Our 7-yr old German Shepherd had her right front leg amputated a couple years from an injury.   No cancer.  She has adapted nicely, but is beginning to show discomfort from her remaining front leg having to take all the force.   She falls frequently and we are investigating a leg prosthesis, but not sure we can afford it.   Does anyone know where we can get assistance for this?   I thank you, and please be patient with me as I am new to this site and am learning the ropes...which is more difficult since I am lost past being a teenager!   Lol.

FYI: Successful prosthetics must be planned for and coordinated with your surgeon prior to the amputation. Unless there is ample residual limb remaining, there is nothing left for connecting an orthotic device. Please watch our video interviews with Orthopets for complete details and consider contacting them directly for further information if you girl is a candidate. What's her name?

Your best bet is to focus on rehabilitation exercises and conditioning to keep your dog fit and strong to prevent falls. Please consider consulting with a certified rehab vet/tech (CCRT or CCRP ), you may be eligible for reimbursement for your first visit through the Maggie Moo Fund for Tripawd Rehab.

Regarding expenses; you may find assistance in these veterinary financial aid resources found in the Tripawds Downloads blog .

Best wishes! Please keep us posted, your future forum posts will not require approval.
