Jilly is just precious!!!  The love between Jilly and the kids comes shining through in the pictures!

My Leland didn't deal with cancer so I have no advice or insight into chemo, diets, and supplements.  I just wanted to echo what others have said and just live in the moment with Jilly.  She will sense your sadness and be sad with you so try to be as upbeat as possible around her.  Our furbabies tend to take on our worry when we're upset and with her body healing from amputation that stress could slow down that process.  Jilly is a strong lady and she's not ready to get anywhere just yet.  She still has so many adventures with you and the family to experience.  So just live in the moment.

Hugs

LOVE LOVE the pics! I love the nicknames too! Our girl had a million names too. It's funny how that happens. :)

As for diet, we changed to real, human food only. We found a place that sold human grade ground meat mixed with some fruits and veggies, ground bones and organ meat. We stopped buying any of the processed dog foods or treats. We also gave her fish oil capsules. The same as you can buy for yourself in a store. There are a lot of good books out there to look at. We didn't give her any other supplements. Hope that helps a little!

Johnnie also has several names.  He is the joy of the house.

Regarding diet:  we stopped kibble and he now eats a no-grain home-cooked diet.  Protein + vegetables and a very small amount of carbs, mostly sweet potato, yams and pumpkin.  Johnnie also takes:  six K-9 immunity chews a day, 4 Apocaps in the evening, and chondroitin with lunch.  We are 10-months post-op and going strong, enjoying our boy one day at a time.

hugs,

Daniela & Johnnie

Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet.   Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues.   Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle.  October 17:  started having seizures.  Taking fenobarbital for seizures.  April 18: started prednisone.

Thank you so much for the compliment and the advise! It helps to have people who have been through similar situations or who haven't but still understand the love for an animal! :)

Seriously! We adopted her with the name Jill and I don't think we've ever called her that! She was jilly willy which got shortened to willy and wee for a while too! LOL

I have actually been looking up more of a natural diet and am going to see what my local butcher offers. I'll have to ask about that ground meat concoction! I just bought all of this expensive grain free food too so I have to kind of suck it up since I didn't realize it still has cancer feeding ingredients like potatoes in it. But I want what's best for her!

That's how Jilly is! Life revolves around her! That's why I can't imagine life without her. She is seriously the perfect dog! Always has been!

Thank you for the example of the diet! I've actually got K-9 immunity plus added into my online cart and just have to put in my info but now I'll have to check out the apocaps . She's been on glucosomine with chondroitin and msm for a while now so I've got that covered! How do you figure out what amounts of what you are supposed to feed them when it comes to natural food? I'm going to go google it but figured I'd ask!

Congrats on 10months!

Hop on over to the Tripawds Nutrition blog , lots of good info there about home cooking and feeding a healthier diet to help keep cancer away. Here are some posts all about home cooking for starters. Remember, don't make any major changes right away, start slowly and always consult with your vet to be sure he is getting the right nutritients. Yea....I want to do right by her but don't want to completely change everything at once. I will definitely do my research first! :)

And one more auggestiin repeated here often. As you've already noted, you don't have to do EVERYTHING all at once.

Chunk it down for now. Pick three, maybe four supplements, or vitamins, or herbs, or combination thereof. You can always sdd more later. Even Dr. Dressler ...The Dog Cancer Survival Guidebook, acknowledges all the selections can be overwhelming and it's okay to narrow it down.

And from the Bridge, my beloved Happy Hannah always advises a scoop of ice cream every now and then! She swears it added to her longevity! Of course, this from a dog who believes M&Ms are vitamins!way-cool

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

First of all, I am so sorry to hear of Jilly's diagnosis.  I have been there, and it is tough.  My best advice is to take one day at a time.  And, to live in the moment.  The Tripawd parents here really helped me to just that, and I am forever grateful for their advice.  Having just been through this, I want to let you know that you can contact me if you need ANYTHING.  Feel free to private message me anytime.  Hang in there and remember, one day at a time.   HUGS!   Betsy

Betsy Golden and Angel, Eddy.  Eddy was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-23-14, had a left rear amputation 8-07-14, had 3 rounds of carboplatin chemotherapy,  a small lung met was discovered in October, had 2 rounds of doxorubicin, and unfortunately more lung mets were discovered.  Eddy fought cancer valiantly and went to the Rainbow Bridge 1-6-15, at the age of 7 years and 359 days, just six days short of his 8th birthday.   Best Dog, Ever....you will never be forgotten.

I'm really sorry about the diagnosis.  No one deserves that news. But, OMG, the pictures are awesome!  She is a beauty, and so integrated into the family.  She's just like one of the kids!

Wishing Jilly a speedy recovery and happy hopping on three legs.
