OMG She ate her dinner!!!! I gave her an appetite stimulant around noon and she actually ate her chicken stew tonight! Without me having to beg and spoon feed her! Today may not have been a great day but im soooo pleased that shes eating!

Okay, first of all, YAAAAAY FOR ROANE WOODING DOWN HER EINNER!!! That realky is a reason to celebrate! REALLY!!!

But you know what else it means?  Roane didnt pay any attention whatsoever to xrays snd didnt  hear one aingle word that Vet said!  Nope, could care less!!  All Roane knows is she's all pf rhe sudden getting ice cream and junk food!

Okay, deep breaths.  This is not what anyone wants to hear.  And, quite frankly, I, for one, was not expecting  this at all.  And one if the main reasons  is because  Roane has been doing so well and not showing  any outward signs (and that's  good).  I know a cough was a "sign", but so many times a cough is just a cough.  Also, my Happy Hanna never even developed a cough.

IT IS NOT THE END OF THE ROAD! NOT BY A LONG SHOT!! Just ask Jerry!  Jerry did do Metronomics  amd some dogs do Palladia.   Uou xan alao ask about Piroxicam OR Prednisone (you cannot do both at the same time without a washout period.  Although  some Vets say no washout rime nedded.).

Again, not what you want to hear, but Roane is reminding  you she is feeling fine and is enjoying  being a pain frre Roane!   Now, more than ever Be More Dog !!!  You already know how to do that.  Roane is not letting anything Interfere  with flowing effortlessly from one blissful monent ro rhe next.qith a daily dose of ice cream!

And it's important to remind yourself again that Roane still does NOT have a timeframe stamped anywhere on her pretty butt!!.  And in doggy years, six months is over three years!  Twelve months is seven years!!

Continue to make every day the best day ever....and we want lots of pictures of these great moments too!!

Cheesevurgers, steak and ice cram for breakfast tomorrow!!

Hugs....extra hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

PS.  Ask the Vet about cough medicine.   It doesn't  sound like she's  coughing a lot, but cough medicine  is often prescribed and very helpful.

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

You hit the nail on the head Sally. In the back of my mind i kind of knew it was mets but at the same time it was a shock because shes doing so well! But as you said no time stamp! As long as shes happy we try to Be More Dog and be happy with her. Being done with work and having roane and mama time just became a top priority.

I ordered some homeo pet last week and that seems to be helping alot with the coughing. Shes okay most days but i feel like this up and down weather isnt helping. Rainy days mean she gets to stay inside in her nice comfy bed and have junk and belly rubs so the damp doesnt make her cough.

I will definitely ask our vet about cough meds, prednisone and piroxicam. Thank you for the suggestion. I think the vet i got today hit the wall trying to deliver the bad nnews. After the fact i was kind of shocked that she didnt suggest anything for the cough just meloxicam for inflamation!

Bev, I'm just catching up and am really sorry to hear the news. The mets discovery is like getting punched in the gut all over gain. Dang cancer mets GRRRR smiley7

Yes, Roane is still Roane and the same hoppy girl as always. She just wants you to be happy and yeah if you can spend that quality time with her, DO IT. You won't regret it.

Meanwhile, there are things you can do to tame those pesky mets. We have an entire Forum topic dedicated to different things we've looked into for both metronomics and mets:

https://tripawd.....xperience/

Also, CSU is doing a study for dogs with osteosarcoma lung mets:

https://tripawd.....etastasis/

Not sure if that's an option for you but maybe there's a nearby onco vet who is open to doing a similar therapy?

For now, give that girl extra smooches from us. She's an inspawaration to us all!

Hi Bev,

I'm really sorry. I only delt with lung mets, and that was 15 years ago. But by the time we knew something was wrong it was too late. So its good you were on top of It!  Daisy actually developed her cancer in the lungs.

I think it's great you are staying home with Roane. Actually, I did the same thing. I left my job after 8 years, and found a job working from home. Now if I am just going to the store the pack freaks out. Where are you going?

Brownie and I will say a prayer for Roane.

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

Thank you nancy and renee for the support and the links. i dont know what i would do without you all! Prob be a huge mess!  😉 ok so im a mess now too but you get what i mean.

