. My 4 yr old Chesapeake bay was diagnosed with osteo sarcoma on his front leg he had surgery to amputate on Feb 19 th apparently his back foot swelled during the operation I was so focused on the amputation I didn't realize the foot was getting so bad he was licking afoot that had surgery 2 yrs ago for a non cancerous tumor. He repo need the wound and whatever happened to it during surgery. went to get chemo and the oncologist said his paw was sloughing off and she couldn't do the chemo. went to reg vet cause the surgeon was too busy. My re vet took a culture and said it was 3 different kinds of bacteria but antibiotics can cure it. My vet is bathing it 3 times a week and meds.we have gone a week and I am sure it will be a week more. The cancer was diagnosed the beginning of February and I feel like waiting longer for chemo is a death sentence I am framing out they say dogs only live 3 to 4 months without chemo his chest was clear at surgery and his blood was clear last week I am so afraid I just can't lose him so soon I will do anything for him
Hi and welcome. Sorry for the short reply but Im on my phone. If its any comfort for now, many dogs live far longer than the statistics, including our Jerry (two years!). Sorry you're facing these struggles, more in the morning.

Let me calm your fears a say that those time frames are only best guesses. My girl went 14 months post amp without chemo. This is such a hard and stressful time. We all can relate and are here for you. Best thing to do right now is enjoy your pup, let the infection heal and go from there. Dogs are amazing creatures. They live for their humans. They don't know time frames or even that they are sick. They are always present and living for the now. All of us can learn from that. We are all sending hugs your way and are here if you need to chat. Just love on your pup for the comfort and know that the only thing you can control right now is how you spend your time with your pup. So enjoy! And reach out here often. We are all here for you!

So sorry you're having these additional challenges! Bummer for sure...HOWEVER...you are getting it addressed and getting it healed and that's moving forward!..
I can also, hopefully, ease your fears. Like many nere, my Happay Hannah was "diagnosed" as having arthritis, or a slrain, etc. For several months before the "real" diagnosis of osteo. Then, because she had a slower recovery than some, it was three (maybe closer to four) weeks before I started her on Carboplatin. Often times, checmo treatments are delayed due to surgery recovery issues for five, six weeks.or more). Yeah, there are "guidelines" of when to start chemo, but that's in a lerfect world...and there isn't a whole lot perfectly set in stone on this journey!
Continue to try and stay in the moment and enjoy every bonus day you have...and here's hoping for thousands and thousands of bonus days!
KNOW that you are doing THE best you can and he knows it too! And YAAAAAAAAAY for godd xrays and blood work!! Good news! Your dog is going to be just fine with a little delay!
It's alk pretty much a crap shoot anyway. Some dogs on nere never even do chemo and live for years!

Now grab multiple bags of chocolate and eat all at once! Take lots and lots of deep breaths and go do so ething right now that makes your pup wag his tail!!! Good! Now you know all os well in your pup's world and he isnt worried about a thing!!

Hi Zacksee, I'm back.
So, first off, breathe. It sounds like your dog is getting good care from your vet. Have they tested for MRSA though? Here is a post about MRSA, you should know this information in case the infection doesn't go away.
Now is the time to Be More Dog . Do not focus on tomorrow or all those "what ifs." Your dog is here now and wants you to treasure each moment as he does. I'm so sorry the recovery is rougher than anyone could have guessed. Stay strong, your dog needs you to believe that everything will be OK. We will be here for you to vent and cry and lean on, but in the meantime if you project a happy attitude that will make so much difference in his recovery.
