So my girl lost her front leg at 6mo old and recovered great. She is turning 5 in December and her remaining front leg seems to be giving out on her or buckling when she walks. She is medium size mixed bread about 55 lbs.

Is it just arthritis setting in? The vet said arthritis would come sooner in that front leg. She is not in pain from what I can tell. What can we do to help her?

Note: I am trying to avoid a vet visit as she is scared to death by other people. Vet visits are so traumatic for her! She takes cosequin right now as a preventative.

Hi Heather, welcome. Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away.

It does sound like she is having some carpal (wrist) weakness. What is her daily activity like? She could be doing too much and I would cut back her physical activity until she is looked at. You can still keep her brain engaged with interactive brain games .

This is not unusual for a front legger but it needs to be addressed through strengthening and rehab exercises.

The good news is that the Tripawds Foundation can pay for your first rehab visit . Has she ever been seen by a therapist?

Many therapists will come to a clients house so there are workarounds for dogs who hate vet visits. If you'd like help finding one of these therapists let us know.
