Over the moon Happy to read Ophelia had such a fantastic check up!!!    I know she's educating  her Vet team on jow well vig dogs can rock on three!  Of course having such a caring hooman by her side helps!

And thanks so much for taking the time to post in detail  the plan to keep her fit and pain free!

Familiar  with some, or at least some variation, not all.  They sound wonderful  though

Here's a link Jerry did a ppst on regarding CBF.  You can just double checo to see if the product you have fits the criteria.

Oh, as far as xrays.  It really is your own personal  choice as to frequency  or not at all.  It just sort of depends on what you want to do with the information if you pursue them.

For me, if I recall, Happy Hannah had a set at the third chemo treatment  (total four).  I didn't  have anymore done after that as I knew I was "comfortable " with the four Carbo and ready to just let her get on with a Vet free life.  I knew if symptons  of mets did show up I would look into non invasive possibilities  with no side effects that would keep her comfortable  and pain free as long as possible.  Absolutely  no right or wrong!!!

You know you have to post another video, right?  We cannot get enough of her sweet, beautiful, gentle, self!!  Aje's prob a little tired tonight  after showing off for the Vets, so we can wait til tomorrow.  It'll be hard, but we can do it !

Hugs

Thanks for that information.

I’m currently debating whether or not i should keep my appointment with CSU scheduled for 7/24.  I could use it as a second opinion on which treatment option to pursue, ie, traditional 4-5 course chemo vs ELIAS, but it also risks confusing me as to my decision that I’ve already made.  I can change course, I’m just not sure that i want to complicate things at this stage.  It kind of goes to what was said on another thread, at some point a decision has to be made and put into action.  Which is what I did pretty fairly quickly.  But i also researched a ton.  I don’t know.  What do others think?

more videos to come soon. 🙂

Yes, I feel like those xrays will be a time of huge stress for me too.  Honor also weighs 122 lbs (unfortunately, he got weighed at the holistic vet this morning and he’s gained 2 lbs over the last couple weeks).  I think it’s the reduced activity.

Refresh my memory.  Is she going to CSU for her second chemo after sepsis, bad reaction, etc?  Or is thos just a consult  to check out different t options beyond the four (or five)chemo

Something  that long time member Pug Maggie suggests is to write down why you make certain decisions at the beginning.  Sort of list where you draw the line in the sand and why.  Obvi5 we can always "move thr line".

So maybe revisit all the reasons you  jmade decisions  ou have up to this point.  They may still be just as valid to you now as they were then....or not.  And if you do move the line in the sand, write down all the reasons you would do that now.

As time goes on and if you start the second guessing and playong the wudda-- shudda game (like we wll do ), you'll have all the valid reasons why you did what you did.

Those reasons for those decisions made since then and they will continue to make sense now.  And if they no longer make sense, then you can take that old line in the sand and move it.

Anyway, after all my rambling, just going for a consult doesn't  mean you have to change any decisions.   And write down the reason you went....what were you trying to accomplish?  And one thing for sure, you have already made THE best decision  for beautiful Ophelia.....you have given her a pain free quality life so she can continue  to be Ophelia.

It’s just a consultation at CSU.  I made the appointment when i still hadn’t decided anything for sure.

So far, she’s had the amputation, and one chemo treatment.  Her next chemo is next Wednesday (7/19).  Then she will begin the ELIAS vaccine about two weeks after that.

So under the current plan, she will only have two chemo treatments total.  Then immunotherapy.

i could still change course and just finish four chemo treatments, but then she couldn’t do the vaccine.

Following through with the consult at CSU would either confirm that my decision is a good one, ie, they tell me that they like ELIAS, or it could confuse me, ie, they tell me that they don’t like ELIAS.

I doubt the latter would happen and that they will tell me that ELIAS is promising. That would confirm my course of action. But then i have to ask why i am spending the $300 for the consult?  Just in case they tell me that ELIAS is not good?  Then what do i do?  Change course i suppose.  But I’d have competing points of view.

