it works great for the big guy although we haven't needed that much since discovering he has a beef allergy and that was a huge part of the GI upset. Even one cookie and he got diarrhea.

Here's hoping the Roo Roo girl and Smokey are feeling better today!

1) green clay on the way.

2) HRH only ate 1/2 of her burger and pushed the rest away.  same with the roll. passed on the fries, and they were the best part.  Maybe a milkshake would have helped wash it all down.  Passed on her IC last night.  and tonight.

3) Did some more reading on metronidazole today and saw an awful lot of her symptoms on the list...rare but possible neurotoxic reactions.  I know it does a lot of really good things that no other drug does, but that passing thru the blood-brain barrier?  YIKES.  She's had a slight tremor for days - feels like there's electricity through her body. Since she's no better today, and getting weaker b/c she's not eating, I left a message for onco's office to call me.  Stopped and got some calories-in-a-tube, a new syringe, and chewable multivitamins.  Onco called and said no problem with stopping metro since we're giving her a rest from chemicals.  Urinalysis showed no evidence of infection and, since she hasn't had a bowel movement since, oh, Wednesday morning, not really worried about 'rhea right now.  Gave her the nutritional gel and will start syringe-feeding tomorrow with the goat's milk and multi's.  And check back in with onco Monday.  Also having holistic vet call me tomorrow; might as well cover as many bases as I can.

4)Haven't gotten a single "ROO", other than on these pages, since MONDAY.sadcrying

5)Smokey is just fine, thankusoverymuch!!

That's okay, we'll all Roo Roooooo for her til she get stronger.
I'm realy glad she's off the metro. Maybe someene else can remember who, but someone's dog here was indeed have a bad reaction toit Very good that you checked that out. Really could be part of the problem and still throwing off the Palladia.

Hadn't heard of the nutritional gel syringe thing...that sounds like something thatt could help too.

Remember Chuck had a couple of weeks where his recation to chemo just aout threw him to thr grou d. He would barely, barely eat and Lori was just aout th throw in the towel. Itseems they basically stopped everything and then he started eating and, if I recall, are going forward with lower doses .

Oh, did you ask about prednisone?

Hang in there Liz! HRH Roxie will get past this once all the bad stuff is out of her system. Tests are all looking good, it almost has to be the rugs!

Did 'google' say the symptons would go away once the metro was out of her system? And how long does that take? Is tere an antidote she can take?

Okay Roxe, I'm still boxig up some hamurgers , fries and milkshakes, off to ya', so you eat, okay?

Alrighty, all the tripawds will do the Roo Roooooooooing for you tonight and u til that metro. drug where's off---but after that'
, we wat YOU do it because no one does it better:-) :-)

Roo Rooooooooo Roxie!!

The Tripawds Nation RooooRoooooos for Roxie tonight. We hope she feels better soon. Poor girl, I imagine she's feeling pretty bad. We have our paws crossed that she perks up after she sees the holistic vet. Keep us posted.

The gel I got is GNC High Calorie Booster; comes in a tube.  Had used Nutrical for cats a number of times over the years but this the first I've used for dogs.  Has vitamins and fat; sugar, too, but she needs some nutrition and this is a quick way to deliver it.  Just slime it on the roof of her mouth and that's it.  She actually ate 2 pieces of grilled chicken tonight, so that's something.  She's definitely struggling with mobility right now; we're back to a harness for support.  We were talking tonight about the change from Monday.

Pred is on my list for Monday's call; this weekend is a no-drugs weekend for HRH.

Google (vetcontact.com) says that the elimination half-life of metro varies from 3-13 hours.  Veterinarypartner.com says recovery from neurologic signs of toxicity takes 1-2 weeks after the drug is stopped.  That can be dramatically shortened with - get this - valium!  Not sure if that's for the patient or the pawrent.  So we'll see how it goes.

Someday I'll figure out how to ship off a video I have of dinner prep, complete with HRH roo-ing.  For Jerry to post, of course.  Was pre-ampu, but the voice hasn't changed.

Thanks to all for making sure the ROO ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO's continue until herself is up to it.
