Hello everyone, today my husband took our girl in for surgery and I'm just sitting here with a lot of mixed emotions, I pray that everything will go smooth and that she will have an amazing recovery, she is a very big girl and it will take a lot of adjustment at first but we will do our best and never give up, please keep us in your prayers, thank you.

Hope all goes well!  Just be ready to see your hound post-amp.  It can be a shock.... remember they can sense if you are upset so be calm and remember that once the fur grows back and they learn the 'tree-legged-hop' it'll still be your dog.

Yes, It’s going to be a long day.  My dog, Bouncer, had his right forelimb removed a week ago yesterday.  I remember driving him down (by myself, one hour drive) and the drive back.  It was a “long” trip and my mind was everywhere.  It was an even longer afternoon and night.

See thread: http://tripawds.....2/#p111394

I and my wife were kind of “numb” that day and night after dropping him off.  The surgery was the next morning at 9:00a.m. and we were on “pins and needles” for a few hours.  The Vet called back about noon and said the surgery went very well Bouncer was doing good.  That gave us some relief but it was still arduous.

The next day the Vet called and said he was doing so well that we could pick him up that evening.

Needless to say we were excited, as I am sure you will be also.  We returned that evening and I stayed up with him all night (until about 6:00a.m.) watching television with him laying beside my sofa.

Yes, he did “stumble” a few times trying to walk around but he quickly got over it.  Bouncer was able to walk outside into the front yard (with a little assistance from me) the next day.  So when she does “stumble” don’t get discouraged!  She will, like Bouncer, adapt very quickly over the next few days.  I was amazed at how well Bouncer did (and is currently doing).  Yesterday he even “sneaked” upstairs (16 steps) where my wife was and before she could yell at me to come get him he simply walked back downstairs and looked at me (I just shook my head and smiled).

Bouncer is doing better each day;  the surgical wound is healing well and he is moving around quite a bit.  He did not urinate or defecate for a few days but finally did (on the carpet of all places) so don’t get discouraged if you experience this delay.

I’m sure the procedure will go well (according to the surgeon it is a fairly straight forward procedure).  We will keep your girl and yourselves in our prayers.  Please update us on her progress.

Stay calm (if that’s possible) and keep the faith!  You too will be amazed.

Good luck - hang in there... Every little thing is gonna be alright - sorry. That's my go-to song for good vibes.

The veterans here are great for advice while she's recovering too. I was in chat all the time for the first few weeks.

Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog

I'm happy to hear that Bouncer is doing better each day, what a blessing!! Faith is the thing that must always remain in such cases for only God is in control.  I'll keep you guys in my prayers too, thank you.

I feel you, yesterday was my girls amputation day.  I just brought her home in fact and she is resting comfortably. I also experienced mixed emotions yesterday and found a little bit of relief after hearing from the vet that the surgery went well. I felt even better when I got to pick her up and she was hoping along waging her tail and obviously happy to see me. I know recovery will be hard but all we can do is take it one day at a time. Wishing you the best and a quick recovery.

Thinking of you and your beautiful girl-keeping you in our thoughts.

Joan and Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
