It sounds like things are going MUCH better for both of you.  Rest does some amazing things for us humans! Valentina knows how much you love her.

I hope when she comes home this time it will be a better experience.  Surely the bleeding will have stopped before they allow her to come home, and the antibiotics should help.  Still sending good thoughts for a speedy recovery.  Hopefully all is on the right track now.

Many of us come here with our heart dogs. It is very sad when they leave, but you can't focus on that part for if you do , you will miss out on some amazing memories that are yet to come. I was terrified Trouble would die until about the 14th month after amputation.  One evening I was sitting outside with her and I suddenly realized I was no longer afraid she would die.  I knew one day she would be gone, but the fear was gone. I hope you don't have to face that period I did being afraid.

We are all pulling for you and Valentina.

I'm so glad that to hear that both of you are doing better.  I hope that Valentina will be home and healed soon.  She's lucky to have someone who cares for her so much.

This is progress Angel, thank you for the update.

No of course not, you did NOTHING wrong, this was not your fault. We all do the best we can with the information we are given. Sometimes things happen and there is nothing we can do but be a good advocate and aim for the best outcome. You are doing everything right by speaking up and keeping a sharp eye on her. If you notice other odd behavior do not hesitate to mention that to your vet.

Glad you got some sleep. Keep us posted OK?

Oh, good news!  You have been great through this whole process, just know that.

I just read somewhere recently, when you gut tells you something is wrong - don't ignore it.

I've been checking in every day to see how she's doing, I'm so glad to hear she's finally doing a bit better.  I hope that she will be able to come home soon.  Isn't it something how dogs have our whole hearts?  They are one special animal, that's for sure!

Today the vet told me that even though things were getting somewhat better he is still not happy with the way things are and that at this point this should not be this way. He has scheduled another surgery for Valentina on Friday to see what's going on in there. I am very unhappy that she has to have another surgery but I am praying that he will find the source of the problem and is able to fix it so she can heal and we can finally spend some happy times together.

I know this is not what you want to hear at this point, but it certainly is an improvement over his previous 'everything is ok' attitude when clearly it was not.  If the surgery is scheduled for Friday, it isn't critical - that is a good sign from my perspective.

Hang in there.  Everyone knows how difficult it is for you to be away from Valentina at a point where you really don't want to be separated.

Thanks for the update. We wish you and Val the best and hope this takes care of things once and for all so she can get back on the road to full recovery! Just too bad you have to wait until Friday.

All the best for the surgery today! We will be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts. Hope this solves things and she can recover quickly and get to the business of having some happy times with you.

Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.       The vets say that the drainage has gotten dramatically better over the past few days. They have been flushing the track everyday and they said it has made a big difference. There is no blood but there is still some leakage. The leakage is minor compared to what it was before. They have decided to hold off on the surgery and see if it will continue to get better on it's own. They said that I can take her home today!  big-grin   I do have to take her back on Sunday morning to have it flushed again and to make sure it is still doing ok. I have been visiting her and she is doing well. She has totally learned how to walk on three legs now and is balancing wonderfully. She seems to have all of her strength back. Her front elbow opposite the amp is bothering her I noticed. It is kind of red and swollen and she doesn't want to put her weight on it. I know it is because she has had to put all of her weight on that one elbow now since her other one is gone. And they have had her in a confined area and I don't think that she had alot of room to move around. I'm hoping that once she come home and she can stretch out on her very own twin bed that her elbow will start to feel better. Anyone had issues with this kind of thing? Is there anything I can put on her elbow to help it?  Well I am so excited to get my baby home later today! I am picking her up at 2:10. I'll keep you posted on how things go. I am so hoping that this is turning around. Valentina deserves to have this be over with!!!

When speaking of Valentina's elbow I meant to say that she didn't want to put her weight on it while lying down. She stands on it fine. It's just the weight put on it when lying down kind of grinds her elbow into the floor. She had a pad to lay on at the vet but not as much room to move around and her bed at home is way better so hopefully it will get better once she's home.
