has anyone ever used or heard of anyone using tumeric, baking soda and castor oil as a "poltice" to put on a tumor?   I saw this on the internet and it says it will help shrink the tumor.... I am trying to get pictures posted so you can see what the tumor looks like.

No I haven't. Call me a skeptic, but my instinct tells me that if it really worked, we'd be hearing a lot more about it.

Use care when looking for information like this on the web, there's a lot of snake oil out there for cancer therapies.

Carol,I jadto email pictures toJerry for months because I had minus zero computer ability. Instructions are great, but not so much if you don't understand one single word of "computer la guage". But PLEASE email pictures to Jerry. She is sooooo willing to post pictures this way!. And we really want to see pictures of your sweet boy!!

I hope putting on boxer shorts helps stop the licking. And even IF the thing ruptures, it doesn't mean that you can't still have a bit more quality time.

And yes, I jave heard of the essic tea as being helpful. The link SQUIRT sent looks like it could be helpful.

Something else you may search here on the site is "cabbage poultice". One of our members used it to help heal the amputation site that had gotten infected. If I recall, Dotty (the dog it was used) really seemed to enjoy it. Part of Buddy's hurdle is keeping this "thing" from getting infected.

You are doing everything possible for your Buddy. You are a great team! Continue to stay in the present with Buddy and savor all the great moments together.

Can't wait to see more pics of Buddy!!!

Sending lots of love and hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I have not heard of that either. In the What's For Dinner, Dexter? book, tumeric is on her list of herbs to add to their home cooked food. Tumeric is one of the herbs we use when we are sick, I think it's considered an anti-inflammatory. Baking soda seems pretty abrasive to put on a sensitive area.

What is Dr. Baugh saying? I never thought about the cabbage thing. It helps with mastitis in both humans and dogs!

HUGS to you. I know this whole thing is difficult, emotionally and financially.

Also in Dr. Morgan's book "from needles to natural", she recommends Yunnan Baiyo for any tumor that may rupture or bleed. I know you can topically apply it as well. We used it internally for Jake who had an internal hemangiosarcoma. I swear it gave us an extra 3 weeks with him.

thank you so much for adding the photos for me!!!!   and thanks to everyone for their comforting comments...I need to know more about the cabbage compress....  these pictures show Buddy standing so everyone can see the point of amputation.... the other 2 are the tumor that we (he and I) are dealing with... don't be too alarmed----the greasy looking stuff is neosporin..

I do put tumeric in his food per vet instructions... In fact, I have done that for all my dogs for quite a while...the only difference is the holistic vet recommended I mix it with 1/8 tsp of black pepper.

I used Yunnan Bayoiu (spelling?) for a dog (shorty) who had hemangiosarcoma.    It really didn't prolong his life because he died in recovery following surgery.

I am at my wit's end right now... I want so much to make Buddy feel better and the tumor to look better... the vet told me that the next trip that I made to his office (this was not the holistic vet) it would be after the tumor ruptures and he will  have to be put down because nothing else can be done...I can't even phantom having to make that drive of 17 miles to the vet..

and I know no one wants to hear this, but my husband walked out on me and our 8 dogs 5 months ago and left me with the mortgage payment and all the bills.  I am retired and on a fixed income and it is soooo hard for me to find any extra money to buy things for Buddy that I would like to try for him, i.e. the essiac tea (spelling again?) I can't even afford to get a collar to put around his neck so he won't lick.   I just sit with him 24-7 to make sure he doesn't lick it.

oh, and after I learn (ha ha) how to download pictures, I will post another picture of Buddy.   He just has so much life left, his heart rate is good, he eats good, drinks and goes to the bathroom good and scampers across the yard like nothing is wrong....

Ok, that vet has officially pissed me off. There is ALWAYS something that can be done, even if it is just helping with comfort care. UGH. I'm sorry you are going through all of this. What a tough situation. You should consider giving Fetch-a-Cure a call, they may be able to help you.

my question to myself is how long do I watch him suffer in pain... there are times that he seems fine but there are nights like last night when he was restless, pacing, groaning, and yelping out in pain... the pain medicine wasn't helping at all.   he finally settled down about 2:30 am but got me up at 6:30 am.  the tumor is beginning to drain and is looking worse...I know osteosarcoma is an aggressive cancer and it has shown me how evil it is in the last 3 weeks.  I love him with all my heart but I cannot watch him suffer knowing he is in pain.  It would be selfish of me to keep him alive just for me when I know I can ease his pain- by far, the hardest decision I have to make.  I have already called the vet and talked to the office manager who is very sympathetic.  I can take him in any time today - when I get myself together to take him for his final car ride.

Oh Carol,

My heart is breaking for you. I think one of the worst emotions in the world is despair and how can we not feel despair when we wish there was just one more thing we could do to help any of our loved ones whether furry or not. I'd say you're probably in the depths of weariness as well. Unless one has gone through this disease with someone we love, no one truly understands what the word "weary" means.

It's so very obvious you've done everything in your power to ease Buddy's suffering.

It's unfortunate our fur-babies don't have long life spans. By making them part of our families we know up front that we'll more-than-likely outlive them. But yet, we still, knowingly, bring them into our hearts and homes.

I'm here to tell you what a wonderful and loving pawrent you are. I'm here to tell you Buddy's life has been so much better just because you were part of his heart. I'm here to tell you that the decisions you've made on Buddy's behalf were all the right decisions. I'm here to cry with you, smile with you and remember with you. And if you do decide to take Buddy for his last car ride today, I'll be with you on that ride; we all will.

I'm here to tell you that you are selfless not selfish and the world is a much better place with souls like you amongst us. Give Buddy a big ole smooch for me along with a heart-felt hug for you.

xoxoxo
