I can't help but notice when I look at Brownie's avatar picture he looks so chubby compared to now. LoL...how did I let that happen? Does the camera add 10 lbs to pets like people?

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

Well he's either dreaming he's a rabbit or a tap dancer! Whichever it is he looks to be having a wonderful time!

Sweet dreams handsome boy ❤

Six months ago today was one of the worse days of my life! On February 9th I took Brownie to the vet for a limp. They did an xray and suspected bone cancer. The vet said with amputation only Brownie will have 3 months of quality life.

Now six months later it is one of the happiest days of my life! With amputation, diet, supplements and a lot of love Brownie has made the 6th month mark from time of being diagnosed. He has slowed down some due to his age, and lost some of his hearing, but is still happy and loving as ever!

Keep fighting Brownie!

I want to thank this community for your support! I can't help but think with out amputation, Brownie may not be here today...

Now, I know Mr, Brownie  is watching his waistline, but maybe he could have just one tiny scoop of ice cream and a smallmslice of cake to celebrate!!🍨🍦🍮

Hugs and smooches!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Ok Sally.  I am going to the grocery store today so I will pick up some low fat, sugar free ice cream and some ingredients to make a pup cake.  Thank you for the idea, and shame on me for not thinking of it!

Well...my babies age is catching up with him. At first I thought he was being stubbrand and ignoring me. When I would call him, he would not come. When I yelled out "it's cookie time" and he did not come I realized he has lost his hearing. It happened so quickly. I trained him years ago his commands with words and hand signs. He is responding to the hand signals. My babie is old and I don't like it!

Actually we are getting old together. Lol

Ohhh Brownie, you sweet ol' boy.

Good for you for training him with hand signals! Most dogs will lose hearing when they grow old and this is sooo handy. You're such a great pawrent!

I wrote about the Importance of Training Your Dog with Hand Signals after meeting a blogger who worked with deaf dogs:

https://tripawd.....ring-loss/

Yep, we're all growing older every day, that's for sure.

It does seem like it almost happens overnightsometimes.  They seemingly go from just getting more and more "hard of hearing" to stone cold deaf!.   My Nellie was on the same path as Brownie, and them BAM! Scared the heck out of me when I called her to wake her up, calling her name ,oydrr and louder......did not budge!

Yeah, we hate to see the way old age does things to our dogs.  And yet  the "silver lining" is we get to see them reach old age!😎

Brownie is soooo lucky to have uou as his hooman❤  We love that boy a whole lot😊 I do believe we are due for a picture...hint!

I learned hand signals when my quad-Pug Tani was going deaf around 10 years old.  I have taught them to Obie and Elly as well although Obie doesn't see that well smiley3.

The funniest thing is trying to get their attention to give them the hand signals, especially when they are asleep.  I didn't like waking Tani up by touching her- she would really be startled and I was thinking she would have a heart attack!  So I went to stomping on the floor so the vibrations would wake her... I had quite the 'wake the dog' jig going on smiley4

I know what you mean Karen. And now Brownie really sleeps hard! I was on my computer and Brownie was on the floor.  I decided to go to the store and was gone for about 30 minutes.  When i got back he hadnt even budged. Didnt even know i left. In the past i could not even tip toe out of the house. He would catch me every time.

OMD- this reminds me of one of my worst pet parenting moments!

I had a 2 part gate that I put up in my kitchen when I left so the dogs had access only to the kitchen, mud room and the dog door, Obie was having some marking issues.  One evening I had ordered some take out food and needed to pick it up (before all the delivery services were around) and Tani was sound asleep in her bed.  I tried a couple times to wake her but no luck.  I decided to just run pick up dinner assuming she would still be asleep when I got back, and I left the gate open.  I was gone for only 15 minutes and when I got back I couldn't find her anywhere! I looked outside and everywhere in the house.  I finally found her in my bathroom sitting by the shower and looking at the shower door.  She must have looked everywhere for me and decided I was in the shower because she couldn't see in.  I felt sooooo bad!!!

From that point on I closed the gate every time I left and the dogs knew I was going out when the gate was closed.  I figured that even if Tani was asleep when I left she would see the gate up and know I was gone.
