Good going Mouse! You look so happy using your colourful rugs. That's a great technique to assist you in sitting down.

Heal well sweet Mouse,

Wow!  He looks like he is walking vs hoping.  And I see that tail is wagging!

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

He is so happy.  For those who didnt read my 1st post to this list. My veterinarian told me I should out him to sleep.  He said if I have his leg amputated I am only adding to his misery and that he will never walk because of his size.  He was 220 pounds but is down to 190.

I couldn't be happier with his progress and I really cant wait for him to see that video just 48 hours after surgery.  And I couldnt be a prouder mamma!

He is having a lot of fluid build up all the way down to his groin.  So we made the trip to Madison again at 4am to have him looked at.  They rebandahed him so its tighter and I'd goes down further towards his rear.  They said his incision looks beautiful but if the fluid starts to collect or pool in his groin area he will need a drainage pump.

He was so upset when they took him I'm back away from us.  When they brought him back out he tried running out the door and to the truck....lol. He is such a baby when it comes to being away from us.  When we go to the park we let him go off leash and he wont go more then 15 feet ahead of us and when he is ahead of he is constantly looking back to make sure we are still close. And he always knows his way back home.  When its time to leave the park he always walks extreamly fast to get back home.  It's so nice to have a dog that you know will never run away.  It's almost as if he thinks he needs to protect us and his home.  Hes such a good boy.

Love seeing him happy again

I am so thrilled Mouse is doing so well! He sounds like Brownie. Brownie decided his job was to take care of me, and stresses so badly when I leave him that groomers and doggie day care have told me not to bring him back.

Moose is definitely an Inspiration to all giant breeds, and he is so dang handsome! I would love to see your vets face when you show him the video.

Good job Moose!  Once you get those stiches out, you will be tossing that bone again!

I sent the video to the office manager and she is going to show him tomorrow.  I'm so glad I didnt listen to him and started researching.

The surgeon wants my vet to change his bandage in Tuesday. Madison is an hour and a half from us so it's much easier if my vet does it.  It will be interesting if agrees to treat mouse as needed.

I sure hope he agrees to treat him. I almost didn't amputate Brownie's leg. He was 10 days from turning 12 and for some reason I thought the front leg was wore then the back leg. But after a few weeks hi s pain medication stopped working. He wasn't ready to go to the bridge, so I started researching and found this site. I am so happy I did! In 7 days it will be 11 months since Brownie was diagnoaed with OST. To think if I wouldn't amputated the chances are slim he would be here today.

I happy you didn't listen to your vet. I'm not saying he is a bad vet, but he provably doesn't have experience in this field. God for you for dping your research and getting another opinion!

Moose, keep making your mom smile!

Kristen I am so so proud of Mouse and YOU! What a terrific pupdate! And I love the video, thank you for sharing. Your home is adorable by the way 🙂

I'm sure your vet will change the bandage. What a great opportunity for Mouse to show him that yes, giant breed dogs CAN do well on three legs! Let us know how the visit goes.

SUCH AN IMPRESSIVE  VIDEO!!!   TRULY, IT IS!!!  And yes, to see that ail wagging is magical!!!

Mouse (I also apologize for calling you Moose) is EXACTLY why we encourage people to go for second and third opinions!!!!

I love reading  about how he always wants to be near you.  So sweet.  Sich a good boy❤

And yeah, no worries about the fluid.  It no longer has a leg to go to so it's accumulating until it can be absorbed.  It's called a seroma .  And sometimes  drains are used.  Hopefully it will reabsorb soon though.

Trust us, we are ALL so,proud of Mr Mouse!  A true Tripawd RockStar!!!

I am so angry.  My vet will not change Mouse's bandage. For 15 years I have generated between 15 and 20k a year for him in revenue by having him do all my neuters and spays for my kittens and cats and any other surgery I've needed.

I'm so angry I could just cry.

Just venting

That is just horrible! Don't vets taken some kind of Oath!

Maybe someone can help you here. Sorry, but Brownie dis not have a bandage. Maybe call the office that did the surgery and they can walk you thru it. Just a thought.

Sounds like your vet is bitter because you had the surgery. That really sucks!

WOW! smiley7smiley7smiley7

Kristen, I'm in the Tripawds Chat right now if you want to vent some more.

I'm stunned at your vet's bad attitude. It sucks, but it's a good sign that you need to move on and find a vet who is more current in their thinking and protocols. That vet needs to retire.

We can help you find one or you start by searching for an AAHA-accredited facility near you, which always our go-to resource for finding high quality vet care for pets.

Meanwhile, Nancy is right, many dogs don't come home with a bandage and he may not need it at this point. Our Jerry didn't have one either, just like Brownie, and he was a front-leg amputee as well. Call UW and find out if one of their techs can talk to you about changing it OK?

I'm so sorry you are being given this added stress that you do not need. Take a deep breath and remember that Mouse needs you to be strong and pawsitive OK? (((hugs)))

Grrrrr....what a poopiconpoopicon  way for that Vet to respond!  As Jerry said, move on and be glad his true colors have been shown to you and you and  Mouse  can move onto a better environment where you and Mouse can be treated properly.  Giving him the benefit  of the doubt...maybe he thought it would be unethical to cross over into another Surgeon's territory.  HaHa!  Just kidding! Probably  more like he didn't  like being proven wrong!!

As Nancy and Jerry said, may front leggers  don't even come home with wrapping.  You may not even need to do bandage changing.  HOWEVER, because Mouse is such a big boy and has some fluid swelling, the Surgeon may want the wrapping to stay on.

If that's the case, I'm  sure your NEW Vet will handle that for you OR the Surgeon can walk you through it and you can do it yourself OR you can maybe find a Vet Tech who will come to the house and do it for you.

We need another Mouse picture...or three!!!😀

Hugs

PS. How is his swelling in the groin area?  Same...more...less?

I'm really not surprised by this.  He puts his pride before his patients.  I had a come to jesus meeting with him a couple months ago about a diffent issue and basically put him on notice so after this I'm done.  I had interviewed and spoken to other vets back then looking for a replacement so I do have someone lined up in the event i decided to leave.

We are taking Mouse to the new clinic Wednesday evening and then I will meet the owner who is also the vet who will be doing my surgeries going forward.  I have 5 kittens I will he taking in friday to get fixed. Several of the techs that left the clinic I was at are now working there and say good things.  After I meet with the new vet I plan to go to the clinic I am leaving in person to cancel my neuters and spays I have schedules and to let Dr G know that I am leaving, thank him for the many years and wish him luck.

Mouse still has alot of fluid build up.  They told me to put a warm compress on it and try to massage and try to disperse it into other areas of his body so I will do that later.  I am going to take some photos and will post a link to view them.  Please let me know what you think.
