Sorry so late to post, but vet did not call until 6 and I needed some time to digest the info. They have absolutely no idea what is wrong with Ty. She said there was a tremendous amount of dead skin and muscle. She took as much out as she could without going into his chest. She packed it and is going to debride again tomorrow. Then he will be on a special vacuum machine until Monday, when they will HOPEFULLY close the wound and send him home. He is also anemic and will be getting a transfusion. After all this, it may not work. There are no guarantees. She got some good stuff to culture. I had to decide what I wanted to do. She did say his tail is still a waggin. I just feel I have gone this far and put him through so much, that it is not fair to just stop now. Is it fair to keep going? I do not know. What I do know is I will be paying this bill forever. If it makes him better, it will be well worth every penny. His fever went way up this morning which suggests a possible immune thing. Maybe his body is fighting cancer so much that it does not know what is good tissue and what is not. I have a lot of woulda, shoulda, coulda going on tonight. I wish I had a clear answer as to whether this is the right decision. I know I am making it from an emotional standpoint. I LOVE my Ty Guy!
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Oh gosh you don't need to apologize, really. I'm so sorry that you're both going through so much, I can't imagine how hard this is on all of you, it breaks my heart. Just whatever you do, don't beat yourself up, you are doing everything you can to make sure this gets figured out.
Did your vet happen to mention if she's consulting with any outside specialists? Just a head's up, you can have Colorado State U's Argus Institute get on board for a free (donation's welcome) consult to add another perspective and get this figured out faster, especially now that she has more lab samples and such. You may want to mention this to her.
Many, many hugs to you, I hope Ty is comfortable and resting up. Please keep us post.

Sometimes the best decisions come from the heart because they are filled with love. It does sound like one nasty infection. I really hope they can get this under control. No matter what decision you make, there will always be the woulda, shoulda, coulda and they'll tear you up. Ty will let you know when he's had enough. Hugs and prayers to you both!!

My thoughts are with you and Ty. I hope they get this figured out and he's feeling better soon.
Please don't second guess your decisions. You have been doing such an amazing job caring for and being an advocate for Ty. None of the vets have been able to give you an answer. You have made every decision out of love for him and he knows it!
Hugs,
Carol
I'm sorry, Ty is certainly due a break. Positive thoughts headed your way for the best outcome.
No regrets, you are doing your best for Ty, and you are doing it out of love.
Karen and Spirit Maggie
Tri-pug Maggie survived a 4.5 year mast cell cancer battle only to be lost to oral melanoma.
1999 to 2010
GREAT tip from Jerry!
I don't get it...they DO now what it is..it's celulitus.....they cutout the dead skin, do that antibiotics, transfusion, right? This was their plan for today...maybe not the transfusion and maybe not as extensive a procedure. but they did what they intended withnthe surgery.
I guess the vacuum thing is to pull away the infection fluid??
Please do as Jerry suggests and call argus Institue. I'm afraid if you leave it up to that Vet, they won't make time to do it.
Does the hospital Ty's in have someone who will be there all week-end?
Do they say ifnhe's eating? Actually, that would surprise me if he is Can you go visit him oris he too whacked on drugs right now?
wish I had a crystal ball for you. As long as he's comfortably sedated snd still waggin'...and yu've gone this far and apparently have answers now snd possible solutins, it would be hard to stop now. Talk about between a rock and a hard place, ugh!
You are a tremendous advocate, tht's for sure! I realy admire you.
Snding hugs snd best wishes for Ty's healing.
Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Ty is so lucky to have such a great advocate for him! I agree the Colorado State thing sounds like a good idea. Sending positive thoughts your way
Cody and Family
Cody is our 7 year old Australian Heeler mix boy. Diagnosed on 2/20/14 and became a tripawd 2/21/14! We chose a homeopathic approach and he is being treated by Dr. Loops our of NC.
I am so sorry you are still going through so much with sweet Ty......I don't honestly think I have ever seen a pup go through so many baffling problems. I truly hope he can continue to fight this, and get back to more his normal self, he is really a fighter. Ty is so very lucky to have you as his mom, too. I agree with what Jerry and the others said, Colorado St U sounds like a great idea, it certainly can't hurt.
I will continue to keep you and Ty in my thoughts and prayers.....and sending my love....
Bonnie & Angel Polly
I called them! They are going to have someone call me back. I also gave my vet's office the #. I asked the vet tech this morning to give me a swift kick in the butt if I am bordering on animal cruelty by treating this They will wait I am sure as long as they can as they are taking $ from me.I am so very sad this morning. I so want to do the right thing for him. I cannot believe he is so shiny looking and yet so sick. He is pretty anemic, that is why the transfusion. I definitely think she is leaning toward this being some sort of autoimmune thing. He is trying so hard to kick cancer's butt that he is fighting against his good tissues. I do not like the fact that she was not able to get all of the dead stuff out. That is part of what the vac pac does, along with speeding up development of healthy tissue growth. I looked it up online. Reminds me of those vacuum bags used to seal up food. They have someone in clinic 24/7 so there is always someone there. I can call @ 3 AM if I want. they are going to try and get him to eat at around 9 this evening. Apparently, they have to do a sedation to take out packing from yesterday and also to properly place the vac pac. ( I am not sure if that is actually what it is called or if I ma
de up that name). Here is a puppy pic( flash from the past!) He used to love the sleep in there. He has always hated hot weather and I suppose he was nice & cool in there. sorry for the appearance of pic. I did something wrong when scanning itTY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Ohhhh it makes me so sad to hear you feeling this way, please please please know that your heart is in the right place and you are being SO strong and advocating for Ty, you are doing everything possible, you could never be cruel. The clinic itself sounds like it has an excellent level of care, I'm glad he's being monitored.
Good for your for calling CSU. Being that it's a Friday you may not hear back from Monday but who knows, hopefully today.
That is a DARLING photo, I love it!
Lots and lots of hugs coming your way. We are all thinking of you.
