Today Arktik tried to dig (he likes to bury stuff) ...it was so cool to really see him getting back to his old habits:) Last night he also played with his toys for the first time since the surgery. It makes my heart melt to see him back more and more to his normal self
Yay! Back to the New Normal.

Hi Patricia! I took this photo of Griffin last night and thought of you and Arktik. That spot where he is lying is a favorite - as close as he can get to me when I'm on the couch unless he hops up here too. Last night was the first time he laid in that spot in that position since surgery. As you can tell, he is lying on his right (incision) side and his body is half on hardwood/half on rug. He has rested there in the last few weeks - curled up or rotated around - but not in that position where is is stretched out on the incision side. Today is 4 weeks since his surgery and last night was the first time he rested in that favorite position/spot. Give Arktik time - he'll figure it out! Stacy
Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com
Thanks Stacy for the shot! Griffin does look really comfy 🙂 Arktik does lie down on that side too once in a while but he still panics when he wants to get up. But you are right maybe with some time it will be ok!
In the meantime, another first for Arktik. He was able to give his paw today!! I has never learnt to stand on his hind legs so he does not really try to hold it, but he really give the paw well.
More signs of returning to normal routines! Yay for Artik!!😎 And a few days he ago returned to digging! The comeback of sparkle continues!!
Now, you know we have to have a picture of the paw shake, rignt? We're waiting......

Wow Arktik, you are really impressing us with the paw shake! Looks like Griffin is teaching you well. And yeah, how about some photos of your new trick?!
I hope you have a lovely couple of days and enjoy getting back to your favorite things.

Another great day for Arktik! We have had really nice weather (finally!) here, and Arktik really enjoyed playing outside. I still cover his skin with a shirt because it is so pale and I'm worried he will get a sunburn, but hopefully his fur will be back soon. (He has been growing it in patches ..kind of weird 😉
My mom and niece stopped by today (we are still social distancing here but it was nice to see some family members and we took all precautions:), they played with Arktik quite a bit. He was so happy to play his favorite game: run after the rocks in the pond. I was happy to show my family how well Arktik was doing (especially my mom who did not fully comprehend the whole amputation thing but loves Arktik to death).
We also played ball and Arktik finished his days chewing on a gigantic bone we bought for him prior to the surgery and for which he had not shown any interest since the surgery. Ohh and he is also practicing his digging technique more, and getting better at it. Unfortunately I did not have my phone with me for this.
Here's a video of our games in the pond!
I had the best time reading this update and visualizing all the special things he was doing! Artik is definitely being Artik! AMD that why we do what we do around here!
I know this visit did a lot of good for your Mom too! Seeing Artik so Happy jad to make her so happy too!
Loved seeing that video. It was such a treasured day and I'm so glad you were able to capture it and share it with us. Thank you!

He is overjoyed to be outside! Look at him having a ball, wonderful!
I'm so glad he could show your family that losing a leg is not losing a life. He is a fantastic example of how dogs just get on with things and do what they love most. Great video
Can't wait to see the paw shake!

Hi Patricia! The pond video is amazing! I actually had to stop and think about which leg was amputated because Arktik is moving so well and smoothly! I'm so glad that he is doing well and that you have family to support you (from a distance! LOL) and him. I can't wait for more videos! ~ Stacy

Hi Patricia, I just got caught up on Arktik's recovery. He is doing amazing!! I do love all of the videos...Arktik is so cute! I'm super happy that he is daily becoming more himself. That's great. I can't wait until Jake wants to play with his toys again. I think it'll be soon. Every day I see a lot of improvement. Watching your post updates puts a smile on my face
