My Mom & Dad came to get me at 2:00pm today. They had to meet with Dr. Hamilton first so she could tell them how to help me when I get home. After that was over Debbie came to the back to get me. With a little help from a couple of people and a towel under my belly I was able to hop out to meet Mom and Dad my tail was wagging of course cuz I knew I was going home. My Dad was really happy to see me my Mom was crying a little bit but I know it was just because the lady in the waiting room was so shocked to see me. My Mom assured her though that I was ok!
Dr. Hamilton, Debbie and my Dad helped me out to the car but I think I could have made it on my own..I was a bit slow going down the stairs but made it just fine. There was a nice soft blanket waiting for me in the back of the Blazer and my Mom sat with until we got home. When we pulled into the driveway I got up all by myself cuz I was so excited to be home. My Dad helped my out of the car and I hopped around the front yard on my own so I could do my business. Once that was over I was a little tired so had to rest a bit before I came inside but once in I made it to my bed on my own. I got some pretty good treats for being such a good girl then I had my pain pill and had a good sleep for awhile. When I woke up I had to go outside again and made it out all on my own!! Had a little rest again before I could make it back to my bed. My Mom and Dad are sure proud of me! Pretty good way to bring in 2010 I would say!

There really is no place like home....everything is better there! Thanks for reporting your good news. Are you eating, Tehya? I was always hungry even at my worst I would never turn down a good meal........my vet says I am food motivated.

Take a lot of naps and you will heal faster. Be a good girl and don't lick your stitches, even though they might drive you crazy! Smile and wag at your Mommy so she won't cry. And get well real fast, soon you will be out running like me!

Love & licks, Paris and my Mom Ginny

Grateful for every moment we had with Paris…..no regrets!

Honoring her life by opening our hearts & home to Addy!

HOORAY!!!  Now the fun begins when you get to re-learn how to do everything.  Isn't it exciting?!?!?  I'm sure your pawrents will be overjoyed when you do the littlest of things (I about had a party when Jack got on the couch for the first time), so be sure to keep their lives full of little surprises by taking your sweet time and showing them what you can do little by little.  You are a pawesome dog!

Great work Tehya!!!  Thank goodness you got the potty thing over and done with early.  My dog Koda (front left amputee since 9th July 09) also did but I know a lot of doggy owners have waited and waited and waited for this to happen causing a little bit more stress to the whole situation, and even celebrating this event when it did finally happen, but it seems you are well on your way.  Be careful you don't exhaust yourself by over doing it.  You will need to use most of your energy for healing.  Can I ask what pain medication your vet has put you on during your recovery???  Koda was only on an NSAID and he seemed to recovery from surgery went quite well.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and glad your parents found this site to share your story on.

January 2nd, 2010 First off I would like to thank Opie for the suggestion of not counting the days. We are taking one day at a time and keeping all paws crossed that the recovery continues to go smoothly.

I didn’t have my Mom post yesterday as I was pretty tired and stayed on my bed for most of the day. I did surprise everyone though in the morning I need to go outside pretty badly and hopped along the basement to the door that I’m used to going through. I did forget however that there were two steps that I had to get up to get to the yard. That proved to be quite easy for me getting down though was another story my Dad kindly helped me backwith the towel under my belly. After that I had another long sleep then one of my best friends came for a visit. Oh boy did I get lots and lots of loving from her and treats too! She helped me outside to do my business again before she left and it brought back memories of her doing this with me when I first came home from the breeders 10 yrs ago.

I had a really good sleep last night until about 3:00am then I thought I would surprise my Mom who was in the other room so in I went tail a wagging and woke her up saying look at me Mom! I got my pat and decided it was time to go back to bed for awhile.
My Mom and Dad continue to be amazed at how well I am doing but they forget I think that I was struggling with the pain in that leg for quite awhile so am used to doing most of the work with three!

Talk to you all tomorrow and thanks so much for all the good wishes!

Hi Storm & Koda, Tehya's pain medication is Percocet and Gabapentin. We are off to the Oncologist on Tuesday to see about beginning chemo so we will see what they give us from there!

Thanks for the good wishes,

Darlene & Tehya,

Great update.  We are very happy that things sound like they are going so very well.  Also, very glad that you are going to see the oncologist so soon.  It is always a good idea to know what your options are.  I was told that my first treatment occurred just hours after the amputation – as soon as my body warmed back to normal.  Dr Rankin says that getting on top of the treatments so quickly is relatively new just like they are now doing chemotherapy before mastectomies for breast cancer.  I really did not have trouble with the chemotherapy, no nausea, no vomiting, and no drop in my blood count.  However, the chemical taste that was in my mouth after a treatment just ruined my appetite.  Dad had to stuff nearly every morsel of food during the treatments, but he says that I was not too bad.  He just had to get it past my tongue and I would not spit it back up.  Dad says that this is where his detailed journal helped alot.  He recorded every thing that he could get me to eat during the many meals (every two hours) and then by the end of the day when he totaled the intake, it did not look too bad.  Also, I enjoyed my truck rides so much that I forgot about how bad the biscuits and jerky tasted and gave him a treat by eating what he offered.  Just yell if this problem developes and you need help.

Also, I like the idea that you are linking up with Timber and supporting each other.  Nova, Max, Trouble, Tika and I all had our amputations over a four week period.  We kept track of each other and provided support.  It was nice to have a little Ampuversary group like that.  Glad to see that you realize that you can contribute.

Keep up the good reviews,

Spirit Cherry

Hi everyone I had a quiet day yesterday. I had some visitors come over to see me in the evening and they were pleasantly surprised that I was doing so good. My appetite was a little bit off but I think maybe because there wasn’t as many treats as usual. My Mom and Dad have been sleeping on the sofa bed downstairs as I can’t make it up all the stairs yet to my usual bedroom and they don’t want me to be lonely. Well to make a long story short I forgot that I didn’t have my four legs anymore and tried to climb up on the bed with them. I made it half way but then got stuck ( I’m blaming the Percocet). My Dad came to rescue me and up I got. Of course then there was no room for him so he had to go upstairs to the big bed. I basically took over the whole bed and my poor Mom didn’t have much room and didn’t get much sleep. I don’t normally get to sleep on the bed so it was a nice treat for me!!

I don't know how to post pictures on the forum so if you are interested please check out my blog. Thanks so much for all of the support it is really helping my Mom and Dad.

Since you have a blog where you can upload the pictures, embedding them in your forums posts is easy. Here are instructions for adding pictures to forum posts. And here are instructions for adding web links to forum posts – like to Tehya's blog, for example.