Roane is doing ok this morning. We had to take her off the carprophen for a couple of days before we can start meloxicam. I feel like a huge jerk this morning, shes laying in her bed looking sad 😥 daddys home keeping her company so thats something. I wish it didnt need that cooling off period but i suppose in the long run its worth it.

Big hug to you all❤

You are so welcome, anytime. We were at a total loss when we got the mets news, and remember it like it was yesterday.

You are NOT a jerk my friend, you are doing your best and Roane knows that. Love her up and focus on all the goodness in her daily life right now. She will feel it and send it right back to ya.

So taking Roane off the carprophen was officially a horrible idea! I understand that the vet was worried about stomach upset as we transition meds but! By the time i got home from work she was absolutly miserable, Coughing and in pain. 24 hrs in and i threw my hands up and said whats worse an upset stomach or not being able to stand up and take 3 steps because your in pain!

We started the new meds last night. By bedtime she was more relaxed and only coughed a couple of times last night. This morning was much better,  not 100% but shes close! Potty this morning was not even close to what i would term stomach upset. 🤞 that today is a better day. Thank goodness my husband is working from home this week. ❤ he moved his office to the livingroom floor yesterday!

Oh good!  Glad to see you're  already seeing improvement!  And your logic of why putting her back on her new meds is, in my opinion, spot on!  Good job!

Picture time!

this afternoon i figured we would try some outside time. She seems more alert with something to keep her mind ocupied. Yes, you would think the way she's dressed we're in alaska lol. Its 45 in NH this morning and Roane hates to be cold! Apparently no one told her that her breed is from the mountains of Turkeysmiley2

Lastnight was a bit restless for Roane. maybe its the new meds and maybe i'm reading into it to much. I woke up a couple of times and found her laying next to the sofa watching me sleep.sp_hearticon2This mornings tuna and rice breakfast was a bust but she was okay having an english muffin with cream cheese. (I'll take anything at this point!.) Thank goodness her coughing seems to be minimal today too, although her breathing is still a little fast for me.

Big Hugs and happy weekend sp_hearticon2

Okay, not only is this a CUTENESS ALERT, it is a massive SWEETNESS ALERT, followed by THIS IS WHAT CONTENTMENT LOOKS LIKE ALERT!😁   OMD!  The sweetest,  most gentle, most content look evvvver! 😎

It may take another day for two for the meloxicam to catch up.  She's  probably staying awake to watch over YOU because  YOU are restless and not sleeping well!! Does she nap during the day?

Is she just on Meloxicam?  I know at some point Happy Hannah's  Vet gave her Prednisone to reduce any inflammation met may be causing.  Also, every now and then I gave her a reduced Tramdol or Gabapentin jist ro help settle her.  Jist throwing this out there so you know there atpre lots of things that can be used to conti to keep beautiful  Roane happy and comfortable.

I know it's  hard, but try not to focus on her breathing.  Geez,  at first I drove myself nuts watching  Happy Hannah breathing, counting breaths, etc. I quickly snapped out of it and realized it made no difference whatsoever.   Her demeanor  was all that mattered.  Generally  mets are NOT painful.  Sure, maybe slowing down and maybe tiring easily,  but that is  not painful!

And heck yeah, being outside gives her lots of opportunities  to use her senses,  enjoy nature and be in the look out for squirrels!  Upbeat and pawsitive  energy from you adds to her well being too!

Tuna and rice (ugh) or bagel with cream choice (yum)? Yeah, Roane  knows she' can hold out for the good stuff!

Okay Roane, get ready to have the camera has your BFF, because  we want more pictures of your glorious self!! And btw, you look stunning on your lovely pink vlankie snd pretty green jacket.

Hugs

thank you sally,  she is a major cutie in her coat! ❤ but im kind of impartial lol.

She does seem more relaxed today so im leaning toward the meloxicam needing a minute to balance out. Shes also on 300 mg of gabapentin twice a day. If nothing else its helping her rest during the day. Keeping an eye on mom at night is tired work! I have to admit ive been sleeping down stairs  on the couch since june.  Not what i would call quality sleep especially with nurse moe! Hes a serious gremlin when it comes to any kind of blanket lol. Im usually the one awake and watching her sleep 😉

I managed to get half a hot dog and some cheese into her for lunch so that was a plus!

There will def be more pictures to come!
