OK - So I am getting into this conversation way late BUT...I just wanted to say how fabulous it is that Valentina is doing well!!!  Our greyhound Boo also had a very rough recovery... Amputation on Sept 8, major post-op bleeding, second surgery Sept 14....same thing, plus stitches popping open....third surgery Sept 21, this time stitches and staples, plus lots of drainage tubes!  (Oh, I will never forget that smell)!!   But I am here to say never-NEVER give up hope!  Boo's surgery and recovery was a nightmare!  But here's the joy...ready for this...that nightmare happened in 2009!  Yup - almost 2 YEARS ago!  And tonight, I had to remind Boo that digging huge holes in the back yard is a "No-NO"!  (Side note - if you need a short-cut to China, it's in our back yard by the big walnut tree)!  Every story is different, and every dog is different, but every dog is amazing!  You are a strong, loving, caring person to endure what you have for your sweet pup!  Now get some rest (in your own bed) and let each new day you share with Valentina be a reminder that miracles still happen!  Much Love, Amanda & Boo

Boo became a Tripawd Warrior Princess on Sept 8, 2009. She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge 2.7 years later on April 29, 2012. Run free Angel Boo!

Thank You so much Amanda!! That is wonderful to hear!! I am so glad that Boo is doing so well!! Sounds like Boo is a wonderful Dog!! You are so right describing the first few weeks as a nightmare!! I still can't believe that things are finally getting back to normal. Today was another great day. Valentina had a vet appt and they did an irrigation. They put antibiotics into the channel to make sure that it still keeps getting better. It is still not leaking and that "smell" is GONE!!!! She no longer has to stay confined and I no longer have to keep cleaning up the drainage and all the things that it got on. I didn't even have to put a bandage on her to take her to the vet. Today while outside she ran to greet my neighbor. She is really strong now. We are both so happy!! Thank You so much for sharing some of what you went through. Most of the stories on here are so positive I felt kind of bad telling about all the horrible stuff I went through. I didn't want anyone to be scared to have the surgery done. I do think it is important to have the good , the bad and the ugly because every story is different and everything doesn't always go the way you thought it would go. Reading all the positive outcomes on this site is one of the things that helped me make my decision. But it's not always about what happens but what you do about what happens. winker
