Mr. Mosby has the focus of the entire Tripawds nation on him right now, wishing him a tail wagging detox!

I will ask about milk thistle. I think he needs time more than anything. He slept through the night. Poop this morning was a *little* more solid so I'm hopeful there. Again, the only thing he's on is the immodium. He ate plain chicken breast last night, but we didn't have any thawed this morning, and he turned down a couple of other things, so we'll be sure to cook him up some more tonight. He will, with a little coaxing, eat peanut butter off the spoon, and that is how we've gotten the immodium down, which is good - no fighting. He seems less "out of it" this morning. Still tired, but that's understandable. He crated himself this morning, because he's such a good boy (I hadn't even asked him yet), and I couldn't even reward him with a treat, because he won't eat them! So he just got lots of praise.
On appetite, I've heard that chemo can just mess with your taste buds generally - separate from something like a nausea-induced lack of appetite. If we crinkle the treat bags in the kitchen he perks up like he's really interested, but if you bring him the actual treat, he looks disappointed, and then turns away. Hopefully he'll eat the chicken breast again, but we're going to get a few other "bland" food options to try, just to see if we can find something he likes.
I have a confession to make. I offered it to him last night heated up, in little pieces off of a toothpick. After he'd been through about half, he finished the rest in the bowl. The things we do for our pets, right? 🙂
Ha! That's your confession?? Do you think the spoon-thing was mere theory?? And I've been home-cooking for the darn dog for a few months now while I tend to eat pizza due to time-issues...! So, you know, whatever it takes is TOTALLY FINE!!!!
and if he perks up when he hears "food-sounds" : that's great! good to hear! I really really hope this is now the beginning of a proper recovery for you guys!!
big hugs from over here

Osteo and amputation in Dec 2015. Second, inoperable, primary osteosarcoma found in June 2017.
The end of our adventures came Dec 10, 2017. 2 years to the day.
Thanks for the update! Even though it's really, really, really early in the detox program, he does seem better! Yay!
Now didn't the vet say to basically hold all food for about 24 hours? Not to give him anything unless he sort of came looking for it?? I know since Mosby is generally a Chow Hound, it's very discouraging to see him eat just little bits of food here and there. But from the outside looking in, he is still eating more than most dogs who go on strike, even though it is very, very little.
Looks like Mosby likes his meals hand fed on a chicken skewer! also known as a toothpick!
Thanks again for the update! With the stool looking a little bit better and with him eating his chicken skewer, all good signs!
Lots of love

The vet didn't specify to withhold food, just not to "force the issue" and to stay with a bland diet and not stress if he didn't eat. So if he hadn't eaten the chicken we'd have just put it away (and have before). He really does seem hungry.
I am hoping for even more improvement tonight. Fingers crossed. Boy needs a break!
Ames se se! You are auch a GRRRRRREAT Mom for the Colonel 🙂 🙂
Come on Mosby!! GET HUNGRY!!!!
And I think Id read that chemo messes with the taste buds too. Other drugs do too. And I coukd ve waaaaay off vase and have made rhis up completely, but it seems like it's best to feeda d water dogs out of ceramic rather than metal, or stainless steel, when on chemo. Again, have nooo idea if that's accurate or not!!
TEAM MOSBY in full swing cheering for that sweet boy!!!

In case you can't tell, I'm pretty anxious to get home.
Dog walker/sitter reported that he's in a better mood than yesterday, but still has no appetite. Did not poop, which is fine, because it means he didn't have diarrhea.
He'll have 2 more days at home, and then I'll work from home on Friday to keep him company, plus take him to his acupuncture appointment that morning. They'll evaluate his incision, too, and hopefully if he's feeling good, back to normal, etc., he can finally do water treadmill. But I'll keep trying to take it a day at a time.
Ok...I never go back to correct my typos...woukd take forever! But where the heck "Ames se se" came from...no idea!!
No diarrhea ....knocking on wood hard over here!!!!! YAY!!!!!

Another thought- I assume that since all this started they have done blood work and urinalysis? His kidneys and liver are functioning OK? I don't want to give you anything else to worry about but lack of appetite is often a symptom of kidney or liver function issues.
It does sound like he is feeling a little better- yay!

His CBC and kidney values were perfect Thursday before chemo, so they haven't been inclined to check again so soon, but I'm sure they will if it continues too long. That's a good question. If he's really not any better tomorrow, I will probably take him in, and I assume they'd run those at that point.
Wish I had a better update. His appetite hasn't improved, and his demeanor is very downbeat. He ate the chicken breast again, and a little pasta I made (his favorite), but reluctantly, so we tried not to force the issue. Later on, he seemed distressed and started whining, so my husband and I disassembled one of his supplements and stuffed his tramadol and the anti-nausea med that is also supposed to stimulate appetite into the capsule, then deployed that capsule and the gabapentin capsule down his throat covered in peanut butter. He tolerated that pretty well. Peanut butter remains one of the few things he doesn't hate, thank god. I've been in touch with his vet. He will have to go back in again if there isn't much improvement. The pain meds seem to have settled him down, he's finally relaxed and I've been giving him back massages. He's snoozing now. Probably from the pain meds, but at least he's relaxed and not agitated. Poor thing. Wish I could press the rewind button to 6 months ago and just freeze things. Praying he'll feel better tomorrow.
Okay, his poop is better, right?
He DID eat a bit more than he has, even if he wasn't excited about it, he did eat!
Soooooo, maybe he still needs one of his pain meds and another dose of fluids to keep him steady and improving.
I know the medical field isn't all knowing. But darn it, they need to figure out what's going on with that sweet boy!!!!
When he was whining, were you avle to pinpoint at all the cause? Did he seem tense like it was his back or something. Anyway to determine if the pain was mahbe from his tummy?? I know that's pretty impossible to determine though.
It just dawned on me! How much is the dog walker walking him? Just out to potty and then back, or more?
One more thought. IF for some reason this is aa bad reaction ro chemo, ask the Vet what the protocol is for thst and treat him accordingly! And yeah, as Karen said, have them do bloodwork again.
I'm so glad he's resting comfortably now and loving his massages!! That's good!
Okay, paws crossed for a good breakfast tomorrow, better attitude and NO pain!
And YAY for peanut butter! 🙂
Love and hugs

Oh Mosby I hope your belly starts feeling better soon, poor guy. That is great your poop is better!!!
I apologize if I missed this earlier but what is the anti nausea drug you're on? Ive heard that Odansetron is supposed to be more effective than Cerenia. If you're not on that I would ask for it.
Hang in there guys, you CAN get through this!

The Ondansetron did not work this go-round (and actually caused, er, incontinence, which when combined with diarrhea is a little messy), even in combination with Cerenia and another anti-nausea. He didn't eat any chicken this morning. The little bit of poop he had was not diarrhea so that is indeed good.
The pain last night did seem to be his back, just the way he was tense and held his back, and flinched if you touched it.
"Dog walker" is an ambitious title. He's really a dog sitter. He comes to hang with him for an hour, and takes him out (the short distance) to the front yard to pee/poop twice. And gives him any meds he might need then.
I'm waiting to hear what the onco says, about whether to come in, etc. I'm having some issues between my family vet and oncologist not necessarily being on the same page with his treatment. I'm not trying to pit them against each other, I'm trying to have a unified plan for his health, but it's not necessarily working.
Anyway, I will update if there are any improvements. Thanks as always for the support, everyone.
