I have a 10 years old hybrid wolf with cancer on her back right leg and lots of people told me to put her down, Skye my dog have also heart problems but I will go with her and our heart together to do the amputation, she looks alive, sweet, and very lucid, but because the cancer and the heart problem she don't want to walk anymore and eat little, but I give her love, care, grab her by her back and walk her around, treat with meds her heart, and hope by this week all will be done and she will be home save and happy, I know can be a possibility of some problems and she could die in the opperation table, but at least we try it hard to get her in her feet, but also can be the possibility of her get out of there without problems and live another 10 years.

I still looking for a good Doctor to do the opperation, and I don't have any idea how much will coast to to all?

I live in Fort Lauderdale Florida and would love to know what you guys thinking about all this, have fun, Skye and Rudy.smileybig-grinlaughingwinkerway-coolrasberry

HI Skye and Rudy, welcome. Please consider registering as a member so your future posts wont' require moderation.

I'm sorry to hear about the bone cancer diagnosis. Yep, lots of folks will tell you what to do but remember only you know your pup better than anyone else. Follow your heart and you can't go wrong. It sounds like you've done your research and understand the options. Good for you!

So if your current vet who diagnosed the cancer can't do the surgery have you asked for a referral? That's where I would go next.

Oh and although your pup is large, rest assured we've had dogs who are/were older and bigger and they did fine. As long as the general concensus is that your pup is a good candidate for surgery, you're in great shape to proceed. We'll do all we can to help so keep us posted OK?

Hi Skye and Rudy!

Sounds like you two have a very special bond! Whole lotta' love going on over there!

Yeah, see what the vet says...get all the blood work done and mecessary xrays and then you can feel more confident avout what's best for Skye. If the vet things he will do well that's good.

I know this is so jard...wanting to do what's best for Skye. Is he on pain meds now? Maybe he would eat a little better if his leg wasn't hurting.

There are a lot of large dogs here who jave do e very well with amputation. It is amazing ow well they adjust to thre legs. This is a major surgery and recovery is no picnic! But if Skye is a good candidate, then you jave gotten rid of his pain and given him a great opportunity to live a pain free QUALITY life full of loving and spoiling and big huge snuggles!!

Zyes, get an appointment with a specialist surgeon and oncologist...you want to jave Skye in te rightmjands!
