What would we have done without this discussion forum and web site?!

Our 11-year-old Rottie had his leg amputated on July 14, 2011, due to bone cancer.  Fortunately there was no sign of the cancer in his lungs according to a recent x-ray.  Only time will tell...

The decision to have this surgery, especially in an 11-year-old dog nearly tore us to pieces.  Luckily, we found this website.  Nearly all of our questions were answered by the blogs and discussion forums, and although the decision still wasn't easy, it but our minds somewhat at ease and we decided to for Georie to have the amputation.  The first three days were absolute HELL!!  Georgie had a "reaction" to  his fentanyl patch and was almost literally climbing the walls.  It was scary and horrible.  Once the fentanyl was out of his system we had him on gabapentin and Tramadol.  He was not himself at all for about a week and a half.  We really were not sure we made the right decision.  But, many blogs and discussion forums on this site told us that would happen.  Two weeks and 4 days after surgery he is nearly back to himself!!  I can't believe it!!

We decided not to pursue chemotherapy, so we do not know how much time we will have with our sweet Georgie, but we plan on making the most of what we have.  We have camping trips, visits to his "Granny's" house all planned.  And he is getting a car ride nearly every day!

Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you for creating such a wonderful, informative web site.  This has truly helped us through an extremely difficult decision.  We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!!

aw-shucks Paw shucks, thanks. It's comments like this that make all our efforts to keep this community online worthwhile. That's why we have the Tripawds Testimonials topic where many members have shared theirs too.