I think it's always good to have a second opinion when a decision on treatment has not been made. But it sounds like you already have a plan in place, and it's working for you. So why change it? Her team sounds really good and I love the recommendations from her therapist. And YAY for the weight loss, that's probably a big reason why her mobility is better too.

Yeah, agree with Jerry.  Sounds to me like you have a good plan  in place with sound reasoning  behind it.

Had to chuckle a little bit.....

they will tell me that ELIAS is promising.

And then.....

they tell me that ELIAS is not good?  Then what do i do

That sounds so much how the mind works for so many  of us on this crazy  journey !

You'll know in your  gut what to do. I sincerely  believe that.  You are very tuned into what's best for Ophelia.

Thank you both for weighing in. It is how my mind has been working for the past few weeks since she was diagnosed.  Because there isn’t any RIGHT answer for any of it. I am sure that that is hard on a lot of people.  It is with me for sure. No matter what decision i make, i might end up second guessing myself.

I took Ophelia for her first walk in the neighborhood today. Just a fraction of what our normal walk is.  Need to build up the stamina.  She did fall going up the stairs on my patio but she was a champ and got up right back up.  Here are some videos of her working hard for me.

She is moving along faster than my guy is right now with all 4 legs.  I love that last video.  You can see how much she adores you!

Re your decision, I’m probably not a good one to comment because I would be having the same struggle as you are.  I don’t think CSU can probably add much at this point and I doubt they will give you any kind of conclusive answer as far as far as the ELIAS vaccine goes.   What does her oncologist think?  Seems like they have given good guidance so far.  Is this the appt you booked at CSU back when she was first diagnosed?  All I can say is you definitely made the right call there not waiting for it!  I know it feels strange canceling an appt it was such a long wait to get….like you might be be turning down some valuable information they might tell you.  Realistically, as someone else said, we are all badly wanting answers to questions that no one has a conclusive answer to. 🙁

Yeah, this is the appointment that i booked when she was first diagnosed.  Originally it was July 10 but i was able to move it up by a couple of weeks.  Then a slot opened up for her to have her amputation just a couple of days prior to her appointment with CSU.  So i had to reschedule for the 24th.  If that makes any sense. I moved it up on the calendar and then back again.

Today ELIAS responded to me in regards to my question about the most recent study results.  They can’t release them until they are approved but they were able to say that the efficacy of the vaccine was on par with chemotherapy.  That sounds like the new study was NOT as positive as the first, pilot, study.  When i asked if my interpretation is correct, they said that they could not provide any additional information.

Now I’m really doubting my decision.  Frustrated and a bit discouraged.

Geez, all these various  "new options" sure do add another layer to the roller coast ride this joirney takes us on.  You certainly have earnwd the right to feel discouraged  and frustrated.

FWIW I'm glad you were able to gain at least a little bit of nsight  into the results of the study.  While it seems like it's a wrench in your plans right now, if I've read everything  right, you still have a back up plan.

i could still change course and just finish four chemo treatments, but then she couldn’t do the vaccine.

You can move  forward with the total of four chemos knowing now that would be just ss effective  as the vaccine.

Not sure that's any consolation  right now. Of course  even with chemo there are no guarantees  one way or another.  One thing about Carboplatin  you can stop of there are any bad side effects (rare, put does happen) and no harm is done

Of course, as usual Ophelia is blissfully unaware of all the turmoil we hoomans fo through  in trying to make the best decisions  on their behalf.  They just know every decision  we make will be out of love and they are fine with that.

Now go fizz upnthat smoochablr mug and tell her what a good girl she is.💖  Bet her tail wags.  She's happy and that's why we do what we do.

Hugs

Wow that's pretty cool that Elias got back to you. I'm sorry you didn't get the answers you were looking for. That s kind of the nature of any new therapy, there just aren't any guarantees either way.

What is your heart telling you about which way to go?

I may have missed something, but the ELIAS vaccine can’t be done alongside the full regimen of chemo?
